I give Marietta kudos for scheduling St. John's (MN) in the opener, especially if they convinced the Johnnies to come to Ohio next year.  I'd like to think this is a bi-product of the success of the OAC in post season play, especially by teams other than Mount Union.  My only thing is who will be throwing passes for Pios this year since no QB other than Vrable completed a pass last year?

Ric

D3 spring practices consist of a maximum of 16 practices over a five week period through March and April.  They have no effect on when fall practices start, which still begin three weeks prior to the first game.  But there have been a lot of changes in the last few years on length of practices, number during a day, etc.  I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to coaches giving in on something in the fall to get something in the spring.  I would think coaches love to have this time spent with their kids on the field midway through the offseason.

Who is going to play QB is my biggest concern. I feel that Marietta has some very good returning athletes mixed in with some very good transfers and recruits. Still you gotta have a good QB to be successful. Can you imagine your first game at QB is against the Johnnies? From the very little I have seen at Spring practice there is a QB that impresses me. Vrable did an excellent job last year and the offense evolved around him. I hope this year the other position players can make it easier on the new QB and carry the load.  Go Pios! By the way, I still think you win with a good defense and an offense that doesn't make mistakes. I believe the Pios defense will be up for the challenge, unfortunately I don't know for how long.

If I remember correctly, this is a one-year deal, Marietta/St. John's.

I'd be shocked to see St. John's travel that far in the regular season. Doesn't seem to be in that program's nature.

According to the St. John's website, in 2007 St. John's is scheduled to play  Marietta in football at St. John's, and no football game between these two is scheduled in 2008 or 2009. It looks like a one shot deal - not involving travel by St. John's.

Speaking of openers of interest on Sept. 8th Baldwin-Wallace hosts Augustana.  Since that's an off week for Mount Union I will probably head to Finnie Stadium for that one.  That will be a good early season test for two teams wanting to make the playoffs in '07.

That should be a great game!

That is correct unfortunately. The St Johns/Marietta is a one and done. Tom Stock told me there is money coming from St Johns to help this happen but too expensive a proposition for a return trip to Marietta. There will a throng at that opener as always and add the OAC mystique and it might even add a few more. Their "average" attendence is over 8000 per game. Their squad is returning quite a bit and they have visions of Salem dancing in their heads.

I think Marietta is just too close to "ALLIANCE" to suit them IMHO!!! ;D

Be ready for that Kcreds. As I mentioned before let me know your plans and will set some things up. How many are coming in your party?

Rumor has it that Perci Garner, QB from Dover HS, has turned down an offer to Ohio U to attend MUC.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

raiderguy: 3-5 as it stands now. I look forward to seeing some suggestions.

Wow....Percy and the kid from LA as incoming freshman QB's next year.  I watched Percy play about six times over the last two years.  Great arm, mobility, and Dover ran a spread, no-back, hurry-up offense where the play is called at the line of scrimmage.

It will be interesting to see how he can adjust to LK's more rigid, precise way of doing things.

I was of the understanding that Garner's #1 sport was baseball...which leads me to ask the question...

Did Marietta recruit him? If so, why wouldn't he go there? It's pretty much teh same opposite situation; Mount has the best football and mediocre but arguably rising baseball (this year's not looking so hot though). Marietta has the best baseball and mediocre (by OAC standards) but rising football.

If baseball's his #1 sport I have no idea why he'd go to Mount. If football's his #1 then I understand 100%, of course.

Especially if Marietta plans to throw as much as they did last year.
