Quote from: JK on August 14, 2007, 11:27:26 AMThe team employs maids to come in and change the sheets (wish I would have had THAT as a college kid).

I don't know about today, but when I was at Mount we did have linen and maid service in the dorms.  The maids always seemed to arrive on mornings when I had no early classes.  Quite inconvenient. ::)

I'm expecting to see that the upper tier teams have more upper classmen and retain a higher percentage of players...

Not all the teams have posted '07 rosters yet, so can't prove that yet, but did find a couple interesting numbers.

Capoital has more sophomores on the roster than in-coming freshmen.

Heidelberg has ten seniors and three are listed as QBs.

Who will have the most freshmen report this year?

cufan

Mount will have 550 freshman from 10 states.  It is good to be the king!

10 states is a weak turnout for Mount Union but they do have the luxury of reporting the top prospects from American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Japan, Germany, Mexico and the Solomon Islands this year.

Its great to see Derrick Alexander is doing well in the preseason games in the NFL. My question is, if he can do well, why cant someone like Randall Knapp get a shot? Knapp did pretty well at MUC and in the indoor league as well. I see Knapp did not play indoor ball this year so maybe he has given up.

I can only assume you're confusing Capital All-American wideout Derick Alexander who is back for his final season with the someone else.  I don't see a Derrick Alexander on NFL.com's list of current NFL players.  Of course there was a Derrick Alexander that starred as a WR for the KC Chiefs in the late 90's.

*Holding my fingers up in the boys scout pledge* I swear I got an envelope in the "junk mail" pile that was from the Alzheimer's Support Society asking for a donation. In the envelope was a packet of seeds... Forget-me-nots! Now that is sick if you ask me!

Interesting comments about KC Chiefs at RF for training camp. Gee for your million dollars we are going to ask you to concentrate on football for a couple of weeks no luxury accomodations, room service and no elevators ? what a concept.

It was interesting, the new coach at Minnesota had his first week of training camp at St Johns in Collegeville.  Requirements ....NO TV and NO CELL PHONES.

In the land of No's that is St Johns you could add these to the list! The Gophers brought four semi's full of equipment that was not available at St Johns.....like tackling dummies and blocking sleds. It is still amazing they do not use that stuff at St Johns.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

To play devil's advocate a little...

What many people either don't realize or choose to ignore is that training camp may have become irrelevant.  Up until about 15 to 20 years ago, it was very important.  Guys would show up to training camp to get into game shape.  In this day and age, though, what's the point of travelling to some little college, working out, studying film, running drills...etc when you've been doing all those things since March in state of the art facilities?  There is barely an offseason in the modern NFL.  Players are constantly working out to keep themselves in top shape, there are "voluntary" work outs and minicamps, players have access to game film 24/7.  Why travel and "rough it" when you can stay home and use the best facilities available?  It's not 1960 anymore, why should teams practice like it is?

To make all us bitter, not-multi-million-dollar-making shmucks feel a little better that they have to sleep on a dorm mattress and listen to a window AC unit as they fall asleep to the sounds and sights of their 50 inch plasma flatscreen for a couple weeks in the preseason.  We went through the same experience, minus the 50-inch flatscreen, and I think we are better for it.

I'll remember that when I'm staring at my 19 inch Daewoo (yeah they make cars now) that was in my dorm room in college and currently sits on the dresser in my bedroom.
