Kira & Jaxon's Dad

He is listed at 5'11" 165, doesn't sound like juicing to me.  Sounds more like faulty timing...  :)

Had 1,970 yards on 283 attempts with 24 rushing TDs his senior year though.  Also averaged 20 yards per KO and Punt return.

Finally, the Purple Raiders get some speed.  This just might put them over the top.   ;)

The day steriod king Ben Johnson broke the world record in the 100 meters, he went through the first 40 yards in 4.38 in track spikes from a block start. Better get a urine sample from that Bellevue kid

seventies,

Here is must read about 40 times from the San Diego Union Tribune: Dash Of Doubt

It pretty much backs what you stated about Ben Johnson with his 40 yard dash.  Next time you read that some kid at X High School or College ran a 4.3 just past this along to them.

Article Excerpts:

--- Ben Johnson, who is believed to have run 40 yards faster than any human in history. Johnson is best known for injecting copious amounts of steroids and winning the 100 meters at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul in 9.79 seconds, only to have his gold medal and world record stripped after failing a post-race drug test.

Timing officials have since broken down that famed race into 10-meter increments, and Johnson was so preposterously fast that he went through 50 meters in 5.52 seconds and 60 meters in 6.37 – both under the current world records at those distances. He went through 40 yards that day in 4.38 seconds.

---There are the legends about the 4.17 Deion Sanders ran in high tops when he was at Florida State, or the 4.15 by a cornerback from West Virginia, or the 4.0-something a high school kid ran down in Texas.

Hogwash, all of it.

Track coaches go to Pro Timing Days, and they see scouts starting their stopwatches with their thumb, which has a slower reaction time than the index finger. They see them crowding the finish line and anticipating – guessing, basically – when someone will cross it. They see running surfaces that weren't professionally measured or leveled. They see no starter's gun, no automatic timing device, no wind gauge.

Grizzled track coaches love to say that the "clock doesn't lie." Well, it does in football.

---Say someone clocks a hand-timed 4.35 in an NFL workout.

The accepted standard to convert a hand-timed event to its automatically timed equivalent is to round up to the nearest tenth of a second – in this case 4.4 – and add .24 seconds. Now you're at 4.64.

Most football 40s don't go on a starter's pistol but on an athlete's motion. The average reaction time among elite sprinters (from the gun to the moment they exert pressure on the starting block's electronic pads) is about .15 seconds; for a football player with little track experience it probably would be closer to .2. Add that in, and you have 4.84.

You guys think this kid might like to join a 4 x 100 relay team?  Maybe Pierre Garcon can persuade him to try  ;)  What a great addition! It appears his hands are pretty good too.

That's too funny.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

hscoach,
At 10.72 (hand timed) he isn't fast enough to run on Mount Unions 4x100. And that is a Fact!!! Mounts 4x100 team would have finished 3rd in the Big Ten last year.

bushman

I see he had 395 total yards against the polar bears!  Let's hope he continues  setting records against polar bears.

Small but Slow

Let's see how that 4.27 converts on the field.  I've seen a few 4.6 receivers run away from 4.3 DB's, as well as some 4.8 LB's run down some 4.3 backs.  Adrenaline, confidence, fear, and passion are all factors that determine the speed when the pads are on.  It seems this kid has performed pretty well on the field in high school.  Nice high school website!

It was touching to see Airtran offering to fly players' families to Atlanta for free, and residents of the area opening their homes to those who need a place to stay.  I'm always impressed by the way people in this country reach out to those in need.  Warm thoughts for the entire Bluffton community.

London Fletcher should be buying drinks tonight for everyone.  He signed today with the Redskins for $25,000,000 over five years.  I had to put all those zeros instead of "million" because being a D-III alum, it's awesome for him to be depositing paychecks with so many numbers before the decimal point.

Congrats to him.

...And when you add the income of fellow JCU alum doeder, I think you have just a shade over $25,000,000 combined from these two illiustrious former Streaks.  What a successful combination.

Our Condolences to Bluffton College , the families and students, and all those closely involved with this terrible tragedy. I know HurfMUC, if you're out there, this probably comes as a harder shock to you then some of us.  Our prayers are with you all  :(

Perhaps Rocky Pentello should be buyng drinks.  He just signed with the Marion Mayhem of the CIFL.  I am sure for a bit less than Fletcher signed for.
