Rashon Lewis is now on his 4th college team, 3rd DIII. He has great speed and tremendous athleticism but he's better as a WR/HB...the issue is he refuses to move. His career completion percentage is something like 45% and he has more INT's than TD's throwing the ball. He's selfish and is a team cancer. MSJ learned the hard way. At a MSJ practice, he showed up wearing a Mike Vick jersey instead of his normal practice jersey and threw a hissy fit when he was asked to take it off. Maybe UMHB can change him and maybe he has changed, but considering his past, it will be an interesting year. Good luck to you and I hope his stop there goes better than his other 3.

First Post, but Josh you are off base here. If this happened in an Olympic sport you would not care. I do not see where this bothers you. A young man is trying to find his way. Maybe for Roshan it takes four schools.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's because he is a "horse's patute," as you so eloquently stated.  That, to me, is an entirely different issue than transferring to improve your academic situation.  Or even transferring to improve your athletic situation, for that matter.

I really do no see him getting away with the behavior issues with Coach Fredenburg.  I think he has too much at stake to let a cancer infest his program. Maybe there is a one strike policy.

The Cru has their first scrimmage of the year tomorrow. How do the other teams look so far? Just a couple weeks away....
Go Cru  :D

How exactly is Rashon a "cancer" to a locker room.

Dam it (is this Trent?)--

The Olympics sold out a long time ago when federations started allowing professional athletes to compete.  Thankfully, they've stopped touting the event as an amateur athletics competition.

The fact that DIII athletes don't receive anything in return for their participation, save for a hefty bill for what is supposed to be a decent education, is the thing that sets our brand of football apart from everything else.  It's a purist thing, just like college football should be played on Saturday afternoons and natural grass.  And this type of transferring is far from pure, or what, IMO, the spirit of DIII is all about.

With regard to transfers between Abilene schools--if you'll look back in the posts, you'll see that, while I acknowledge it has happened and has benefitted HSU from time to time (as it has McMurry, too), I don't find the practice particularly palatable.  Again, it goes against the spirit of DIII, and I wish it would stop.

DI transfers to DIII schools typically happen because the kids can't really perform at the level they need to perform at to stay at that level.  DI scholarships are renewed on an annual basis, not once for four years.  So if a coach decides a certain player isn't in the plans any more, they cut them loose.  Dispicable practice, IMO, but it's the reason so many DI transfers end up at DIII schools.  In my experience, these kids tend to stay at the DIII school they transfer into--they don't continue shopping around for a better deal.

And with regard to Big Ed Randle....where the hell did that come from and what does he have to do with anything?  Age isn't the issue, here.

I don't think he was using the term olympic sports as a synonym for amateur but as a synonym for 'non-revenue sports.'

Good morning all!

How about a little medical news to inspire you today!

That is an amazing new device, the $20,000 price tag seems tiny compared to feeling of getting to walk again.

If there are any East Texas Baptist fans making the trip to Collegeville on September 6 for the Johnnie game, you would be more than welcome to come to the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party that we host before the game. It is located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. We usually start the party around 9:00 a.m. with the grills fired up at 10:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight from Texas to share if you like.

Hello all.....cant wait for the season to start...and this year I actually don't have any work conflicts with any of the games.... ;D Seems like Rashon is a huge subject.....Never met the guy...or seen him play. Hope he does well at UMHB.....one thing I can gaurantee. His attitude will not get him anywhere with Coach Fredenburg. A few years ago UMHB had a slight cancer problem in the locker room....ole DNP was his name. And that is exactly what he didn't do at UMHB was Did Not Player. Sittin on the bench is what he'll do if he pulls any of the anticts stated in this thread. Coach Fredenburg has no problem doing what is best for his team and his program. Rather it be sit on guy on the bench....or make a big time transfer play on JV. See you guys at the games......

He's not a team player. When something goes wrong he points the finger at everyone else and can't handle it when people point back. Not only does he point the finger, he lets his mouth run loose. He expects, due to his athleticism, to get special treatment and be allowed to do whatever he pleases, even though he isn't that good of a QB. When you call him out on the fact he threw 4 INT's and lost a fumble, he acts like you're making stuff up. He can't take criticism. He has gifts, but being a teammate isn't one of them.

Yessir...if you sit him on the bench, he's still a distraction because he'll feel like he didn't do anything to merit his not playing.

If Pat Coleman says he'll drop UMHB if they start Rashon...you know it has to be a bad situation...then again, he could have found the light and could be a whole new person.

Mississippi College's Jake Allen caught two passes for 33 yards tonight for Green Bay including a 22 yard touchdown with no time remaining to pull the Packers within two points. The two point conversion was not successful and the Tennesse Titans won 23-21.

The Temple Daily Telegram has an article about the UMHB scrimmage today.  Here's an interesting quote:

Athletic senior Rashon Lewis, who had transferred from McMurry and was playing for his fourth school, no longer is with the program after a falling out on Wednesday.

"Rashon Lewis is not a part of this team and did not want to be a part of this team," Fredenburg said.

I guess we don't have to worry about that any longer.
