That is why I said "didn't work in the brackets"  i.e. they didn't make it, other teams got in and that shuffled things around.

You can stop the  :'( because I knew that.

And, I'm not really  :'(, I'm just saying that I wish the ASC didn't have to loose one of it's best two teams the first weekend.  The AA should know this and should stop it.  It's all about the Benjamins.

Anyways, I'm still looking forward to the game.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Purple Reign... That may be one of the worst posts ever added to this board... thanks for sharing cru dad. Looking forward to a good game this weekend, whatever the weather brings.

Proud papa here!!

CruAlum39 just informed me that he was asked by Pat Coleman to do the color commentary for the D3 broadcast of the UMHB/HSU game this Saturday.  He will be teaming up with Frank Rossi who will do the play-by-play.  It will be the second time he has done this as he teamed up with the regular UMHB radio broadcast a few years ago.  If you can't make the game be sure to listen in.

I read the following in the Temple newspaper.

"When rivals No. 5 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 8 Hardin-Simmons collide in a first-round game of the NCAA Division III playoffs at noon Saturday at Tiger Field, the outcome of their previous 13 meetings will be of little consequence.

What can't be ignored, however, is the fact that the Crusaders (9-1) will be facing a Cowboys defense that ranks last statistically in the 32-team playoff field.

HSU (9-1), which allowed UMHB to hold the ball for 39 minutes and rush for 358 yards during a 20-18 Crusaders victory in early October, ranks last among playoff teams against the run and in total defense.

The Cowboys are surrendering an average of 199 rushing yards and 355 total yards per game. They rank 22nd in scoring defense, giving up 18 points per game, and 28th in third-down defense - opponents convert on third down almost 40 percent of the time. "

I was surprised by HSU being 32nd in defense among the playoff teams.  That is not a good thing.  HSU's defense will have to play very well to stop the Cru.  I would think UMHB will try to control the ball with their running game and let the defense make big plays, just as they have in past games.

UMHB no doubt has a good offense but its hard to believe even statistically that HSU's D ranks 32nd in the field of picked playoff teams. I expect UMHB will try to control the ball and the clock by running... But i still think they will be facing a much different and much improved team from the one they saw Oct 4th. Go Cowboys Beat the Cru.

I just found out i will be on the road saturday due to work.. Can someone who is listening to the game PLEASE post updates on the ASC 2008 Score section of post patterns. That's the only way i can check the score from my blackberry. Does anyone know if any stations closer to houston will broadcast the game?

Bill McCabe

The stats from the first game are interesting.  UMHB had 24 1st downs to HSU's 18.  UMHB rushed for 358 yards and HSU threw for 287 yards.  UMHB actually had a chance to pull away early.  On their first 6 possessions, they could have put points on the board.  2 TDs, 2 FGs, and 2 missed FGs.

The defense that plays the best on Saturday will be the team that wins.  UMHB must put pressure on the QB and HSU has to stop the running game.

Bill McCabe

AFter HSU played UMHB, they didn't play a team that finished over .500.  Also, 4 of their games were against the bottom 4 teams in the conference.  I'm not sure that shows a much improved team.  Just my 2 cents worth.

bill,

You obviously haven't been watching the games. HSU is a MUCH IMPROVED TEAM. THEY played the same teams that UMHB did this season and they look like a solid football team. They were good enough to make the playoffs. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion though right or wrong. sounds like the 32nd ranked defense did there jobs the first go round. Looking forward to seeing the cowboys finish it this time and return the favor. HSU also missed 2 extra points, a 2 point conversion, and maybe a field goal (can't remember for sure about the field goal) that game. For me the key will be who makes fewer mistakes and who controls the ball with field position. Both teams can capitalize on mistakes (there is plenty of talent on both sides). And both teams have good explosive offenses. Should be another great game. FYI
