@d3jason

First, I want to apologize for calling the Cowboys---the Tigers. I knew but it was just a brain fart. I was in a hurry to finish (I had a Biology test to make up, grades were due and my kid had soccer practice) and there are just so many teams I want to mention........

Anyway, my email this morning let me know. Everyone was very kind. I'll send Pat an email and ask him to change it for me. My best email comment suggested I that perhaps I got them confused with LSU because the uniforms look the similar. Thankfully, no one called me an idiot because I feel like one.

Thanks everyone for the feed back, it is nice to know people are reading. Again, I apologize to Cowboy fans.

We are glad to have a South Region Reporter!

Yeah, those "unis" do bear a resemblance to LSU's.

@d3jason

Thanks Ralph.

I think we need to find out a little bit more about D-III football in Georgia next week. I have to find time to make a few calls and get the scoop on the LaGrange (Panthers... ;D).

CRU that is a question i think that can be better answered after this weekend.

Cru96,  those are interesting stats.  I'm anxious to see which defense can do the better job of containing the other offense.  The wild card in the game may be special teams.

How about "The Family Fued."  May sound too similar to the "Backyard Brawl" of Mississippi College and Millsaps, but yeah its a start. :D

I like the Family feud idea and this name came up over Pad Khan Pao and Yellow curry at lunch, "The Hardin Family Feud".  A few others came up as well, but they weren't very nice.  I was having lunch with another UMHB Alumnus.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I like the "Hardin Family Feud" as well.  A sculpture of the Cru shield (with the star in the middle) and spurs upon a Bronze Baptist Hymnal suits me fine. :D

Bill,

I too am anxious to see the play of the special teams.  It seems unnoticed in the overall flow of the game, but its importance emerges every year.  Blocked punts, field goals, and long returns for receiving teams can change momentum and win games.  Knowing that both teams practice special teams daily/weekly, I believe Coach Keeling and Coach Fred will be stressing its importance once again.  Should be a barn burner in Belton!

I am grateful for internet.  My ten year old daughter's birthday party is Saturday, delayed due to Hurricane Ike so I will be all ears for the 2 p.m. kickoff.

CRU96

Bill,

Due to our conversation yesterday I did more research concerning special teams and my findings are below:

HSU

kick retuns: # yards 15-269
punt returns: # yards 7-74
kick return avg. 17.9
Punt return avg. 10.6
Punts yards per punt 38.0
Punt net 31.3

UMHB

kick returns # yards 5-174
Punt returns# yards 8-92
kick return avg. 34.8
punt retun avg. 11.5
punts per punt 39.3
punt net 38.9

Should be a great game.
Thanks to both the UMHB/HSU websites for the statistics.

Maybe this is old news but I would like to congratulate Louisiana College on the ground breaking of their new football stadium/soccer complex.  I met Dr. Joe Aguillard at a conference this summer and LC continues to develop on grow.  Very impressive complex with a 7,000 seat stadium on campus.  As a UMHB fan I would love to see us play on campus.  I also did not realize that LC had football since 1907 and discontinued their program in 1969.  Reopening in 2000 and are now building a new football/soccer facility. Once again congratulations to Coach Dunn and the phenominal job by the folks at LC.

Just a reminder to parents, players and fans of both HSU and UMHB football that I'll be covering the game (photographically) from the sidelines this Saturday for d3football.com.

At some point (likely Sunday morning this weekend due to other family stuff I have going on) after the game, images will be up and available for viewing on the front page of the site.  The proceeds from any prints purchased go to help keep the site up, running and free, so please support d3football.com!

And, as always, please email me or send me a private message with any special requests.

Looking forward to a great game on Saturday!

$8 milllion is a lot of money for a school with a small endowment ($27M last year).  I wish them well.

Not really sure which is the correct ranking. As a cowboy fan i personally feel 21 is a bit high. In addition should HSU win this weekend would they jump to # 3?
