Kira & Jaxon's Dad

4blue1,

I was just kidding you about Curry. Usually when someone posts for the first time about some player, they are related somehow.
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Kirasdad,
No problem - you're probably right.  I have enjoyed reading posts here for a long time little shy about making comments.  I just know this young man to be a good all around athlete and would like to see a small town boy do good.  I do know that Curry chose Marietta over quite a few choices because he believed the head coach was a straight shooter according to his grandpa.  Also he had a good chance of playing as a freshman and being able to have a chance to punt and receive.

First please do not make any comparisons about the Raiders to that team from up north. Insult of all insults for a Buckeye guy too.

You have hit the nail on the head in my opinion about the expected wins. That leads to an attitude that we may be accused of but is more a complacence rather than arrogance. IMO.

It doesn't have to be that way but I am not sure how you change it.

As I stated earlier I am in MN and view a great number of MIAC games and have built a very nice relationship in particular with the fans of St Johns University. There is passion about this team every week that is displayed in the form of  minimum crowds at home games of 5-6000 and big games in excess of 10,000. They have the highest attendence figures in all of D3 every year. The college is located a good hour from the Twin Cities in the middle of nowhere. No offense intended.Their tradition while a  bit deeper seeded because of John Gagliardi now coaching his 47th year and attaining his 400th win at St Johns this year has something to do with it. Check out the photo gallery of the St Johns vs Concordia game this past weekend. When you see some of the views of the stands for the St Johns side.......they were the visitors. Matched the home crowd very closely. Hint...you will see a Purple Raider in that crowd too! It's kind of a where's waldo but he can be found.

We certainly have built a reputation and a tradition that deserves the same passion.

I am not trying to be critical because there is no one more  passionate about the Raiders but could we make some noise this weekend? Big game big stakes let's make it a big deal. This is not a guaranteed win. As Ohio Polar Bear mentioned our streaks have ended more often on our own field.

Is there anyone out there from DELTA  IOTA  KAPPA to get the crowd fired up?   Opps maybe I shouldn't use the word fire.

Go Raiders!

Ohio Polar Bear

I could never get tired of beating Da' Bears.

Let's see how do you like your bear steaks rare, medium or Done?

I think they're well done on Saturday.

Go Raiders!

That's easy to fix.  Kehres retires, the team wallows in mediocrity for a decade or so, then rises from the ashes to become champions again.

As much as I dislike the overall complacency of the MUC crowds, it's only human nature to do so.  The Stagg loss in 2003 made last years crowds slightly more vocal, mainly in the playoffs.  The MHB loss last year should have the same effect on this year's playoff crowds.  It's just human nature to become complacent on the expected, regardless of how great the expected occurence is.  Case in point:  How in the world could an ugly schmuck like Billy Joel get sick of banging Christy Brinkley?   Doesn't matter how great the piece of ass is (or the team is), after a while, you'll get tired of it.  The only difference between a good piece and a great piece is how long it takes to tire of it.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Good idea.  When can that start?  How about tommorrow?  No sense in wasting any more time.  Championships are great but you guys really need to boost your vocal support ASAP.

NO SUCH LUCK, reality check.  One more for the W column this week for MUC!  And I always yell!

Beyond the bravado, if any OAC team could beat Mount this year, it's Northern. If any OAC coach could beat Kehres this year it's Dean Paul. I always said that eventually too many of Larry's players will become successful at imitating him and he'll retire. The rise of W&J, Coe, Lakeland and the rewakening of Northern stand as proof. I don't think Dean has had enough time to reshape the total program, but his day is coming. I have nothing but respect for the man.

From one theaprof to another--sorry "Wabash Always Fights!" causes you to gag (OAC "pickems").  Surely, after all their success, the MUC purple have their own rallying cry.  If you knew the history behind this slogan to the L'il Giants and their faithful, I would like to think that you might not be so flip.  Anyway, it works for us.  Good luck to the MUC faithful against ONU on Saturday in Alliance.

Mt Union football, Christy Brinkley and Billy Joel all in the same context?

BRILLIANT!

Could I apply to become complacent with Christy? Where do I sign up.

It's like the lottery. Everyone says how bad things go for the lives of the winners. I would like the chance to see how it ruins my life too.

Seventies,

I agree Dean is a great guy and has done a terrific job so far at ONU. I hope he doesn't have to pay the dues for the idiot before him. That is not right for him or the players.

I think he may pay some dues this weekend. Let's hope it 's not for a long term membership.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

We're supposed to cheer? I thought that was why we have 200 people on our sideline. That's twice as many people as Wilmington or Muskingum ever bring.

seventies,

The good news I hope is he is not anywhere close to retiring. That would make me old too.

I mean John at St Johns is in year 47 so there is still some time for Larry to stick around.

The other good news is Vince or Woj are there and with all his desciples if there was a need to replace him I would think the line would be full of great choices with proven track records.

Maybe Dean Paul would come back. Is that OK RC.

RC
Retire before this weekend? HMMMMMMM. You have about the same odds on that happening as you do with those Power Ball tickets you bought this week.

That reminds me, where do I collect my winnings for Powerball?  I borrowed my grandma's coin purse but I think I will need something larger to carry home my share.

On another note, when LK does decide to move on, the list of potential successors promises to be a long one.  I would not want to be on the committee that has to make that decision.  So many alums having success all over makes that a very tough call.

I know what you mean.  I would characterize it as complacency also.  Indeed, the St. John's situation is unique, but a great one.  Those kind of crowds are exciting for everyone - team and the fans - Hope played in front of about 4500 people at Homecoming last weekend, and of course, the Monon Bell (DePauw and Wabash, like St. John's will draw a 10,000 attendance).  I remember when Dayton led DIII in attendance a few years back 8-9-10,000 per game was wonderful.

Anyway, I doubt that MUC will lose its support.  The boisterousness (or lack thereof) of the fans is going to fluctuate from time to time at any school.

BTW, no insult intended re: your "team up north" comment, nor mine to you.  I am a U of M fan (my dad is an alumnus; also have been a Northwestern fan for years, and well before others jumped on the "bandwagon" regarding that team).  I used to hate Ohio State, however, I now root for them (except against Michigan of course, and perhaps Northwestern ;)), because of the class act that is Jim Tressel.  (A close friend of mine had one of his employees sons play for Tressel at YSU).  Anyway, the MUC/ONU game hopefully will be a great one for the fans on both sides, regardless of who wins.

Ya what was I thinking?

Let's bring 7000 people together and see how quiet we can be.

A three hour time out for everones nap.

The silence will really intimidate ONU and they will go ruunning into the afternoon sun not knowing what to do.

Now I know what the secret plan is.

Thanks.

Again...any DELTA IOTA KAPPA'S OUT THERE?

Maybe they have diappeared into the silence as well.

I repeat I hope Ebert and Roper don't have a thumbs up for the new movie
