Interesting article on the front page of si.com.  Talking about the slow economy and its effects on DIII sports.....talks about Sul Ross.

Nice find kickhoe, hopefully it won't mean any bigs cuts for Sul Ross. Also was it just me or did the story seem to end rather quickly, do you have to pay for the whole story?

Or another note, I heard that Concordia is going to add football some time in the future once they have settled at their new location. Any body know anything about it?

Pat Coleman

That's been the word going around for a few years, yeah.

I haven't heard anything in my circles.  Concordia officially moves onto their new campus next month.

Interesting that they compare the incredibly well-endowed UAA schools with poor ol' Sul Ross.  If travel costs are a concern for the UAA, you know it's gotta be killing Sully.  I hope they don't have to drop any sports due to spiraling expenses.

The UAA's far from alone in doing the travel partner thing.

Oz--

I'm not a ETBU fan, but am glad to see you guys playing each other.  I only wish you could have worked out a home-and-home...

Thanks for the response - if any ETBU fans show up, make sure to direct them over to the MIAC to say hello.

Yeah, shame about the home-and-home match-up.

Congrats to the ASC guys on the D3 Preseason All American team!

How is the number 8 leading rusher in D3 last year, who was a back up behind the number 3 leading rusher, not a preseason all American????...can any one say Quincy Daniels?

Pat Coleman

That's fairly simple: We had four underclassmen on our All-American team last year and four spots to fill. Our No. 4 back last year ran for 2,000 yards in 11 games. Daniels wasn't going to jump him. If we'd had five spots, though ...

That makes sense.  However, you are still about 74 pre-season all-American RB's shy of Don Hanson.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Josh Bowerman

Jeez, that didn't take long.   :(

Ok but don't act surprised if Quincy leads the nation in rushing this year, with over 8 yards per carry AGAIN...

Pat Coleman

Then I suspect in the postseason, he would likely be named an All-American.

I think, however, unless they split the carries down the middle with someone else nearly as talented, he will have a hard time matching last year's per-carry average. I doubt UMHB could let him carry just 15 times a game next season without a lot of help behind him.
