Also... I know most of you are in love with this year's defense, but from what I saw between last year's Fisher game vs. this years, I truly liked last year's defense better.

Sure you did--last year you were able to keep the game close--last week was another story indeed--except for a fluke catch by drum boy and a long run on the last (and meaningless) play of the game :-[, this year's MUC defense shut you down like you were a light switch. ;D ;D
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

reality check

After reading today's posts I'm even less impressed with Bethel's chances.  Their coach "thinks a punch 'em in the mouth" approach is the winning formula?!?  How much good is punching going to do when you're down 21 points in the first quarter.  The Augie matchup comparison is great though.  I could see Bethel controlling the clock and losing big.  If their goal is to win the T.O.P. battle and not the one on the scoreboard then it's their funeral.

They won't be able to establish the run by forcing it between the tackles.  The defensive tackles are bigger beasts on the stat page than they've been in a long time.  If I wanted to establish any kind of running game it would be misdirection (trap, counter, draw) with runs outside the tackles and an occasional dive/iso just to keep the defense a little balanced.  If they do better than 2.0 YPC I'll be completely surprised.

If you're going to beat MUC, your play calling needs to be impeccable and your execution flawlesss.  After reading Bethel's coach talk about their approach, I can't tell if he's underestimating MUC or just completely clueless as to what is about to take place on Saturday.  Either way, I'm not feeling too good about Bethel's chances.

If the raiders are going to win, it's probably going to be through the air as Bethel's run D has been very tough as of late.

I'll bet MUC rushes for at least 150 yards versus the Royals.

If MUC doesn't rush for at least that much, Bethel's D will truly be something that Mount fans "have not seen" this year since I don't think any team has come close to holding Mount under 150 yards as a team.

Had to throw this in as well concerning the "Bible thumping" Baptists from Bethel.  What is the difference between a Baptist and a Methodist?  Answer: Methodists drink with the blinds open.
Answer:  A Methodist will say hello to you in a liquor store.

RedToothe, I am not sure who your are or who you are for, but as far as Kyle Lee is concerned, he has had some injury issues, and Bernstetter has been used as necessary according to the game plan.   This plan will change if necessary this week.  I  assure you we will use them as needed in Alliance.  If you are a BU fan, go back to the MIAC boards and join the scattered johnnie posters, you will do well there..  If you are a MIAC guy, we are playing for SJU, Olaf, Iowa, Minnesota, and all the other states that encompass the MIAC..  If you think we are scared of Mount Union, you are wrong,  I know big words, but one thing they have not seen yet,  a team that  wants to play one more week,  not just for the championship, but for the fact they get to be together one more time as a team that puts everyone else first.  Mount Union is full of great athletes, sure of the victory, sure of a lot of victories to come, but this week, this time, they play a team that believes in eachother.  If we cant get it done with the recievers, we will stick it in there ear with the defense, and if we get scored on, we will score on the floor, or through the air.  but any which way, they will know they were up against a team unlike they have seen.  If these points end up in quotations, know this Mount Union, we dont care about your stats, your players, or your coaches, this team got here together, and we will show up and play together.  I remember a SJU team that shocked the world a few years ago, and we were just a minute away that year from beating the SJU team that went on to be who?   SJU did it because they believed, they were not intimitaded, and they showed up,  all of which I expect Bethel to do this weekend.  D3 finaly gives props to the team that I know has the ability to shock even you Raiders..   Strap them tight boys..............

Ok I won't tell if you don't tell

skunks_sidekick

Hey RA.....you are right!

Bethel surely must play harder and more together than.....
St. John Fisher
Ithaca
Whitewater (twice)
Rowan
etc....etc.....etc.....

The "play harder and as a team like no other" crap is just that....crap.  Mount ALWAYS expects and gets their opponents best game and effort.  It's just that with Mount's preparation, superior players, unrivaled (in the last 15 years) accomplishments, and the best coach possibly ever to coach at D-III (no offense to Gags), most of the time effort and togetherness just isn't enough.  It just doesn't matter.

I truly appreciate your spirit, your guys will need it.  I hope it's a great game and not another Pickett's Charge reminiscent of Confederate General Armistead shouting to his troops just before being shot in the head, "Give them cold steel, boys!"

Big argument on the UMHB WW game over the weather.  A few posters from MBH are saying that when they beat MUC it was in a blizzard.   I don't know if that is true or not. Question for all the MUC fans, what type of field did they play on?  was it Turf or Grass.  I know that MHB plays on Turf and that the difference this weekend will be the field conditions at WW since it is a grass field.  Any observations from Ohio?

I think you guys have been too good over the last three years to be concerning yourself with having an advantage because of weather or field conditions.

royalachilles,

I love your spirit, and admire your optimism.  Keep it up, and enjoy the game this weekend.  All we ask is that if y'all lose, try and offer the due respect to the winning team.  UMHB, SJU, ONU will tell you that when Mount loses, their fans are quick to give credit to the team that won.  Good luck this weekend, but if it doesn't work out as you hope, we look forward to hearing from you again.
