From this Northern eye, it looks like she has a point.

It appears to me that once again the illustrious NCAA have conflicting information they are putting out to the administrators and fans.  I tried to backtrack mom's url to its source but was unable to do so.

I am still able to get to it.  The 2008 DIVISION III  FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP HANDBOOK states:

"Band members who are in uniform and performing at the championship, will not
be charged admission to the competition. Bands, or any component thereof, are not
allowed to play after the ball has been declared ready for play by the referee. Bands
are allowed to play during timeouts and before and after the competition. Bands are
not allowed to play during the game once the ball is spotted and the umpire backs
away from the ball. Halftime activities are the responsibility of the host; however, the
visiting team may request an opportunity to participate"

To be honest, I have yet to see a DIII game where crowd noise interfered with the game.  I heard a cowbell once from the Muhlenberg side, but somebody must of told the guy to put it away.  That said, I'm not sure about having the megaphone.  Even if they aren't included, I wouldn't agree to having some bozo yelling into one.

Wesley College Football.... A Winning Tradition not to be soon forgotten!

That's what the guard told Uncle Frank about his drum and horn, though the horn frozed up ;) Personally unless it's frikken clackson(sic) whats the difference

How come when I travelled to watch Wesley take on Frostburg State. Their band played the whole time. Even while the play was running. Have they been penalized for that? Just curious.

the ncaa tends to emphasise these rules more in the playoffs.

The championships handbook applies only to the playoffs.

Some of those rules were instituted at the last Wesley home game. For reasons that had been previously talked about in the ACFC boards. The noise maker rule included

i am not sure exactly what the aa rules are for d3, but don't you think that they are a little petty. lets not make any noise, lets not have artificial noise makers, lets not give a team that has earned a right to play home any home field advantage. gee, lets remove the stands to keep fans from stomping on them to create noise.

lets sterilize the game and take all the fun out of it for players and fans

in addition, lets reduce rosters to 52 men penalizing young people who have practiced and played all year.

Well, yes, teams and conferences can institute rules as they like regarding fan behavior, but the championships handbook does not regulate regular-season games. There are things in that book about cooling-off periods and a prescribed official ball, an official roster size and such that do not apply.

The NCAA pays for 52 players.  That is the nature of the rule, and why the ASC is in the NCAA instead of the NAIA.  UMHB wasn't playing football back in its NCAA D-II or NAIA days!   :)

It must be playoff time if we are so passionate that we are arguing about bands and noise makers. Bottom line is: Wesley fans please bring whatever you can get on the plane or fit in a car and make as much noise as you want because last time I checked the game is decided on the field and not in stands.

This should be another great game between UMHB and Wesley and the winner as usual will have a good shot at going far.

I go to every UMHB home game and all I can say is:  We have a band!?! :o ;D

PA_wesleyfan

Uncle Frank is our band. ;D  And he is also our ultimate fan.. His nephew graduated 2001 I think. But he still is going to Texas ;D
But who knows what he can fly with...

roocru, good.  will you be at the game on saturday?  we will have to get together before it if you are.  if not, give me some good info on restaurants and such in the umhb area.  we will also be at the stagg this year.

Great BBQ here http://www.schoepfsbbq.com/ Wesleydad.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I was at the game, Section D, 12 Row, seat 12, and dont' recall the band playing during an actual play. I recall them being close to it, but not full on during play.  With all do respect, that is a pretty bad excuse for what was a great game!

I know that for previous post seasons, before I knew about the rule, I brought a noise maker and they wouldn't let me enter with it.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

My gosh!  It is playoff time with a great game in Belton and we're all talking about the band.  OH NO!!!   :D
