MUCs dominance this year coupled with their desire NOT TO RUN UP THE SCORE ( YES Im talking to you Mr Easterbrook) probably cost both Garcon and Kmic consideration for post season awards. It certainly cost both playing time. Maybe consideration should be adjusted to reflect production relative to time played. Lets see who was REALLY most productive. Justin Beaver will probably win the Gagliardi Award mostly because Kmic had about a third of the attempts The Beave did.

Regarding Cap playing  a defensive player at running back yesterday....I hinted at that in an earlier post. I thought they were a little thin on offense and would have to bring one of their better athletes over from defense to compete. They eaked one out yesterday with it.....but the playoffs are another thing. If they sneak in the playoffs its gonna be tough to survive very long that way.

Talk about being thin on offense........a MARIETTA fan told me yesterday that their second and third string QBs were out due to suspension and leaving the team. When their starter got whacked and had to leave the game, a running back had to take snaps. So, Cap isnt alone with roster problems  after all.

Will Bob Frantz revise his article that called MUC the second best team in Ohio now that OSU is no longer #1 in the BCS?

I don't think the Gagliardi award is strictly a performance award. Just ask Mr. Sutton from Wooster a few years back. It is based on criteria as a player, student, and community member.

I did notice the Short-to-Short pass connection yesterday....

Does anyone remember the Toth-to Toth connection (for a TD if I remember properly)...

Joe Toth was scrambling to his right, 8 yard line south endzone, looking for Paul Gulling...just as Toth went to throw, Gulling, thinking Toth was going to run, turned to block a DB...Toth throws and hits Gulling right between the numbers ON HIS BACK and the ball ricochets right back to Toth who runs it in...was the funniest thing I have seen on a football field...

So I am sitting in class yesterday wearing my Mount hat and discretely checking the score on my laptop when a classmate (from Canton) asks me "Why does Mount Union keep ducking Walsh?" I said she was crazy and that MUC does not "duck" anyone. She persisted and said that Walsh's Coach has asked Mount for a game and they won't play them. Thoughts? I don't buy it - but I thought I would ask in hopes that the more informed (i.e. Ric and several others) would be able to enlighten me.

In reality - I think Mount would DESTROY Walsh like everyone else.

That should read: "In reality - I think Mount would DESTROY Walsh like they have everyone else"

Thoughts on yesterday....play-offs...

Since my youth football comittments ended at the end of October.....I FINALLY got to attend my first Mount game this year......

 • If a team can't get pressure on Micheli......there is NO WAY for any defense to cover all of Mount's weapons
 • I am a "tiny bit" concerned about the lack of running game the last two weeks.......I think it has something to do with Morring being out....does anyone know how long?

 • What happened to Rocco (backup QB)...did he get hurt or is he in LK's doghouse?
 • Does anyone see the similarities to how Micheli was used early in his career at Mount with Short next year?  Kind of a "change-up" deal?

Our defense is just so fast, big, tough at the point of attack, and just plays at a level I haven't seen a Mount D reach before.  It's AMAZING!

Oh...and please drop the Walsh thing.  As I have mentioned earlier, I talk to a few Walsh coaches regularly, and they have NO delusions about playing Mount Union.  It must be student thing.  It's NOT a coach thing.

Does that mean Cap's best athlete is a defensive lineman??  Nothing against this young man, as he plays hard each snap, but Cap's O-Line gets no push for a smash-mouth running game they tried to show yesterday against BW...the biggest question & turning point of the game was, why did BW blitz 9 guys on the 35 yard td pass??  BW's took some chances yesterday, and very few went in their favor.....

Assuming Cap makes it in, I'm not sure what to think of Capital's playoff chances this season.  The entire offense is a mess, but the defense is lights out.

If Capital is going to win this week, they're going to have to rely on their defense being so much better than anything the opponent has seen that it sends the opponent reeling.  I think a match-up with someone like Case would be an easy win.  Someone like Franklin/Mt St Joe/Wabash would probably be even.  And NCC wouldn't be good for Capital due to the conference preparing NCC.

Too bad Assman, Alexander and Blake are gone because with even an average offense, Capital is playing MUC in the Regional Final for the 3rd straight year.  Still impressed that Collins kept Cap at the 2nd OAC spot with after all the graduation losses.  Even more impressed after seeing the injuries.  Without the big turn around at Heidelberg, Collins would be my choice for OAC Coach of the Year.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I actually thought Toth hit Gulling a little bit lower.  And yes, it went for a touchdown.  Parent's Day game, 1978 I believe.  [Only game my parents ever saw]

Good memory, old timer!

Evan Blake has been playing, and even played against MUC (leading received w/ 2 catches for 11 yds ;)).  I think Cap can play against Franklin, MT. St. Joe, & Case...but, Wabash scares me (see 2005 @ Wabash, they escaped that place w/ a win) & NCC would be very, very difficult to get a "W" (as the 3rd time probably would be the charm this time around)...I guess will have to wait & see what the NCAA has in store for Cap!!

Well Mount Union seems to be in the East Bracket and I think everybody in the E8 and the NJAC just collectively cried....Sweet lord what have we done to deserve this??

Bill McCabe

Is that surprising the NCAA would move Mount Union to the east?

Ithaca...fresh meat! And does it really matter if Mount is in the East? Nope!!

Obviously the NCAA wants some fresh blood to come of the North for the first time in 20 years.
