There have been bigger suprises in the history of d3football than if MUC lost this year.  They are the clear favorites, but they arent invincible.

In all of the years of this riegn of dominance, quite possibly the greatest in the history of sports, this is arguably the best team Mount Union has ever fielded.  Nuff said...

I really would have liked to see how the 2006 SJF team matched up against this 2007 MUC team. This years Fisher team was not as good as 2006, and in my opinion (like many others I guess), this years MUC team was much better.

At any rate, they still made a very solid Fisher team look like a JV team --- It's hard to believe anyone will be able to beat this team from here on out, although anything is possible.

Just by looking at them though, they dont look that impressive.  Thats not to say they arent the best d3 team in the history of d3 teams.  But it is still a d3 football team.

I watch a lot of 1-AA football.  I live down the street from Northeastern University's field and Ive seen most of their home games over the past two years.  Northeastern and every team they play would beat MUC by 3-5 touchdowns easy.  They are all 5X the size of MUC, and the defenses are 10X faster.

That being said, I dont think Ithaca, SJF (this year) or TCNJ had the size or team speed to slow them down at all.  These other teams could be different.  Thats all Im sayin.

And a D1AA team should beat a D3 team everytime.  Yes, as far as I knew, this is a board on DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL.COM

I'm sure Michigan through the same thing before playing Appalachian State. I think Mount would be competitive against quite a few I-AA programs.

I wasnt that suprised by the Michigan/App St. game as most people probably were.

I saw Northeastern almost beat a BC team a few years ago at BC, and Umass almost beat them this year as well.  1-AA teams beating 1-A teams isnt unheard of or as far-fetched as a d3 team beating a 1-aa scholorship.

(1-AA non-scholorship is d3 for the most part (Ivys and Patriot teams excluded))

Do any of the final teams have a great QB?  That might be the key.

Mount's Micheli is the only top 50 Quarterback among the final four and his passing efficiency rating of 202.2 through 12 games was easily number one in D3. There are more things than stats that go into being a great QB but I think he's the best still playing Saturday

The day after winning the Stagg Bowl the Raiders should be good Ohioans and help OSU get ready for the National Championship game ;)  Everyone blamed the long break between games for the lack of sharpness last year. Who better to practice with than a championship caliber team themselves? Tressel can thank me for the idea with tickets to the championship game. Just glad to help. ;D

30 feet tall, 1400 pounds and defenders that run 40's in half a second.  I saw that all the time watching Dayton Flyers football as a kid.

Utah, all I know is that I've seen a handful of I-AA games myself and I did radio play-by-play at D-II U of New Haven for one season.  I said it then and I'll say it now that Mount could have beaten half the teams I saw in Division II and would have had a chance at beating all the others.  I also know that Dayton has recently played Wittenberg and ONU and all three games were competitive (wins by 7, 14, 21).  I have every reason to believe that MUC could win a game versus Dayton given the shot.

I know you were referring to Division I-AA but I used the D-II comparison to establish the fact that MUC, in my experience, can be competitive against higher level programs.  I'm not saying they'd dominate, but I believe they could be competitive and win a respectable number.

If I'm not mistaken, Division I FBS is about 88 scholarships and FCS is 65.

Compare that to the margin between FCS (65 scholarships) and D-III (0).

with all due respect to bethel, does anybody know which hotel would be Mount's home for the Stagg Bowl weekend?  I saw on the official site that they switched it up somewhat this year

Yea I have no idea how Dayton would stack up against a team like Youngstown, who would be more like Northeastern and the other top 1-AA teams.

And Ithaca beat Dayton in 1991, so Im sure you were a kid when Dayton was not a 1-AA school.

The old New Haven teams (pre-1995 or so?) were pretty good nationally, and they played a national schedule.  But the other d2 teams in New England were all teams that Ithaca used to play anyway and did well against.  (Mansfield, AIC, CW Post, Albany,).  I would agree that MUC would do well against 90% of d2 teams.  I think Ithaca would beat 50% of them.

But my point was that these top 1-AA teams look like they would handle MUC on the field, and that I havent seen any of these other d3 teams (Bethel, UWW and MHB).  Maybe they are different than the other teams MUC have played.  My other point was that the top 3-4 teams in the country are usually a lot better than everyone else.  I just looked at MUCs 2000 season and a few others and came up with that.....

But I would love to see MUC play Grand Valley St next year as the non-conference game.  Im suprised they dont have a game like that......
