And to prove that I am not completely against Mount Union, I think their game with Capital SHOULD be featured on the front, because it's actually a game that could be closer than 28 points, maybe.
I wish you were picking the spread this week on OAC Pick'em board.  hscoach has it at +37.5 Capital.   :-\

I guess CAP COULD blow it against OTT AGAIN!    >:(

At this point they will go one of two ways.......either suck it up and play a "p'ed off", intense game against Mount, or just lay down and die.  Knowing Collins, it will probably be the former, not the latter.

As far as the crowd noise/participation at Mount home games....this has been discussed over the years ad nauseum.  The average age of fans on the home/covered side is about 72.56 years old.  They only have so many more cheers, standing up and down, etc...left in their bodies.  They are saving themselves for the play-offs.   ;D

As for everyone else.......OF COURSE complacency has set in.  Big crowd for the B-W game........rival.......28-0 Mount at the half.  Students/fans are thinking.........yawn......another "big game" that isn't.  When you accomplish all the things that Mount has over the LK era...it's just human nature to expect it.  I didn't say it was right.....but that's the perception the casual fan is going to have regarding Mount regular season football games.  Heck....even early play-off games.

I think the huge WOW factor won't set in until AFTER this run is over.  And from what I am hearing......don't expect that to be any time soon.   ;D

I understand your point on Capital possibly overlooking the Otters but Coach Collins is way too good a coach to let that happen.  I'm sure he was preaching "2005" all week.  OTT should always scare the Crusaders because it's about as close a game as they have to those high school rivalry games we all experienced where you could never overlook that the underdog could make their entire season by ruining yours.  Capital just dropped the ball and unfrotunately for them, I doubt LK and crew will be doing any overlooking this Saturday.

Also, I think the 283rd team in D3 would like to see coverage of itself, just like the number 1 would.

I know Muskingum and Hiram are BAD but it's not fair to put them at 283 when there are only 238 teams in Division III.

Please don't speak for the 99% that you don't represent.

Strangely, PG04 isn't a Mount Union supporter either. ;D Although I thought we might have converted him last year. ;D

What made OU 25 think I wasn't part of the 99%?  Weird since I think it's fairly obvious from my avatar that I am not associated with MUC!

Please re-read what I said...

1. Mount Union "fans" or interest in Mount Union football (media/others etc.) represents more than 1% of the total participation or interest in this site or around D3 football in general.  That is my belief.  Your comment that 99% of the audience does not care or does not follow Mount Union football would be "false" in my opinion.

2.  I never said that you were or were not a MUC fan.  What I said was that you don't represent the supposed beliefs of 99% of the D3 audience....so therefore how could you give that opinion about people's mass interest of disinterest of Mount Union Football in the first place???  If you've been elected to that position please forgive me.  I don't claim to speak for others regardless of the program or programs that I follow.

If you want to be technical however....You coming on this board and talking about Mount...is in fact showing an "interest" in their program which actually adds additional credence to my point.

And you and I both know that you can preach all you want about not overlooking an opponent, and I agree with you about Coach Collins, but in the end it all comes down to the players buying in.  You can look them in the face all week, you can make practices extra tough, you can remind them of 2005 all you want, but they have to buy in.  I'm not saying they didn't, and I'm not faulting the coaches or players for letting it happen (if it did), but it certainly is a thought that needs to be considered (Even though Coach Collins will probably give me a full ration of S**t for even thinking it next time I see him).

Skunks sidekick,

As far as crowd noise and complacency are concerned......winning should not be the excuse for lack of it. What would fans rather have ....500 records every year.

Speaking from experience it does not have to be that way. For example.....
St. Johns University in Collegeville wins the attendence award every year with the average home game at 8000! They are located 75 miles from the Twin Cities and really in the middle of no where...sorry Collegeville. St. Cloud is the closest town and they have their own team to support in St. Cloud State. So they have fans that make the long distance trip to see a winning program that is used to winning most games by a fairly good margin. Sound like anyone else we know? They do not sit on their plaid blankets on top of their hands...They cheer for their team and expect them to win. They enjoy the pregame....do they ever...post game and post, post game. I am saddened by 3500 attendence numbers when the Raiders have such a fine program and that's all the more fans that show up. As far as the students well.....I realize they have laundry to do and rooms to clean and of course studying to do so that should all be reserved for Saturday afternoons for about a 2 1/2 hour time period between 1:30 and 4:00 pm. Somehow I don't remember that being my focus on those Saturdays...Oh ya I was cleaning LK's cleats at that time. LOL.

Anyway, rant over. How are Gertrude and Harold doing this year? Have you caught them messing around under their plaid balnket yet?. And let the hot cocoa flow like fine wine! ;D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Alright, BW fans...last year when I posted that the BW bench used bush league tactics during games (making noise by yelling "oohhhhhhhh"), Wizardman said, "That's called home field advantage."  (See p. 469)  If that's home field advantage...what is it when they do the same thing on the road?

I mean this:  To any BW players reading this...high school girls softball teams think that you guys are bush league.  Shut up and play.  What are you doing trying to make noise to distract your opponent's offense?  Let your fans take care of that...or better yet, don't get doubled up by Heidelberg so you still have fans.

LOL, did someone say there wasn't some fauder to start an argument?  ;D
Toph, any score on JCU?  Hope to see you again at the Stagg and well when we play you again in the Shula shack here soon!

Well, now I'm sure you know the JCUers score, so I don't think I need to tell you  ;).  I was at the Mount game on Saturday so I didn't catch the Carroll score until after.  I will be at the Shu (how has that name not caught on?  I did my best during my time there...but it never stuck) in a couple weeks to watch Carroll try to pull off the upset of the century.  Drop me a PM if you're going to be in UHeights and maybe we can meet up for a drink.  I will also be at the Stagg barring the biggest collapse since...well, the Tribe in 07.

D3 Poster

Cap has a first rate defense.  Unfortunately, the offense is not at the same level and it finally caught up to them.  Without AA (Assman & Alexander). I don't think the offense has the firepower to threaten the Raiders.

reality check

So far this season Mount Union is outscoring opponents 56-3.  If not for the offensive explosion (sarcasm) of Otterbein, that number would be even more skewed.

Imagine if the Raiders win their next two games in similar fashion to the ONU and BW games.  What if a 40-0 loss is all that an above-average OAC team can muster?!?  I can actually see programs saying to themselves at the end of the year, "Well they got us 40-something to zero but that was better than their 53 point average spread on the year."

And now I hear their long snapper is down to a 4.1 forty thanks to all that plyometrics work.

That is certainly true, but it's not like it's even 10%, I would say.

Plus, remember, we cover NEWS. Mount Union thrashing another opponent isn't particularly new. It's always mentioned on the front page but isn't going to be the lead over more interesting stories, etc.
