reality check

RJ Meadows and Nate Kmic enter Saturday's contest with exactly the same amount of rushing yards (439).  They're putting up 109 yards a game on the ground.  But as respectable as RJ's 5.3 yards per carry number is, Nate's downright scary 9.8 is ridiculous.  Oh yeah, not to mention Kmic's 13 rushing TD's...

I was curious, seeing as how Kmic is averaging nearly 10 YPC and was at a "meager" 7.0 YPC last season, what the OAC single-season best was and am surprised by the fact he has some work to do as 9.8 YPC would only put him at 4th on the single-season list behind ONU's Snell and Bennett and Akron's Kimbrough (1966).

But if he ended his career and walked away for good today (which as a Polar Bear I am fine with) he would end up being the career OAC leader in YPC at 6.90, besting Chuck Moore's 6.52 career rushing mark (discluding playoffs of course).  So let me be the first to say, "Nate it's in your best interest to walk away the career leader in YPC.  You've got a couple rings.  Why jeopardize things any further with some 35 carry, 190 yard performance to lower your YPC totals?!?"

RC,

Alliance and even Ada are sophisticated metropoli (not sure of my latin plural, here) compared to Delta, OH   ;D ;D

It sure is reassuring to finally read some ONU/ Mount banter.  For awhile it seemed all I was reading was what conference was the toughest which came as a surprise because, 1.) it was during the "big game" week and 2.) there will never be a unanimous decision.
I am looking forward to seeing the "purple people from Alliance".  I haven't seen the Bears play this year, but if the "purple" are as good as the people they have played say they are, it should be fun to watch.  (sorry "purple backers", but you tend to be a might biased so your votes don't count!!!!)  It may be a tough afternoon for the Bears.  For a repeat of that "fateful day" in October '05, the Bears will have to play flawlessly and come up with some key turnovers, obviously.  The'05 team had a very good "O" line, and I would be hard pressed to think this years is of that caliber. Also, I don't think ONU's receivers have the height of that team, but may be a little faster and I have to agree with an earlier post that maybe the better teams are able to contain R.J. which tests their versatility.  Defensively, it sounds like this years Bears are very capable, but the "purple" have alot of weapons.  Can the Bears pressure Mount's QB like they did against JCU?  The'05 Bears team had 2 all-americans in the secondary in Hostetler and Midlam which sure helped against the pass.  Gunter may be faster than Hos, but not as physical and Midlam's range and speed sure helped over the top allowing both corners to take a few more chances.
No matter what, it is going to be fun and if I may be so bold, if the "purple people from Alliance" do come out on top, ONU will have a chance to get revenge in the post-season!!  (I would think 9-1 would get them there!)  And one more thing, at least the "purple" faithful won't have to tailgate in a gas station parking lot, like the Bear faithful did in '05 in Alliance.

It will be great to see the first team play three quarters of football.ONU,valiant as they may be,will simply not be able to stop Mount Union from scoring. It wont be close. On the other hand,ONU fans might be seeing the best Raider team ever and should enjoy the show.

BTW It's all over, my ten year old just told me he can smell another Stagg Bowl trip coming. The nose knows  ;D ;D

ONU's defense might try to keep them in the game but Mount's defense will keep them out of it, even if the offenses were equal, which they ain't.

You guys can have fun with RJ and Nate, comparing whatever stats you want, but the bottom line is that Nate is CLEARLY the better running back. I hope that wasn't even up for discussion. I like RJ, hes a cool kid, im by no means attacking him,but at the end of the day, its Kmic, just likes its Drury (3 points tonight). The o-line doesn't hurt, I would think about calling them the big uglies, but dartt is way too cute.

On in injury front, I heard thru the grapevine that Assman might be done for the year due to a torn ACL.  Anyone closer to the program that can confirm/refute that?  Hope I heard wrong.

If that's true it's a huge blow to the Capital program in their quest to remain amongst the OAC elite.  I know they're going to be good with or without him and their defense is just plain sick, but it's going to be awfully hard to win versus with  JCU, ONU, MUC and BW with a back-up QB.

Just looked at the pre-game release and two deep for the Cap-JCU game tomorrow.  It mentions Alexander being done for the season but not Assman.  I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

From what I was told, he is out with a torn ACL.  They thought it was just a sprain, but the MRI revealed it was much worse!!  Hopefully Cap's "D" can continue to show its dominance, because Cap's "O" will be a non-factor the rest of the way.

OUCH.  That's really sucks.

Yep, that really will suck.  I know Coach Collins was as high on Assman as he has been on anyone (including Rocky).  Since the Cap turnaround, though, there is a history of backups stepping up and leading them to good seasons (Rocky's freshman season and a few years earlier when, I believe, Danny Edgehill was supposed to be the starter and Dan Bartholomew stepped in).

We all agree that Collins is a great coach.  I am sure that the backup (Wade Bartholomew, I believe) has had plenty of reps and is prepared to run the offense, but Coach will, undoubtedly, have to make some tweaks to fit the new personnel.  I think, with the Defense, that this weekend against JCU and later against BW, they still match up pretty well and should have a pretty good chance to win, but MUC and ONU... that's what is really scary now (scarier than before).

I'm still missing picks from quite a few guys.

It would be greatly appreciated if you didn't wait until the last minute to post them.

THANKS

On the subject of Capital/JCU, I'm very surprised the majority of the picks are still coming in for Capital (-6.5).  I would have expected the news of no Assman to slant the results toward JCU.  Things that make you go "hmmmmm".

Good luck to all the guys taking the field tomorrow!

For those that love to disagree with me (and I understand why), check out the Triple Take on the Daily Dose feature.  Pat was kind enough to ask for my input (he had to be desperate) on some of the games this week.  For me it was a combination of honor and confusion as to why someone would read anything I wrote... ;D
