etbualum,

no doubt you have probably seen more ETBU games than me. I didn't mean to imply you thought you should have won either the HSU or UMHB game (both were well out of your reach EARLY). My comparison to the HSU and UMHB's of the world was merely to point out that QB isn't the only weakness ETBU is experiencing. The defense in the HSU game was very weak. The offense never clicked. You can blame the offense on the QB play and i agree it was bad but when guys don't get where they need to be your offense doesn't score. HSU has a good QB and a good defense. Last year the QB play at HSU was questionable and the defense was not good. Thats why HSU had the recorded they ended the season with. ETBU has alot of areas to improve on not just the QB. Thats all i'm saying and all i meant in my post I think Josh had the same point. If so i'm in total agreement with him.

Sounds like the Cru got it going today.  Congratulations.  Looks like a rematch could be taking shape in Belton.

I would think that Trinity's second conference loss today would throw them out of the playoff picture.  What does that mean for HSU??  I guess it is too early to know with one more week of regular season left.  Just curious what the possible playoff scenarios might befor HSU.

I think that HSU has a Pool C bid.  Where they will be sent?  I don't know.

Right now, the cynical ones are saying Belton.

Would those cynics be at the AA?  ;D

Belton here we come!!! Were bringing hell with us!  >:(

Well, when we get there, I certainly hope we're better prepared to play than we were today.

HSU did not look crisp at all today--the score is simply indicative of the difference in talent they currently have when compared to McMurry.  For all intents and purposes, it looked to me like the team just sort of thought all they had to do was show up and they'd win.

Gonna have to get that stuff worked out real quick.

The Cru looked like they were clicking on all cylinders today.  Noack started again and look very good.  The running game looked good no matter who was running the ball.  HPU's QB was running for his life most of the day, and I think the CRU DB's dropped 4 or 5 that should have been picked.  It looked like the Cru had to try to keep it to 67.

A blurb from the HPU sports site:

Howard Payne only had 100 total yards of offense to UMHB's 479. Starting HPU QB Haddock was 8 of 20 passing for 71 yards. Punter Cote Schacherl had nine punts for 381 (42.3 avg.) and a long of 70 yards.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

crufootball

It was a great day for the Cru, only saw one injury (Tommy Vadell) but I am pretty sure he will be fine.

Got to give a lot of credit to HPU's QB, he was running for his life most of the game and never quit.

A great quote in the Temple Daily Telegram from Coach Pete if you are a fan of the Cru.

"We've found a grove, and we have guys in the right positions," Fredenburg said. "I think we're peaking at the right time."

HSUcheermom

So what did UMHB find in the "grove"??!! I am guessing he meant they found a groove or hopefully you just misquoted Coach Pete.

Mississippi College 32, Sul Ross State 15 in 26 possessions
Hardin-Simmons 54, McMurry 5 in 24 possessions
Louisiana College 30, Texas Lutheran 16 in 26 possessions
Mary Hardin-Baylor 55, Howard Payne 0 in 26 possessions

And to compare to the actual results...

Mississippi College 41, Sul Ross State 10 in 23 possessions
Hardin-Simmons 45, McMurry 20 in 25 possessions
Louisiana College 29, Texas Lutheran 7 in 30 possessions
Mary Hardin-Baylor 60, Howard Payne 0 in 25 possessions

Now, before anyone says I have the UMHB/HPU score wrong, keep in mind that I'm going off of offensive points scored and defensive points allowed, and UMHB returned a fumble for a score (defensive score) that I'm not counting. I think new method is better than the old, especially since it got HPU's score right and the previous method would have never predicted a shutout.

And here are my new conference rankings:

1. Mary Hardin-Baylor, .361
2. Hardin-Simmons, .316
3. Mississippi College, .094
4. Louisiana College, .056
5. East Texas Baptist, -.008
6. Sul Ross State, -.138
7. Texas Lutheran, -.152
8. McMurry, -.247
9. Howard Payne, -.248

CUA fan, please keep this going next season...

When you do, keep track of whether your values are more representative when considering this season's games or the games' including the previous season, or even the previous two seasons or previous 20 games.

Just for clarification, you are not counting the punt return in your calculations?  there was no fumble return yesterday.

Oh yeah, that's what it was. I was going from memory on that point. My mistake. Next time I'll double-check. :P
