I do not know about any "Krama", but -1 karma for you. Should be more for lumping "All or most coaches . . ." as you did.
As Pat stated, "News to me." And, I might add, thank God it is not accurate.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

baddog,

Coach George was head coach at McMurry from 1991-94

His records were:

'91 -- 3-7
'92 -- 4-6
'93 -- 8-2 plus a 32-20 loss to Mexico in the Aztec Bowl
'94 -- 3-6-1

Coach Steve Keenum took over in 1995 and went 1-9 the next year.

Keenum's freshmen eventually went 8-2 in 1998.

Josh knows about this.

For the record, I'm not taking pot shots at anyone.  But it was my friend and fraternity brother that was shot, and I felt the need to set the record straight.  CruAlum90 made boisterous statements about one of his former coaches, which I refuted with historic facts--which whether he or anyone else likes it--are all unfortunately true.

Coach George may very well have changed his ways, which I really do hope is the case.  He certainly is no less deserving of another chance in the coaching world than anyone else that has ever screwed up.  DIII football is as much about building character and achieving academic goals as it is winning games on Saturday afternoons, and coaches have many, many opportunities to influence the young men that suit up for their school--for good or for bad.  I genuinely do hope that he's influencing current UMHB players for the best.  Learning life skills is a lot more important than football at the end of the day.

At the time he was with McMurry, Coach George seemed to not understand this, though.  He was given multiple opportunities to change his recruiting and mentorship practices, and did not do so--which ultimately led to both the unfortunate shooting incident and administrative action Ralph referenced earlier.  Thankfully, my fraternity brother made a full recovery and the young men that committed the crime(s) were held accountable by the legal system for their actions.

I'm done discussing this, as it's old history and really shouldn't have been brought up.  I probably let my feelings get the better of me earlier, which I shouldn't have done.  My apologies to the group out there.   I'll hope that everyone else will let it lie in the past, too, from here on out.

Josh Bowerman,

I feel that since you had such a personal and negative experience regarding certain former Mcm Head Coach, you have the right to express your opinion here. I would say that those who don't have such close experiences regarding their i=opinions should refrain; generally. So I support your statements regarding Coach George. That said, it appears he has gotten another chance to impact lives at the College level.

Bowerman, you are obviously putting a judgement on a man because of the actions of another.  Just because someone coaches a player does not mean they condone their actions off the feild.  I played college ball, i was 18, 19, 20 years old, and i'm pretty sure that every decision I made while I was a player at UMHB wasn't in line with what the coaches saw as right and they wouldn't have supported some of them had they known.  To pass judgement on a coach because a player goes off and does something stupid outside of the realm of football is ridiculous.  Coaches are there to mentor, to teach, to guide, but they can't make decisions for people and they can't be there all the time.  I think it's absolutely ridiculous for you to ridicule a man that in the decade i've known him, has shown nothing but love, support, kindness, and positive motivation for his players.  Ask anyone who's ever known the man, and they will tell you there is not a bad bone in his body.  I wrote my opening remark to joke around, to give this post a little humor and you come back with something like this.  Hey Josh, one day you'll have kids, if you don't have them already, and my bet is that when they get into thier teens they'll do some things you don't approve of, things that'll make you say to yourself "i didn't teach my kids to act that way, i brought them up better than that" and when that happens, think about your remarks about Joe George.  Besides, if you where half the man he is you never would have brought that up.  You officially SUCK!

Well expressed in your last post, Josh.  Obviously there was anguish there.  Apology received and accepted - a gentlemanly gesture on your part.  Thanks.

Moving on ...

I'm sure Ike is foremost on the minds of our Texas neighbors.  Besides the schedule changes, will any teams be changing locales, or will they just "hunker down" till it passes over?

90: If you were half the man he is you would have never written those two sentences.

Not sure why you have resorted to a personal attack of another poster but we're officially not very fond of that around here.

Hardin-Simmons and Linfield have moved their kickoff from 6 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Abilene is not in the current projected path, but outflow rain and wind could be associated with the storm. The 2 p.m. start gives a better window to get the game in.

You're 100% correct crualum90. I've also been coached by Coach George and he is one of the best coaches not to mention people I have had the pleasure being around. I was in a bad car wreck a couple of months ago and all the UMHB coaches were there in the hospital visiting me numerous times (including Coach George)! The coaches at UMHB care about you as a person not just a football player. I've been a alumni since 2004 and I can tell you this, you are extremely lucky if you or your kids have an opportunity to be around coaches who care as much about you as the UMHB staff does! To bash one of them, I can say, you're going to hit a lot of nerves with a lot of people!!

Crualum, you have just hit on the crux of Josh's concerns.  The actions of any student(s) of the university are the concern of the head coach, and of the president and even of the Board of Trustees of the university.

What type of a program exists at a university is a major concern that fellow conference members have.

In the small towns and cities where ASC schools are located, the actions of everyone associated with the respective  schools are scrutinized.

No one in the ASC wants to worry about an element of the student body reflecting badly on the team, the school or the institution.

I will come out and say it.  The player whom we discussed on this board showing up at UMHB this season generated great surprise that he had landed in Belton and yet very little surprise when he was no longer with the team.  It is the way that responsible coaching staffs build men.

We did not have a D3football.com around to discuss this news, but nevertheless it was news about McMurry when it occurred!
