Does anybody think that Rocky and his "Cru" of underachievers can pull off being spoilers for one of the current contenders. God knows Capital has the talent.
Thank God we actually have something to talk about and speculate on this late in the season. Kind of refreshing being a fan from less than the Top Dog. Do I get to complain about those damn arrogant Polar Bear fans now?

You're still top dog, it's just a little more crowded at the top now.  Obviously I haven't seen Cap yet this year, but as you said they have the talent.  However, I expect ONU to be playing their best football of the season now that the playoffs are in sight.  I think it'll be a rough day for the other team in purple.

Kilted Rat

Just read Ric's game summary (nicely put together as always) and noticed that the ONU back is only a freshman!

First of all, that was a huge performance in a huge game for a frosh... being from TN and possibly not knowing MUC that well may have helped, but still very impressive.

Secondly from anyone who was at the game, was the kid running that well or did his O-line clear a good path for him?

Thanks!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

In regard to your question about Meadows and the O line; yes he ran that hard.  His yards after contact have been impressive all year, but that O line gives him a place to run.  They played the games of their lives up front.  Garrod, the other back can't be overlooked.  He also runs the ball well and with the 2 of them, they are able to stay a little fresher. In watching the running game, for the Bears, I get a kick out of watching the FB Sommers.  This kid is a hard nosed lead blocker who clears a path for whoever is carrying the ball.

Long-time reader/first-time poster.

I too congratulate ONU - They kicked us real good.  I too have some thoughts - maybe Ric has some better insight....

#1) Who is the coach calling making the awful play-calling?  It is obvious in other games when LK takes the O-calling back?  8 or 9 runs to open the game?  First pass on a 4th down?  How NOT MUC football...

#2) Is Jorris any good?  Apparently the coach calling the plays wasn't sure at first... But then constantly overthrowing you receivers (unless you count the db as a receiver - then he was right on) doesn't help.  Where was Mason?  It might not have hurt to try him....

#3) Why do they try Robinson at the goal line instead of Ibeh???  Ibeh is a bigger back and might have gotten in an earlier down?

#4) 4 downs inside the 10 at the end of the half and no corner pattern pass?  Just 4 tries to RUN it in - once again - not a typical MUC play call.

#5) When will the secondary coaches EVER insist on our dbs actually covering the opponent's receivers???  ONU was always tight on our receivers even willing to take the pass interference rather than giving up a big pass play.  The last MUC touchdown was a fluke as the dbs must have messed up.  It seems we always let the receiver catch it and tackle him to prevent the big play instead of timing the hit on the receiver?

#6) It may be just me - but since I go to all the home games the coaching staff is acting much differently this year...

From a Mount fan, congrats to Dean Paul and the Polar Bears! No excuses here. This is why games are played on the field! The Bears wanted it and earned it.

I too an disappointed by the MUC fans lack of enthusiasm displayed at the game.

Should Mount win out and go to the playoffs, home field and the #1 seed was lost today. The purple will have to become road warriors.

Looking forward to a rematch in the playoffs. What a blast would that be! Might be played in Ada this time.

Should JCU, ONU and MUC all finish 9-1, any chance all 3 could get in under the expanded play-offs?

Now that it is all said and done, and having been in Alliance for the "game", I have to give Coach Paul, Coach Hairston and the rest of the staff tons of credit for the gameplan they put in place.  They obviously had the Bears prepared to play and in the right frame of mind.
To the Raider faithful, credit to you; you can talk "smack" early in the season and weekly, but why not?  What a team and what a program, but you were gracious in your hard-fought win last year and have been nothing but gracious in a tough loss this year.  Everytime I get myself geared up to "strongly dislike", (sounds better than hate), the "purple people from Alliance, you guys go and do something like being nice and I have to respect you even more.
Now, I wonder if my shoes will dry out in time for the Cap game this week.

To i_love_d3_football,

#1 Agree on this one, don't know who is doing the play calling. Maybe Cambell or Bruney? But Robinson was running the ball well and on that 4th down play, the ref closest to the play called him in, maybe he bobbled the ball. If MTU scores there, could have been a different game.

#2 He is one of the top QBs in the country on pass efficiency. He sure didn't look like it on Saturday.

#3 Agree, or maybe a play action pass on 2nd or 3rd down. I also thought Robinson was in bounds on the play that they called out at the 4.

#4 Agree, see #3.

#5 That was rediculous. Every time it was 3rd down, ONU was able to complete a pass to a wide open receiver for a 1st down. We have 5 DBs in the game, they shouldn't be that wide open.

#6 My first game this year. We know that Monty is gone so Wojo and VK are calling things differently. Don't know if LK is sharing (maybe grooming?) the play calling on O.

COCO and RC

I am affraid the genitals have fallen off a long time ago. We could get more noise if someone up there still had some balls.  I wonder if I can get any alumni to contribute the the new fence fund. Probably not after this post.

This would not cost anything like the new scoreboard and it would sure show better results IMO.

Ouch!

I am still not allowed near anything sharp or made from rope.

Have you tried walking in shoes without laces?

I take some comfort in the fact that there are four teams in the top 25 with Mount Union alumni head coaches. And as the Kehres quote below says, "There's a lot of football to be played."

Question of the day: The Coaches poll hasn't included ONU to this point. How valid is their poll without Northern? And Wassup? with the appeal.

reality check

Did anyone else see ESPN's Plays of the Week?  My boy Chris Berman shouting out the Ohio Northern Polar Bears for breaking the streak.

Imagine if you can, being a freshman running back, just happy to be playing college football at the D-III level, and hearing Chris Berman shout out your stats on SportsCenter for the Top 10 Monday morning!

No.  He's terrible. ::)  Did you see him at the Mount/JCU game?

First time post/ long time reader

1.  Hats off to ONU, not only a big win for them but gives hope to teams in the rest of the league that have been intimidated for the last 10 years.

2.  I take nothing away from Mount and I'm sure they'll still be the top team in the OAC for years to come.

3.  I was not at the game nor have I seen Mount play this year, but I find it very funny that as soon as mount loses it comes down to the coaching.  I'm sure there were plenty of things that Coach Kehres did that "coaches in the stands" find hard to believe but I'm sure Coach Kehres has done these same type things before you just never noticed them because you were ahead by 50 points.  My hats off to Coach Kehres and I have a feeling this loss propels the raiders to win more games in the playoffs than they would have if they had went 10-0.

ace

1 MOUNT WAS BEATEN BY A TEAM THAT PLAYED BETTER.
2. THE MONKEY IS OFF THEIR BACK.
3. LK IS STILL THE BEST COACH IN D3. 1 CLOSE SECOND.
4 IF YOU ARE IN A POSITION TO QUESTION HIS COACHING , I'D LOVE TO SEE  YOUR CREDENTIALS.
5. BW WILL BE APPROACHED LIKE ANY OTHER GAME. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS A WIN.

JK

I'll add my congrats to ONU.  My roomate from Cap married an ONU girl and now lives in Ada.  However, they were down this way in Cinci for the Steelers-Bengals game this weekend and missed all the fun (they left Saturday morning).

I guess Cap can play the spoiler role over the next couple of weeks.  MUC fans ought to become really big Cap fans the next few weeks because if they beat JCU and ONU, then MUC, with only one conference loss, still wins the title outright and there would be a three way tie for second with CAP, JCU, and ONU.

Do you think IF that happens there would be a second OAC team get in (at 8-2) and who would it be?

That STUPID loss to the Otters is going to come back and haunt us, isn't it?
