We'll, I finally got a teaching job.  Been working in the buisiness world for the past 13 years or so and decided to change careers.  Will be teaching 7th grade science.  They started school this week already, but I'm taking over for a teacher going on maternity leave.  I think they have the football coaching positions filled, but I'll probably volunteer so that I can get my name out there.

Best of luck in that teaching position!  Be sure you have plenty of Advill. :D

From another 7th grade teacher, GOOD LUCK! As for the coaching part, hang with the coaches and volunteer for everything. It's hard to break in for the outside.

And now, it's finally time for Friday Nights Lights in Ohio

I think I'll head to Sam's Club and get a bottle of Excedrin Migrane.  Has caffine, asprin and acetaminaphin.

Good thing about the school is my wife is already a teacher there and has introduced me to some of the coaches.  I talked to one who is coaching F-ball for the first time and never played it.  He played baseball in college.  So, I should be able to add some value.

Marietta beat St. Vincent 28-0 in a scrimmage. Marietta basically dominated on both sides of the ball. The new QB's made some nice plays along with the wide outs. Special teams looked good except for maybe the kickoff team. They over pursued and were out of position each time. I hope the coaches see that before Sept . 1 or we will probably give up a return. I know that other Saint school we play next will be a little, okay alot tougher, but this scrimmage, I'm sure, gave our team a lot of confidence and positives to build on. I particularly liked the play calling. The one downer I had was watching Jr. playing very little on offense and no defense. He practiced in the Spring and up to this week at strong safety, a position he is very comfortable in but they switched him to TE this week due to them only having 3 and they are all freshman. He played a little TE in high school but never really had to block. He was mainly a receiver. He is trying hard to pick up the blocking techniques but not fast enough to play much today. I know I have to be patient and I am not one of those parents you all have alluded to in recent posts. I know if he earns it he will play, if not, he won't. Has anyone on here ever had to make that switch and if so do you have any advice for Jr. or myself? Goooooo Pios!

Kcreds,

I have been away from the board for several days but I saw your post. NO problem. Anything you might need while in MN just give me a call. I will send you my cell number in an email. I assume you have your directions ;D to Collegeville (so you say you are in Duluth?)and I too am looking forward to meeting you at the Stiftingfestivities before the game. Bring your appetite!

As Duffman has mentioned I am a Johnnies fan too. When I moved to MN and started attending St Johns games (always in Purple I might add) (sorry Duff Old Dog and all that.) I was approached by "The" most loyal Johnnie fan (there are countless numbers) by the name of Rich Hall. He welcomed me into the fold with his mutual respect for "The Raiders" and made me feel like I had been a friend of his for years. He proceeded to introduce me to 100's of Johnnies over the next several years and I continue to enjoy those friendships every day. We have a common love for D3 football and high regard for the accomplishments of the athletes that participate for "the love of the game" to use the well coined phrase. Sadly we lost Rich last year and I miss a very good friend.

To get to the punchline to all of this.......When Rich asked me what I was doing at a St John's game I simply told him I was 800 miles away from Alliance and The Raiders.....so if I couldn't see the #1 team in the country play on Saturdays.....I would settle for #2.  So far that is my story and I am sticking to it. It played pretty well until '03 when I still saw the #1 & #2 teams play but somehow the script for that movie got messed up. :(

How nuts is it? Last season I saw a game 15 weeks in a row from the start of Mount's run with Averett  in VA. to the completion of their run in Salem against WW in VA again. Along the way I saw St Johns play 8 times, Whitewater twice, Whitworth from WA, UW Eau Claire, UW Stout and the Raiders a total of 5 times. I will not be that lucky or nuts this year but it sure was fun for one season anyway.

Sorry for the rambling but I am sure you will feel the same about these fans after your visit on the 1st. I can't say they will be as cordial on the playing field with your "Pios" but they will respect you just the same.

See you soon.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

raiderguy, I'm getting more excited everyday. I plan on making all of Etta's games this year, fit in an Ohio State game, and a WVU game, where my daughter goes. I also found out today that my wife is given me for my birthday a trip to KC to watch the Chiefs against the Chargers. I'll fit in a few high school games, Jr.'s high school has won 57 and counting regular season games in a row, a state record that was started when Jr. started as a freshman. I think I'm going to see a lot of great football at all the levels that really count.

Went to Mount's scrimmage today...it's going to be another great year!

I think Terrance Mooring, Mount Union's fullback,is going to have a great year. He might not get a lot of post season honors for obvious reasons but he really plays his position well and can catch as well as block and run.He also seems to have grown.

purple,

I agree...T.M. is like our "secret weapon." The guy is a hard nosed player and comes through when you need him.

I was at Mount's scrimmage today also.  The Raiders looked very sharp against Washington and Jefferson.  Terrance Morring was running hard.  Justin Wray was impressive.  Most of all, Greg Micheli was extremely accurate.  He hit a receiver at 40 yards with double coverage.  As usual the defense was everywhere.  They look ready for the season to start.

Some observations from Mount scrimmage....

Offense may be best ever....so many weapons, so much speed, so much experience....What did they score 6TD's on 7  possessions?  Of course I do not know the strength of WJ..usually they are very strong in their conference..their QB looks like he could light it up down the road..

LB Diriggi is from another planet... As usual Kostelnik was everywhere....DE's looked very strong (this was a concern to some)..#92 was outstanding, so was #30 a new face, I believe...DT's were, as usual,  solid..and LB's get to ball FAST....DB's press cover everywhere and no WJ receiver got free beyond the six yard quick slants and hooks.

MUC Punter, if today was representative, is the best I have seen in 30 years at MUC...may just challenge the BW punter  whom I think is just incredible for d3....

Micheli's passing reminds me of Borchert...always accurate and on time, but has more zip than Ole #7....backup sophomore QB #10 Short from Cleve Collinwood may be the best athlete on the field, and has an amazing passing touch and presence for a soph ...he looked much better than Rocco and Harris, although Rocco had a few moments and Harris isn't bad....I think all four QB's have ability to win with what Mount puts out there...heck, I think  Mount could win with Ric at QB

I dont like new kickoff rule....

JV games may be great fun....Thomas breaks one for 70 or so and a TD on his first touch...and the JV QB will be exciting..

would like to hear what other observers thought...
thanks
