reality check

What happened to playoff trash talk???

The most successful individual rusher on the regular season vs. Mount Union was Capital's Matt Merritt with 58 net yards rushing on 22 carries.  Ithaca's RB Donovan is averaging over 100 yards a game on 21 carries a game.  He's the only 1000 rusher Mount has faced on the season.  Mount's defense is averaging 56 yards lost in rushing for game (negative plays).

Does Donovan get more than 58 yards rushing?  He's lost 21 yards rushing on the season.  Does he lose 21 yards or more in this game alone given Mount's track record for yards lost per game?

Ithaca's leader in sacks has 4.0 on the year.  The team averages 2.1 sacks per game.  Does anyone get to Micheli Saturday?

Ithaca's blocked 6 kicks on the year.  Mount Union's blocked 7.  5 of the blocked kicks have come at the hands of Bomber's defender Drescher.  With so much success coming from one player, does Drescher get anywhere near a kick against Mount Union because of MUC's preparation?

It's been 397 minutes and 33 seconds of game action since the last point was scored on Mount Union.  How far into this game until that streak is snapped?  Is it snapped?  (It's been 486 minutes and 15 seconds since the last TD.)

Just some questiosn to start some chatter.  I am looking forward to Saturday.  And I hope they're believing in themselves in Bexley.  It would be great to see CAP play their best against UWW.

Yes, it looks as though they'll be broadcasting the game... here is the school radio station, and I assume you'd just click "listen live" on Saterday.

How many yards rushing did the Robinson kid from fellow E8er, St. John Fisher have against MUC last year??

Not to be disrespectful on your board, but without question I would take Ithaca +31...

Good job runk to catch your mistake.

I'll bite on reality check's questions--IC doesn't get a block, because they will only have one or two shots--Mount won't be punting more than twice unless it's a real blowout and we have to send in the fourth team offense--oh yeah, that's right, we don't get to dress that many players this week, so it's all first and second team--guess there won't be many punts.

Shutout may not happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

I think Drescher is in for a rude awakening when he finally faces an o-line that won't be in the least intimidated by his numbers.  They may get a sack or two, but no more than that.

The better question is--will IC be able to hold Mount's offense to less than 54 points.  And will they be able to outscore our defense?--I predict 8-12 points scored by our D this week.

Now let's see them react to that!!

If you're a Mount fan and hoping to listen to the game on the web, I would encourage you to listen to WRMU's webcast (www.muc.edu/wrmu).  Nothing against the WICB boys, I'm sure they do a great job, but if you're Mount fan, I'd go with the WRMU webcast.  Pregame show starts at 11:15 am on Saturday.
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.

Go ahead and take the 31 pts...you lose!

Hey reality...The Bomber fans are in the "if" mode...if we do this right or that right we can win...Mount fans say we know...

...We know Nate will run for 100+ and 3 TD's
...We know Garcon will make a big play or two or...
...We know Micheli will be on his game
...We know that the D will attack, smother and not let their offense breathe!

Pretty simple really!

I'll take the 31 points.

Why isn't anyone answering how many yards Robinson got last year on this defense that allowed similar numbers you're so liberally throwing around?

Donovan isn't anywhere near Robby, but the point is that the East is going to bring more to the table than you boys think.

Jonny Utah

How is the playoff roster numbers going to effect both teams special teams units?  Im sure some guys are going to have to be replaced on each unit?

I generally hate to answer a questions with a question but is Donovan anywhere near as good as Robinson?  While he seems beter than the average DIII RB, he doesn't appear to be as good as Robinson was in 2006.

Donovan averages 108 a game and 5.3 a carry.  Robinson came into that game in 2006 averaging 112 a game and 6.0 a carry.  His averages were better than most agains the Raiders but 3.9 per carry for (39 yards on one carry by the way) 110 is still below his normal output.

Mount gave up 4 rushing TD's on the season last year and 1 of them was to Robinson.  The 2006 MUC defense gave up 30.0 rushing yards a game.

The 2007 unit has surrendered 1 rushing TD so far and is giving up 12.2 rushing yards a game.

I know games aren't won on paper but the paper says a less talented back is playing a more talented defense than the scenario with Robinson and MUC last year.  So you tell me who that favors.  I hope I'm wrong and Donovan gives those Raiders a game on Saturday.  But in the end, GO OAC!!!

Robinson's stat line from last year (from Ric's site):

Rushing         No Gain Loss  Net TD Lg  Avg
--------------------------------------------
Mark Robinson   28  124   14  110  1 39  3.9

MTU usually puts their starters on the special teams during the playoffs.  See the punt return/block team in the Stagg Bowl last year for an example...

Mount's special teams will just get better.  If for no other reason than the staff knows all too well about trimming down playoff rosters (moreso than less seasoned playoff participants) and will have their special teamers prepared and filled out with the best guys for the job.  If probably has potential to hurt many playoff teams adjusting to playoff roster size but in this case, it probable makes MUC even better than before.  Scary.
