Kickerdad thanks for the post, you are a class act as well.  I'm sure there will be those that weren't there that will start talking about Mount running up the score but those that were there I'm sure all saw how that was not the case.  I'm glad you made it home safely and good luck the rest of the way.

Next year's opener vs SJF is going to be an interesting one simply because MUC will be very, VERY young.  From yesterday's depth chart, only Micheli, Kmic, Morring-FB and Reynolds-TE return on offense.  And the defense brings back only Millings-DE and Rose-DB.  If you were ever going to open against MUC, 2008 is great timing.

Kcreds - I agree Marietta has a very good chance of coming home a winner. The Pois are the best team The Johnnies will see all year and St Johns has lost a few season openers in recent years. It all depends on how successful they have been at filling spots like QB. Hey, bring home a winner. ;D

And as it turns out, they might be the worst ... :)

While they didn't have to do what LK did (truly class the way he tried to call off the dogs -- I hope folks realize all the things he tried), SJU eased up early and the two scores came in the last 3 1/2 minutes.

As far as Marietta is concerned, its understandable for fans of a team to not see what those that have no interest in the team does.  They needed a lot of improvements in a lot of areas to maintain the success one guy (for the most part) brought them a year ago.

Today's trivia question:  What's the significance of the number 553 from yesterday's MUC/Averett game?

Oh no, did I lose K just for venturing into the OAC board...  :D

Ric,
Yeah, it was interesting that whoever set the spread on the OAC pick 'em was a lot closer than the MIAC board.

Although the game -- at least over the radio and via stats -- had a Hamline-like feel, it sounds like that W. Va. transfer would have given SJU a lot more trouble if they had someone more capable of getting him the ball. He had four catches on the early going and from what I've heard showed his size and pretty good speed. After seeing another all-OAC receiver in person last december, it was surprising that McDaniel was such a non-factor.  That seems to collaborate your "one-guy" theory.

hscoach, I read Ric's excellent game summary (see link below) and couldn't find it.  It wasn't total yards or number of players Mount Union used in the game.  I give up.

kickerdad--glad you made it home safe.  It was a pleasure talking to you at the game.  Good luck to your team and your son through the rest of the season.  I noticed that a few of your guys got banged up during the game--hope none of the injuries are serious.

I thought you were going home on 64?

That was the total number of pushups performed by the beautiful...and soon to be burly.....Raider Cheerleaders.

If I were a cheerleader I would have come off the sidelines to make a few tackles and hold down the score myself! ;)

Thanks runyr for the kind comment.  Always nice to hear the work is appreciated.  Ric

Hello OAC colleagues:

In case any of you missed this last winter (admittedly I did), here is something that I think will put in perspective many things for all of us - it sure did for me.  It certainly is a reminder for myself the next time I start to whine or complain about something in my day in my life.  If you have already seen this, my apologies for bringing something to the field that has already been presented.  Go to:  http:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qTiYA1WiY8

It is similar and as good as that story on the autistic h.s. basketball player earlier this year that someone posted here on the boards for us.  Makes you think for sure; I'm not ashamed to admit that it brings a tear to my eye.  Hope you enjoy it.

reality check

The OAC goes 3-3 in week one.

There are two shutouts (you're slackin' Mount Union) out of three wins.

I don't know what's up with JCU's website (might be getting redesigned) but finding the varsity teams is a nightmare.  I hope it's just temporary because the website navigation stinks right now.  I was able to get game stats and see that the score is very indicative of the result.  JCU outgained COW 433 to 185.  Time of possession was 36:30 to 23:30.  Petruziello might be fun to watch this year at the QB position.

Anyone think that BW might be nervous seeing Augie putting up 65 points on MacMurray???  538 rushing yards for Augie on 62 attempts.  Not a single rusher eclipses 100 yards on the day.  In fact, Augie only lost 3 yards on negative rushing attempts.  I'd be nervous if I was a Jacket fan.

The Assmann era begins with a win but it looks like a whole new ballgame in Bexley.  Capital shuts down the Wittenberg offense but only manages 258 yards of total offense or to put another way: 21 yards less total offense than Rocky Pentello averaged per game passing in 2006.  Assmann appears to be a dual threat though.  Senior AA Derrick Alexander has zero catches in the opening game?!?  I guess that OSU receiver Riddick is not on the team now.  He was in the media guide but not listed on the online roster.

Both teams defenses put on a good show though.

Professor,

It was a pleasure to get a opportunity to chat with you. I haven't spoken to my son since yesterday after the game and not sure about the guys that got hurt. I don't think there was anyone hurt that can't get right before next game. But not sure.

We did go home via 77 & 64 and found it to be easier to travel and took about the same amount of time. I still hate PA Turnpike. That road should be outlawed.
