Hey SKUNKS_SIDEKICK, enjoy your PEE WEE coaching days and take lots of pictures. Every once in a while I pop in the tapes of the days my sons played  PEE WEE ball and I still get a big kick out of it. There are about 3 to 4 kids on each tape that are now in college and playing in the BIG 10. If they make it to the pros maybe I can sell tapes to the media. ;)

Radio play by play talked about a big hit from Starks at the end of the first half.  No carries for Meadows in the second half...so wondering if he's a go for this Saturday?

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

BW always plays hard and sometimes very well against the Raiders. It would be interesting to hear from BW past players about how they prepared to play Mount Union;what the coaches said, the game, the guys you faced, etc. BW beat The Great Jim Ballard when he was a soph.and cost them the title in 1991.I wont mention the 1994 game since I haven't gotten over it.

Question on Replay in D1A.

I just turned on the USF vs. Rutgers game.  USF blocks a field goal and during the return, the USF players appear to fumble the ball forward to keep the play alive.  The on the field officials don't see it and don't throw the flag.  The replay officials then review the play and after talking to the on field official, they then throw the flag on an illegal forward pass.  This is the first time I have ever seen the replay officals initiate a penalty.  I thought it was their job to review any infractions called on the field, not to initiate penalties.

Anyone have knowledge of the rules on this for college replay?

May be moot anyway cause Grothe has the Bulls moving towards the end zone again.

HS Coach,

The scary part of the stats when it comes to the Raiders and their players is they are only playing 1/2 of games. Micheli and Nate alone would be near the top of every catagory if they were seeing full time action. Greg is still rated at the top as it is. His yardage totals and total offense stats would also be way up there. Nate would be leading the nation in scoring and yardage too, I think. No complaints though.

It is LK's feeling that it is 11 as 1 and individual stats are not important. Seems to be working OK, no reason to change.

It is rather ironic that one of the best punters in the country will not show up in the rankings because he will never have the punt totals to qualify. And the Raiders field goal kicker is averaging 11 points a game and that came down this week from 14! Yikes. ::)

The defense doesn't have any individual stat leaders as I recall. 11 as 1 strikes again. Everybody has a hand in the success of the team defense and their winning stats.  ;)

BW and Capital should be interesting.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Have not posted in a while and much has happened and been said - time to chime in. I loved the stuff on Mount's longsnapper. I hear he not only has a 4.4 40 - but benches 300 and reads to the blind at halftime. As for Mount's punter - he does have a leg and I for one am glad he does not get to use it more often. Has anyone been reading Around The Region? I know it is not Around Mount Union but still - how can not even mention Mount when talking about the Great Lakes region? Aside from the MUC/ONU showdown (I use that term VERY loosely) not even a blip on the radar! I thought for sure it would be different this week with MUC/BW (and the ATR guy being a BW grad) but it is not even a game of the week! Oh well - I'll stick to post patterns for MUC tid bits!

In closing: Easterbrook is not an idiot. That would be too insulting to idiots! He needs his own category.

Go Raiders!

DesertRaider,

You're right, it's been hard to get a lot of information about the Raiders so far this year.  I seem to recall, though, that in years past the reason Mount hasn't gotten a lot of coverage during the regular season is that the ATN and even the ATR folks know that Mount will be playing in the post-season and will have plenty of opportunities to talk about them at that time.  But, as someone from far away from there, it's frustrating to only be able to read the Post Pattern stuff sometimes.

We did write about Mount Union in ATR a couple weeks ago, though. We had a lengthy piece about Larry Kehres in Kickoff.

Pat,

Yes, you're correct.  I didn't mean to imply that we never see Mount Union related information prior to the post-season.  But with the high likelihood that they'll be in the post-season, any of the "human interest" sorts of things and even the statistical breakdowns typically don't happen until later in the season.  Hey, it's a great problem to have!  Maybe someday we'll see a story along the lines of "Headlines you might have seen if Mount Union had made the postseason!"

Now that I think about it, Mount Union probably ends up getting more coverage than most of the DIII programs on here...there's what, 119 programs?  Outside of the breakdown in Kickoff, it must be awfully difficult to mention each team regularly and basically impossible to have a story or even just a few paragraphs about each team.  Since Mount is so consistently playing deeply into the postseason, they're guaranteed more coverage than many teams (as all post-season teams should enjoy).  Even at the point when Mount's run begins to come to an end, they'll still be getting coverage because they're NOT making the post-season.  "Mount Union Misses Playoffs For First Time In 105 Years"

It's not a blame-issue for me.  I would always love to see more coverage of my favorite team.

Eh, I need more classes to teach on a Friday.

There are actually 238 programs in Division III. So yeah, there's a lot to go around. And Mount Union hasn't failed to reach December in a long time.

I knew my number was probably off, but I didn't think by that much!  238 makes it even tougher!!!  119?  Is that D-I or something?  eh, I'll go look it up myself.

Mt. is what it is.  Let coverage  happen for others as they are deserving.   Some of these teams I did not know existed.
