Personally I think they missed a great opportunity at Bryn Mawr.  Being an all-female institution, they should go for another owl nickname.  How about the Bryn Mawr Hooters?

They could be sponsered by the real place! It would be great! picture the uniforms...

Great name idea.  But could they properly fill out the uniform?

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Perhaps the  COW football coach would like to chime in on that train of thought.  ::)

Speaking of topics that have been beaten to death...

************************************

I think there are a couple constants we can always count on:

1.  COW/MUC isn't happening anytime soon.
2.  Yellow and brown will never look good on anybody.....EVER.
3.  Larry Kehres will be the first football coach in NCAA history to wear flip-flops if he wishes to show off his entire collection of championship rings. (props to hscoach)
4.  The academic NCAC card will always get played by someone.
5.  The "move MUC up" argument will always find its way into the mix by someone.

LK doesn't strike me as a flip flop kinda guy  ;D

Actually when I worked daily with him he was a flip flop kind of guy.

beenhit2hard

LK was often seen in sandals, flip flops etc during 2 a day weeks at meals, meetings etc

On the subject of MUC moving up to D2.....I was recently talking to a salesman who noticed my MUC Raiders window sticker on my vehicle. The talk suddenly shifted from sales to football as he was a JC grad. His thoughts were that MUC should be "forced to move up to D2, or at least be kicked out of D3".   WOW! :o

D306

Wow is right whomever it was you talked to has low goals for themselves or their team.

Kicking MUC out of DIII is like the people whom think Grand Valley State should be kicked out of DII.

MUC is a well coached team that is excelling, all dynasties come to an end.
Coachs change, staffs get better at competition, quality players step up and decide this is the year and commit themselves to being #1.
What is this idea of "parity" in everything.
Is there something wrong with being the best?

MUC is a benchmark for DIII presently, things will change. Whinners never change always want a shortcut.

Score more points, and hit the weight room is what I say. Instead of these guys complaining they should ask themselves what did they do today to beat MUC.
I know all this sounds "trite" but it is really the difference if you have some talent in your program.

OK I am done with my "soapbox" anybody else want a turn?

I am a MIAA fan / Parent / Grad. So I know what is like to want a win in the playoffs.
Nice thread on the board every school could use some "owls" like Bryn Mawr

Wow, is right (and that's putting it mildly ;)).  Unfortunately, that person just doesn't get it; actually very sad for someone from JC who should understand why that won't and shouldn't happen.

Mount Union is a benchmark for Division III football, but they've got a LONG way to go to be the Grand Valley State of Division III in terms of an overall athletic program. Grand Valley is good at practically everything and the scenario exists that someday they could win a national title in baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and football. I don't know of another school in any division that is regionally to nationally competitive in all four (LSU maybe the closest, or Texas).

Before the Mounties get their dander up, I'm saying this to side with you that it's ridiculous to suggest that Mount should be forced or volunteer to play Division II. For one, the school would lose a TON of money (both for giving out the scholarships and the admissions boon that non-scholarship football at Mount provides), for another, every other sport but football would be absolutely hung out to dry for a very long time.

OTOH, Grand Valley could probably move up to I-AA and do just fine. They're already giving out scholarships, so it's not nearly as big a change, and they've got very strong, healthy programs in all the sports that bring in any money or could ever come close to paying for themselves.

I've always said that if you win the OAC in football, basketball, baseball, women's basketball, or softball, you have a chance to win the national championship. Doesn't mean you will win it, but you're in the hunt. Not sure there's another private-school conference anywhere in any division that can say that.

So you fans of other OAC schools can bash Mount and say they don't belong here if you want, but really they're just the football version of what we have in just about every sport, a consistent title-caliber program. Did/do we say about Marietta baseball, or Dixie's girls at Capital in the 90s, or Donna Newberry's Muskingum softball program that they don't belong in the OAC or Division III? I don't remember it. But the pack has closed the gap or caught up with all of those programs since their periods of peak dominance in the conference. So it can be done.

Please, oh please, let the Div. II thing go! For those of you wishing Mount will go away...NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!! So get better players and/or coaches to compete on the national title level. Thank you!  ;D

Section13raiderfan,

Your sales rep friend from JCU must have attended the 70-0 spanking two years ago when MUC was starting all new skill position players in the second game of the season. If they were going to catch the Raiders that would have been the game. Plus it was on their field. Jorris was not the regular starter yet and Pierre was in his second game. The RB position was open I think, until Robinson took control but I might be wrong there.

So the saying goes "If you can't beat'em........kick 'em out!

Maybe the Raiders will like the friendly confines of Don Shula Stadium again this year and lay another 70-zip on 'em again. Then listen to the screaming for their removal.

In fact based on the Raider preview from Ric maybe the JCU guy wants to just give the Walnut and Bronze to the Raiders on Sept 1.....declare the 2007 season over and have everybody looking forward to 2008. ;D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I didn't even leave the state of Ohio to find a school that fits the description.  OSU is more than regionally to nationally competitive in all four sports you mentioned with two recent BCS championship games, two recent Final Fours for the men, 2 trips to regionals in the last 3 years in baseball and five consecutive trips to the NCAA's for women's bball.

I am not saying your point is not valid but I would add that the example of the JCU alum previously mentioned is the exception to the "Move Mount up" arugment IMO.  Most of the people that find their way into this thread to start slinging mud year in and year out are not OAC'ers.  My impression is that the rest of the OAC gets the picture and knows that to be the best they have to beat the best and the "best" in our case isn't just a conference powerhouse but more often than not is the best team in all of Division III.

...And in your examples you missed the most dominant Division III dynasty out there: Kenyon swimming.

Raiderguy you hit it squarely on the head. I told the poor guy that JC had played the Raiders very tough in the past and he should be proud of that. His reply : It was 72 to nuthin just a couple of years ago" Thats when he said they should kick em out of D3 or force em to play D2 at least.

section13,
Next time tell them Mount Union might think about moving up to DII when Kenyon's swimming teams move up.  In other words, when hell freezes over or Kenyon's state-of-the-art climate controlled pool.
