i am surprized by the relative lack of talk about this weeks game against wesley on this site.  last year there was all kinds of chirping about how umhb was going to dismantle wesley, which in the end they did.  is this a quiet confidence or a group of concerned supportors not sure of what to expect this weekend?  i hope to read some more posts from umhb people about the game.  enough of this petty arguing with the hsu people.  that game is over.  i cant wait for this game, leaving in the early a.m. to fly to austin tomorrow.  hope to see and meet as many of you at the game, i will be easy to find i will be wearing a #13 wesley jersey and you will be able to find me along with several other wesley fans in the parking lot before the game, stop by and say hi.

wesleydad,

Maybe its "guarded optimism."  This has been an odd year for the Cru.  We've gone through running backs like underwear, which I think is a great thing for the next few years, but was stressful this season.  The RB's have settled in and look good, much like the Cru of old.  The option is still the bread and butter, but the offense is more willing to throw the ball and both QB's have shown to competent passers.  However, a good pass rush may not be the most effective defensive weapon.  There is very little drop back passing that will happen.  If Wesley can't stop the run, this will be a very quick game, because UMHB will run clock.  The first HSU game started at 1 and was at the half by 2.

On the defensive side of the ball, the pass rush is very good.  Feaster was able to do good things with his feet, but having watched HSU all year I can say its just the way Feaster plays.   If the Wesley qb can evade and make plays, it will be a fun game to watch.  And of course there's Beaver.  Last year the Cru managed him well, the year before, not so much.  We'll have to just see.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Well, it's gonna be interesting to see the Wolverine defense against the option.   The Wesley defense is geared towards the option in particular.  Salisbury used it extensively with Curley at QB, and Wesley shut it down.  McSweeny will really have to be aware of the rush this time around, that's for sure.

well finally got here, 13 hours on and off planes and 4 airports later.  no matter, i am here and cant wait for saturday.  need the low down on tailgating before the game.  there are several parents here and we would like to enjoy the festivities this weekend.  roocru gave me some info and i will be in touch with him before the game.

toby taff, i agree with you, this will be a good game.  wesley does not get much pass rush so that may be to their advantage against the option.  these teams might as well be in the same conference since this is the 4th time in 4 years they have played.  the secondary really stepped up last week and layed some hits on the muhlenberg receivers.  beavers is always a threat, wish he was being used more on the offense.  it will likely come down to turnovers, which killed wesley last year.

anyone who posts on this site, stop and say hi.  i will be wearing the #13 jersey.  see you all on saturday.  taking a trip into san antonio to visit my grandmother tomorrow, who is 90.  the college president is having a reception for the team at their hotel from 6 - 8.  my hotel is almost across the street from a BJ's brewhouse so that will probably be the hang out after that.

Nah, if this was a conference matchup, it would be a first round game. ;D ;)

From the road to salem feature:

For Mary Hardin-Baylor, it was a an injury early in the season at the running back position to Quincy Daniels, who rushed for over 1500 yards last season, that started the Cru on a cycle of "going through running backs like underwear" as one message board post put it.

Well, we know people are reading. ;D

And you would have to take the bus.

wesleydad

toby and bill, good points ;D, and it would have been easier to get here if i could have driven :)  i have had several 6+ hour car rides for games and they were much better than yesterday.  i have better snacks in the car then they do on the planes. ;)

just read an excellent article from the front page by jason bowen on the rivalry, check it out if you have not already done so.

not sure about my luck with travel and the weather; fly to florida for the webber game and it rains on the friday before it, still went to epcot and the rain stopped.  got up this morning and looked outside and it rained overnight and i think the weather forecast calls for rain part of the day.  early local forecast for saturday is 20% chance of rain, front moving through today lingering rain on saturday.
