Another late night post--

Seems that football camp at MUC got more than a little interesting this evening--Hall and staff get points for attempting to break up the skirmish--I wonder why the kid who punched the Massillon coach didn't get arrested for assault--in fact I wonder why several of the boys who participated weren't arrested--do we have a different standard for civil behavior between human beings when they happen to be athletes?

I think that every kid that was involved should have their parents called and they should be made to come to Alliance and remove their child from the camp.  I think the involved thugs should also be suspended from playing for a significant amount of the season.

And don't anyone dare give me the "boys will be boys" line of cr@p.

Read about it here:

Heck, I missed it.  The paper must have pulled the story.  All I got was a message, "Sorry, no story available."

I was able to find the story by searching the archives--don't know if this violates copyright or not, but here is the short story:

Massillon, Euclid players get into fight at football camp
Friday, July 18, 2008
BY Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

ALLIANCE A team football camp at Mount Union College built more than chemistry Thursday afternoon. It bruised and bloodied bodies as well.

A fight between Massillon Washington High School football players and Euclid players erupted off the field and became so big that Alliance Police responded to the scene. The fight happened between camp sessions and around dinner time. It did not take place on the field.

Calls to new Tigers head coach Jason Hall were not returned. A message for him could not be left because his voice mailbox was full. A message left for Euclid head coach Mike Rezzolla was not returned.

North Canton Hoover veteran assistant coach Dick Gross saw the fight and he praised Massillon's coaching staff for trying to keep the two teams separated. Hoover's team was at the camp as well, but not involved in the scuffle.

"Euclid was the aggressor," Gross said. "They were hanging around the Massillon dorm. Some of the Euclid kids came out from dinner and there was a confrontation.

"It could have been really, really bad. Was it bad? I don't think so based on what I saw. Massillon coaches did their best to keep them separated."

Veteran Massillon assistant coach and former Tiger head coach Jack Rose was hurt during the fight. However, Rose said he was fine Thursday night.

"I'm 61, and I felt every bit of it on the bottom of the pile," said Rose, who was punched in the side of the head by a Euclid player. Rose declined to elaborate on details of the fight and deferred comments to Hall.

The Mount Union camp was a three-day team building camp, and head coaches often use three of their Ohio High School Athletic Association allotted camp days to attend college campuses, participate in 7-on-7 passing drills, practice and build team chemistry.

Regarding the Massillon/Euclid bash - what a bunch a idiots! Gotta feel for Jason Hall. Comes into LK's camp and his team gets in a free for all. BUT Euclid should feel the wrath for starting it. Who goes to a team building camp and starts a fight? Wonder what LK had to say about them returning next year?

On a MUCH, MUCH brighter note according to the Colts website: GARCON signs! It was on the frontpage of the Colts official site http://www.colts.com/

i ditto the congrats to P and Jim Ballard.....I hate to get ahead of things, but I wonder how many schools have ever had a player drafted in the NFL, a former player inducted into the College Football HOF, and won a national title in the same year?

and here are some commitments for the Raiders

According to several sources that are not the Canton Repsoitory the trouble at Mount Union between Massillon and Euclid was 99% Massillion players fault.   The comments I heard were not very positive regarding their coach.

ONU's media guide is out. Looks like an exciting season for the Polar Bears.

Ditto.

Good luck to Pierre.  I really hope he makes it.

Jim Ballard:  I listened to the radio interview and read whatever I could over the years.  He's definitely someone who represents D3 football in the best possible way.  I'm honored to have gone to the same school he did.

When you were 4 years old, didn't your mamas tell to share the ball during play? Break up Mount Union!

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

If the rest of the OAC wants the ball, they'll have to TAKE it from the RAIDERS!
