an indoor track has to be at least 200 meters to hold a conference championship or national meet. this is what i was told by coach brown while i ran for the raiders in 05. In fact that year Mount Union was scheduled to hold the OACs, but some other school took it over due to the 160 meter track. Paul Hesse had once told me of a plan to put a 200 meter track in with field turf in the middle to accomidate the baseball/softball/tennis teams. I not sure what ever happened to that plan, but Im sure the student apartments across from gulling put a nail in that
and we all wanna be like tommy gavin

Spent a large part of my weekend in Ada at the DIII Indoor Track Championships. What a great facility ONU has now. Hard to believe the fieldhouses that some smaller schools have these days.

An entire weekend in Ada. Yow.
Yup, right up there with the Sunday I spent in the closet Marietta calls an indoor track. Along with Case and Kent, the architect failed to realize that people might actually want to sit in stands and watch the meet, as opposed to standing in the infield dodging shot puts and pole vault poles.  ::)

Mr. Ypsi

What, you didn't volunteer as a 'shot catcher'?!

I paid my way as an undergrad as a 'javelin catcher' and 'pole vault mat'! ;D

Except my training was deficient - I ended up a 'javelin mat' and tryin' to catch those guys comin' out of the sky. :P

Genius Gone Bad

Jeff Filkovski named new head coach at Marrietta last night according to a few guys I know on theBerg staff.   Don't know how late I'm in on this one, but I think Marrietta has gotten themselves a good football coach now lets see how long he lasts.

I'm taking 3 years max

reality check

Even though news from Marietta still makes its way to the rest of the world by river barges we heard the news a couple days back.  I think he might be a good hire too.  I hope his leaving Heidelberg doesn't hamper the Student Prince rebuilding effort.  Wouldn't mind seeing the Berg continue it's push in the right direction and a positive step for Marietta as well.  We could make the entire conference another notch or two stronger with these promising hires.

reality check,

How about the fact there are now 7 ex-Thomas More guys coaching in the OAC.  Can you name them?

It just goes to show that Coach Paul knew what he was doing when he came to the Crestview Hills campus in 1999.  He brought along some guys that know how to coach.

Who knew in 2001 that a playoff team everyone thought was overrated would one day potentially have an impact in this league.

Sorry for the non-OAC post.

Three are (I think):
Dean Paul
Mike Hallet
Jeff Filkovski

Although you would really classify at least two of them from the MTU tree, not the TMC tree...

Hallet did.  Fikovski was a QB coach there for one year, but I don't know if it was under Paul or Hallett.

From the Heidleberg Football Website:
"Filkovski was the quarterbacks coach and the passing game coordinator for Hallett and Thomas More College in 2006."

I would have never thought anyone would actually want to watch indoor track either.

How hard can it be to stay out of the way of a shot put?

Anyway, the choices to make it wider would have been to tear down Dawes Library (yeah frickin right, not to mention there's only like two open areas to build new construction on campus), or fill in probably a 50 foot high ravine and change the course of the creek below.

I hope he does so well that some D-II program or something wants him in 3 years.

Or they could have made the buidling 100 feet wider, which if memory serves me correctly would have posed no real problem.

kirasdad,

I think this is more of a Thomas More tree because DP and MH both got their D3 starts at Thomas More.  But they are definitely in the MUC/Kehres coaching tree also.  I'm sure you still see "Roll Pass" that Ballard, Borchert, Smeck, et all ran..
