Ric is without doubt right about the Cap game being the hardest hitting game the Raiders have been in.He sees every game, talks to the coaches often and knows what he is seeing on the field.A subjective opinion by a player has less objective credibility than an expert opinion by a long time keen observer like Ric.

Thx Purple appreciate the comments.

There is something to the Game Day thing.  It is a possibility.  But it has been a possibility in the past as well.  I'd wait till there is something official on this site or at MUC.EDU before planning on it as fact.

I think DP is a very good recruiter as well as a great game-day coach.  What I do think might be a little different in the DP era versus the Kaz era is that DP focuses so much on an academic mission.  This is not a knock on Kaz but rather a compliment for Paul.  I hear every year of the great talent that ONU is bringing in so it's hard to believe the recruiting is not on par with the 90's and early 00's.  I would venture to say that the all-state players are greater in number than what we saw during many of the Kaz years but I believe there are more young recruits that don't cut it regarding grades and living up to the standards of the ONU program.  When your football team focuses on a team GPA greater than the school's overall GPA, you are setting your standards high and might be losing a couple of the players that would have been fine before.  That's not to say that we didn't have good student athletes at ONU under Coach Kaz.  There were plenty of great student athletes then as well as now but I would bet a couple great athletes of the "glory years" would not exactly fit into the vision of the staff at ONU right now.  Who's philosophy is better???  I'm not sure either is right or wrong; just different.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

hscoach--Anyone associated with CWRU who has any sense knows that MUC is [at least] a whole level above what is surely the best team the Spartans have ever had.  I'm waiting to see how far Wheaton falls in the RR.  The only Mount I want a piece of is MSJ, then maybe Wabash.

rc--are you playing the academic card?   ;)

Just got home from watching Navy end a 43 year losing streak to ND.  Someone mentioned how far JCU has fallen, but there is another Catholic University a few miles west of Cleveland that is REALLY struggling...

Lets not rush to judgement on Capital with a tough win over the Muskies.  It looks like they lost QB #2 (Wade Bartholomew) and had to go to their third string guy (Robbie Thayer) today.

The defense forced three or four turnovers and the stats were heavily in Cap's favor.  If not for a missed Cap FG and a late muskie TD, the score would have looked much worse.

Bartholomew was not performing well & moving the offense, so they decided to put in Thayer...biggest question is going to be, who is going to start against BW??  A win may put Cap in the playoffs, but Im not sold on them getting in, as they have not played playoff caliber football since they beat ONU...their defense has been on the field way toooo long...lets hope we can get it together for BW, so I can change my mind!!

At least one level above CWRU. I think this Mount team is a level above whoever is No. 2 in the poll, let alone above Case.

Regarding who I would like to see MUC schedule game 1 in the future......
Notre Dame.  And now is the time to do it too....get em while they are down. ::) Make em come to US too, we have the better record! ;D  If MUC wins then that will settle it for all time whether  the Raiders are good enough to play a D1 team.

But seriously folks......Does anyone remember the Notre Dame hoax on April Fools Day when the phoney press release announced The Fighting Irish had signed MUC to a contract? They were blowing fuses out there at Notre Dame for a couple of days till the truth came out.  It was posted on here last spring. Maybe Pat Coleman or someone can re-run that again for all those who missed it the first time around. Im not computer savy enough to try it myself.

Did anyone notice that this year Mount Union has the worst non-conference schedule in the OAC?

It hasn't fazed the poll voters  ;)

There are so many Purple Raider fans on these boards that you are running out of recognizable variations of the name.  New posters have to figure out what works.  :)

As for the playoffs, I think that Otterbein knocked Capital out of Pool C.

I agree with Skunks that SJU would be a great match up for the opener.  What a fine test and, equally as important, fun road trip to kick off the season that would be.

If that's out of the question then for totally selfish reasons I would love to see the Raiders schedule Walsh.  I'm not sure of any potential pitfalls of scheduling a NAIA school, but I don't think it's uncommon for non-conference games in D3.  I think anyone that grew up in or has lived in Stark County knows there's a certain level of arrogance over in N. Canton (and some of my own friends are included in that group).  I would love to see the debate settled on the field.
