Don't come down on Ballard! He helped start this thing of ours!

Ric - what happened to the audio highlights?

Gentlemen we must differentiate between celebrating and hotdogging. B J PAYNE was exuberant in celebrating his sacks and fumble recoveries. But was he ever "in the face of the opponent" rubbing it in? I dont remember any of that. Did he taunt his opponent? If so, how so? Does Pierre pose as Superman after a touchdown? Yup. But does he do it in anyones face? Not really. Perhaps, he is just pausing to "feel the love" of the MUC faithful at those special moments. ;) Did not Reiko Gollate have a similar celebratory ritual? No one criticized him for it. As for "trash talking".....Was Ballard guilty of too much swagger, or was it unsportsmanlike conduct? Perhaps he was just refusing to be intimidated, and let it be known. Where IS the line between cocky and confident anyways? Have we all not seen a player wave his finger NO, NO, NO after stopping a big play and gotten away with it? To me that could be celebrating OR taunting depending on whether the finger wag is directed at an opponent. How about the ol "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD" gesture? Its seen often and never draws a response from an official. Why not? That is definately stirring the pot to me! I guess the refs are the ultimate arbiters of exuberance over unsportsmanlike conduct. I wonder if there could be a consensus among their ranks as to what is black and white and what is grey? Not from what I have observed!   It must be like pornography....it depends on the viewers point of view.

As for Monty....he had more of a tacticians approach to defense, where now its more of an attack and leave em no time to think approach to defense. I love em both for what the are......but prefer the latter.

Here is my preview for the Otterbein vs. Marietta game. Both teams are off to similar starts with no wins and almost identical stats, yes hscoach and Ric, I mentioned stats. There is not an obvious favorite here so I will resort to stats and mention some underlying factors. Here are my important stats: Both teams have given up and scored about the same amount of points. They have rushed about the same but OTT has given up 65 more rushing yards. They both have about the same in passing yards but OTT has given up 234 more yards. OTT has the advantage in KO yards allowed and KOR yards. Punting averages are about the same. ETTA is -7 in turnovers with none forced and OTT is -2 with 1 forced. Time of possession and sacks are also about the same. Both teams haven't made a field goal yet. It appears that ETTA has the advantage on defense, can you believe that, and OTT has a slight advantage on special teams. Both offenses have had little success. Now the underlying factors: ETTA has had slightly tougher competition with both games on the road, they have played before a little less than 14,015 hostile fans, they are now at home, the game will be televised locally, they are calling it the River City Bowl, they upset BW in their first home game last year, and OTT stole the win last year. With all things considered, ETTA should have the advantage and win a close one. hscoach and Ric, are you impressed?

But if I had to pick one it would be MUCaw.

Somewhere between always being sure to sit underneath your jersey at the Alliance BW3 and pulling a table closer so that you are able sit underneath your national championship picture at the Hood.

HScoach

kcreds:  Much better. ;D

Toph:  That was too funny.  + for you!
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

hscoach: Thanks. I'm impressed that you even read my posts anymore.  ;D

Kcreds   The otters have a very limited running attack,  slow to react on defense and depend on their passing game way too much.  They do have a rather tall receiver that can get open.

Skunks.....your remarks regarding Monty are absurd. Please refresh my memory about these constantly occurring games that came down to who had the ball last?I remember two Allegheny games, two John Carrol games, and some playoff games but what I remember about those close games was how brilliantly Monty's boys performed in the clutch. No comparison with defenses past? You ought to read up on the Raiders before you make remarks like that.Start with the 1992 team.

The one that keeps playing over and over in my head. Mary Hardin Baylor. Total prevent defense....no rush whatsoever...everybody playing zone.....a backup QB wins the game on a hail mary, last play of the game.  AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! :o :-[  >:(

Its only constantantly occuring in my nightmares though.

Then there was Rowan in the playoffs.........

Mount's all-conference safety got hurt a few plays before that play and the problem in the game was the offense not being able to get a first down in the fourth quarter. We get one first down in the fourth quarter and we win.

bushman: You just described Etta. Each team must be a mirror of the other.

If any of the Otters are coming to the game, you are more than welcome to come to our tailgate party. We will be under the light blue canopy on the bridge side of the stadium. Let me know and I will make sure there is enough food and special blue crew brew.
