Presto

great win today by the jackets on the magic carpet! Then need to take them one week at a time and stay focused week in and week out. this may be the best bw team since the last one to make the playoffs and maybe even better than that one!  also congrats to heidelberg on getting the win!

Ric

Congrats to Mike Hallett on the win today!  I can't imagine how excited those players must be.

Also way to go B-W on the fine win over Augustana.

Ric,

did you and/or HSCoach go to the game? if so we (on the ccciw board) would appreciate your candid and usually accurate comments.  ;)

[Vrable was better than (other than obviously Brown and Weikart, who you were probably thinking of) Olivea, Couhig (etc. you get the idea the group I'm talking about, there were probably others on the defense that I'm just not recalling), Sidick? Not saying yes or no, just saying that that statement says maybe a little more than you think it does.

I was referring to Brown and Sasu.  I put them above Weikart and the rest you mentioned.

Hard to argue, though I'll try anyway. I'm bored after watching WVU walk through Marshall in the second half.

Weikart kept Brown on the bench for two years and was the featured back on the program's undisputed best team ever. He's also the only OAC Offensive Back of the Year from Marietta. He was all-OAC the same number of times as Brown and Sasu.

Sasu's career numbers are as much a function of not having to sit behind anyone than anything else IMO. Sasu did break Brown's career record, but Brown had a lot carries and games in which to set it, again because of Weikart. The teams Weikart played on had other weapons, they didn't give it to the running back 35 times a game very often.

Sasu was good, but couldn't say he's better than Brown or Weikart. And I still think the line play on those teams Brown and Weikart played on was outstanding. You don't take Mount Union to the final gun without it.

Coning and Couhig both were all-OAC more times than Brown, Weikart or Sasu.

Antonio Hutton was a really good player as well and two-time All-OAC as well.

My original point wasn't who is better than Sasu, but to say that there are more than just two players who have pretty firm claims to having better careers than Vrable, to take nothing away from him.

The 95 team was good enough to go deep into the playoffs if the system were different. Who knows what happens if that's the case. Maybe they go to the playoffs, pay back Mount Union, and win the whole thing. No one who ever saw them would seriously say they weren't good enough to. Brown was the kick returner on that team, Weikart the first-string back. That should tell you how good Weikart was.

Usee sorry we didn't make it.  My fault, we had planned on it until yesterday a friend asked for my help with something today so I had to back out.  Sorry about that.

Northern won 42-0.  Just finished.  It seems there was a long lightning delay.

For those with Sports Time Ohio, the BW/Augie game will be tape delayed tonight at 12:30.  It's Time Warner Cable 76.

Game Summary - ONU 42, Millikin 0

ONU came out a little flat - not unexpected for any team in their first game (save for MUC who comes out and scores 52 in the first quarter  :)).

Millikin was unable to capitalize on ONU's struggles early, despite the ability to move the ball a bit thorugh the air. MC had no running game whatsoever, with few backs getting to the line of scrimmage prior to contact from multiple defenders. Millikin does have a fine wide receiver who made several tough catches and absorbed some severe punishment post catch (Katzmark).

ONU's O-line had trouble early opening holes - due in part to two strong D tackes at Millikin (Bailey & Hampton). As the game went on, ONU's superior size, depth and strength wore down the Big Blue. Meadows had several solid runs and Pankratz made a number of first rate throws to Delk. In the open field, Delk appeared too quick and fast for the MC secondary.

By mid Q3, ONU was playing all second and third string players at the skill positions on offense, but left in the starting O-line until 11 minutes left in the game to get them reps.

The game was delayed almost 1 1/2 hours with about 11 minutes to go in the 4th quarter due to lightning. Give Neibuhr credit, he could have packed the buses and gone home down 42 - 0 at the time. But he held out to finish and try and score. MC got close, but WR Hampton coughed up a fumble at the goal line after catching a short pass followed by a solid hit.

In summary, ONU had far too much speed, depth and size for MC. One could tell fairly early in the game that with the heat and humidity, the Bears would wear down MC in time. The superiority of the OAC relative to a reasonably ranked team from the CCIW was clear.

One final thought - freshman QB Simmons from ONU looked very, very good. He was poised, in control and his passing was extraordinarily accurate. The 44 yard TD run by Bogner was set up by an option pitch from Simmons that could be used in a training video. He is slight (listed at 170 pounds), but appears to have quite a future. All his reps came against MC's first team defense.

Congratulations to Heidelberg, and especially the seniors on the team.  Nobody should go a whole career without tasting victory.

Congratulations Big Mike. I know Raider66 is smiling down on you and the Student Princes today.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

 Anybody got the Otterbein score?

I  went to the BW-Augie game today...left at half...it was obvious that BW defense is for real...They pretty much shut the vaunted rushing attack down..
BW offense was not that impressive...passing game looked awfully suspect...
Jackets will go as far as the D will take them....
of course, I only saw a half, but they handled Augie pretty well....
