I_Love_D3_Football, actually I didn't have to go back through any logs.  That drive is one I will never forget and I think it fit perfectly in the point I was trying to make because it was recent, against the same opponent and in a situation where Mount Union was trailing in the second half.  Actually I think it is a darn good example.

Since you ask for a specfic example from me I will give you two that come to mind without much thought.  I will stick with regular season games vs. pretty good competition.  And per your request I will stick to games where it was not a mudbowl.  If you were at either of these games you should remember how we opened strictly with the run.

First example is the Baldwin-Wallace game in 2002, Mount won 28-21.  The second example is the John Carroll game in in 1997.  How's that? I'll go back a ways on that one to show you LK could come out running back then as well, even with Bill Borchert at quarterback.  4u may remember that game he was probably on the field.

You'll probably have a reason these examples don't fit what you are saying but this is the last I will say on this subject.

My point to you is not that you have a right to question something.  You do...  on your way back to your vehicle with your buddy.  Why did they do this or why did they do that?

But I think after everything LK has accomplished and all the wins and joy he has brought Mount fans, why you would choose to do it publicly like in here is beyond me.  I think he deserves better.  And whether you say you are not questioning him or not, ultimately you are.  And that I do not understand.  After all he was going to lose a regular season game sometime.

I look at the outcome and choose to point out that Mount had five turnovers (counting the botched kick to open the game that is not counted for some reason) to none for ONU and they were still at midfield in the final minute with a chance to tie the game.  That to me is what sticks out.

Certainly no harm in posting news about your team (Unless they wear Gold and Brown and call themselves "Yellow Jackets") Somebody please explain that to me, Pleeeeeeease.

Ric
The third down, fourth down and red zone numbers tell a story as well.

In 1997, with Bill Borchart at QB, the Raiders opened the Stagg Bowl with a six play scorring drive.  Five of the six plays were runs.
12-0 = 13

i_love_d3football picked the wrong forum to question the Mount coaches.  I don't think that the Mount coaching philosophy can be tied down.  I think the coaches do an excellent job of adjusting to the personel they have and the personel they're facing (which might have something to do with why they win so much).  Until Mount struggles, this coaching staff has carte blanche as far as I'm concerned.

Any criticism of their calls against JCU earlier this year, Toph?

SeventiesRaider,

I got nothing for you except this question to ponder.  Are Snell's days numbered?  26 net offensive yards.  The Jackets D is still pretty good, especially allowing Cap only 27 points and being on the field for 40 min.  They also have some pretty good players on their D.

I appologize for my first post, I got a little excited and didn't quite think through what I was writing.

I can't believe the requests for the audio tapes from the game Saturday I've had.  I don't know of an easy way to do this but I'll look into it.  I have uploaded five audio clips from Saturday's game.  I call them clips rather than highlights because from my standpoint they are not all good.  They are at www.MtUnionFootball.com

So I take it that no one is giving OTT a chance to be in this three-way tie. Lets not forget that OTT beat JCU by 31 last year, also this year this team played neck and neck with ONU 2 weeks ago. Actually ahead by one in the 4th quarter with 10 mins left to play, only to let it slip away........AND let us not forget that they BEAT CAP! Obviously, their record the past few years has people doubting them, but this team is very capable of finishing the year 8-2 and Joe Loth definitely has this team heading in the right direction. We are definitely the "Rodney Dangerfields" of the league, getting "no respect!"

Ric

OTT that's not true, the threeway tie ppl are talking about is the one at the top of the standings now.  As much as OTT has improved, and I have said so, they can not be part of that and unless you think each of those teams will lose again well then if you win out there would be a logjam at the top.

Toph

Thanks for fielding that one Ric.

I would've tried to put up 100.

Well obviously I don't think Mount will lose another game. I guess I misunderstood the whole situation. I guess what I was think is that there are 2 big games this week, ONU vs CAP and OTT vs JCU. What happens if OTT and CAP both win, second goes to who? I'm not really worried about the playoff picture, having played at OTT I would just like to see them finish in the top half of the league. I know they still have a few more years until we can start talking playoffs for them. Sorry for the misunderstanding before, didn't want to step on anyones toes.

I'll save the speculation about Snell till the post season. Since everybody brings their A game to Mount Union lets is see what happens next Saturday. I still expect a clear Mount victory, just not sure how scrappy BW will be. I think that Snell has run a respectible program till this year and the wheels seem to have come off the cart.
Let's leave Snell at BW, because I'm afraid they'll hire one of Kehres' former players and we'll have to start taking them seriously again.

Win the rest and we'll see if we can arrange that in the post-season.

I think Cap D matches up well against ONU.  They did a great job vs MU other than Garcon's 2 long passes.  The offense never gave the D a break and Cap finally wore down in the 4th quarter.  CAP's  D has allowed less than 90 pts and has 3 shutouts so far this year.  If the weather is descent and allows CU to throw the ball Cap will win.  If it turns into a smash mouth running game ONU will have the advantage.

Final CAP 24 ONU 17

What the hell is going on in Berea?  A running back playing QB...WOW long years ahead for the brown and yellow.

reality check

There are indeed two big games this weekend and they are the two you have cited.  If OTT and CAP both win then we have the logjam you were looking for but it really just means that the NCAA committee will most likely leave us all in their dust.  In the scenario you have painted, MUC gets the bid and finishes 9-1, 8-1 in the OAC.

If ONU loses to CAP and wins their final two they finish 8-2.
If OTT beats JCU and wins out, they finish 8-2.
If CAP beats ONU, they still have the game against JCU in week nine.  They could finish 8-2 or 7-3 depending on that outcome.
If JCU loses to OTT, they still have the game against CAP in week nine.  They could finish 8-2 or 7-3.

The biggest logjam could be ONU 8-2, OTT 8-2, and either CAP 8-2 or JCU 8-2 with the losing team (CAP vs. JCU) finishing 7-3 and alone in fifth place in the OAC.  There would be a lot of "if's" for that to occur though and my guess is that by muddying the water in the OAC, the 8-2 teams have no chance of making it in the playoffs.
