One other thing. For PF and PA, I only used points scored by the offense and points given up by the defense. I do not use defensive or special teams scores since they aren't attributable as much to a team's skill level.
Let's go 'Nados!

Never thought I would see the day when UMHB would throw for a hundred yards more than they rush, but I will take a win however we can accomplish it.

Looks like it has come down to UMHB and HSU again, can't wait to see the trash talk pour in.

In the last 5-6 years of these message boards, I cannot remember a flurry of trash-talking during HSU-UMHB week.

I do not expect any this week.

crufootball

Well maybe not trash talk but hopefully at least some lively discussion.

Josh Bowerman

Thanks for the explanation, CUAfan.  I like the stat--I hope that you'll continue calculating and posting it each week.  I'd also be interested to see the version with SOS factored in.

And for the trash talking....

....well, I hope it's a good game and that both teams play to the best of their abilities with no injuries.  I will say, though, that it IS nice to have this year's game mean something for both teams, and to have both teams coming into the game with things to prove.

It should be a fun Saturday in Belton next weekend.

We all no the reason for this.... ;) Not much trash to be talked for the last 5-6 years I would say. I hope both teams have a great week of practice. It's been beautiful weather in Belton the last couple of days. Hopefully that holds true for this week. I just hope some more HSU fans sit right in front of us at the game like in previous years....that was so much fun. LOL Go Cru!!!

P.S. How about them Cowboy's....Dallas Cowboy's. I feel a T.O. crying session building this week. Media day should be interesting.

yessir -- The last trash talking between HSU-UMHB was actually about 4 years ago. Some UMHB fans were posting about "the train's coming into the station . . .", etc. Then, HSU beat UMHB soundly in Belton. Then a few HSU fans returned the "favor" before the playoffs and UMHB returned a "favor" in their playoff game at HSU.
At least that's the way I recall.
Perhaps a combo of both sides learning a lesson and UMHB's ensuing domination are to blame for the relative demise of trash talking before that game.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

We haven't had the trash talking, but that doesn't mean that we haven't had the great anticipation of the game!  ;)

baddog

Oh, yeah -- but there is a huge difference.
And the crow pie remains (safely) uneaten!

Sounds about right....

The history of the rivalry and the intensity of the rivalry might have diminished a bit on here, but i will guarantee that the men in the locker rooms are amped up this week.  This is the week of preperation I will never forget.  6 times I got to prepare for UMHB and it was always an intense week of practice.  The record from an HSU standpoint is 5-7-0.

It seems as HSU you should be known as the "just enough guys".  This is not a knock against them but it just seems that every game they are rising just enough to beat the opponet.  However you can get the W, get it.  I am so stoked for this weekend.  I'll be making the 45 min drive down to Belton this year and I can not wait to see the Cowboys in action this year.  I may eat some crow on this and I am absolutely positive you UMHB guys are going to hammer me on this one, but I am picking HSU and a newly inspired defense by a touchdown and holds UMHB under 150 yards rushing.

Someone had to spark some conversation so I figured what the heck!!!1 ;D

Toby Taff

Minni, you are trying to get something started aren't you!  If the newly inspired defense plays as inspired as they did in the second half on Saturday, there is no way they hold UMHB under 150.  There were some big holes on the line for the MC back to go through.  If they play like they did against Linfield, maybe.  What will be interesting will be how HSU handles the bombs that UMHB will be throwing down field.  Saenz has a pretty good arm.  I look forward to seeing a good, competitive game on Saturday, but I still think the Cru comes out on top.  HSU's d consistently gives up too many points, and the Cru D is good enough to limit trips into the end zone.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Bill McCabe

Minni,  that could happen if HSU has improved their team speed on defense.  They have given up a lot of yardage so far this year.  It should be a good game.

crufootball

Awesome, only Monday and things are already flowing.

I don't see any way that a HSU defense that is allowing 186 yards rushing a game is going to stop a UMHB offense that is running for 260 yards a game from getting 150 yards.

What I am worrying about is the deep ball that UMHB has had trouble defending in the past.

i believe the game will come down to the turnover battle and who wants it more... Belton hasnt been tested all season.. Abilene on the other hand since day one has been tested.... It will be an amazing atmosphere.. GO POKES
