MUC/Capital replay was at 11:00 pm last night.  And again Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Because they're won't be another LK.

I'm not saying Mount will instantly become terrible, but there is no way in hell that Mount continues the year-in and year-out dominance that Kehres has led them to.

I think it's the intangibles that LK brings that will be hardest to replace.  That confidence, steadiness under pressure, etc.  The credibility that comes w/ 9 rings.  But clearly he has a plan.  Vince has done a great job w/ the D and even on O LK had relinquished some of the play calling to the young guys (Campbell when he was there and then Candle).

Dr. Acula

OK, I just read my own post and I clearly didn't make my point.  My point was that LK has a plan that will undoubtedly give MUC the best opportunity to continue this run after he retires.  However, I agree w/ hscoach that the expectation of dominance EVERY year is unreasonable.

Pierre got his first taste of the regular season today with a 23 yard KR for the Colts.  He misplayed the second half kick-off into a TB however.  Hopefully it's the first of many games to come for another OAC alum.

And speaking of OAC alums, Jamal Robertson is having a decent year in Toronto.  He leads the Argos in scoring with 7 TD's on the year.  He's got 392 yards rushing on 4.7 YPC, 24 catches for 248 yards and 8 KR's for 29.5 yards a return.  A very solid season for him after a couple slow years bouncing between NFL teams and sitting out.

Too bad for Jamal that the Argos won't be making the playoffs this year...

Kehres will retire when Gagliardi does. Someday people will be telling jokes that start with.......Joe Paterno walks into a bar and Larry Kehres and Frank Gagliardi are sitting at the bar watching a game on TV.........you fill in the punch line.  All that is missing  for LK to be a legend is a nic name for the press to latch onto. Any ideas?  Be nice now!

One thing for sure, LK will chew your face off for stupid holding penalties. He could be heard plainly across the field castigating someone for negating a good play with a holding penalty. I didnt get the number, but Im sure the kid got the message. ;)

HScoach

Hearing LK from clear across the field yell "DON'T HOLD THE GUY" was pretty funny.   One of the hidden joys of watching the JV games is hearing LK's voice booming from somewhere unexpected.

Since no one else seems to care, I'll give some love to Otterbein for recovering from an early 10 point deficit to comfortably beat the Flaming Pile.

Keep it up Cards!  I want to see to 8-0 teams square off on November 8th in Westerville.  Mount will need a good test mentally before the playoffs after slogging thru Berg, Wilma and Etta in the 2nd half.

hscoach,

sorry, man, can't agree with you there.  I hope the Otters get a loss pinned on them in two weeks.  ;D

I don't get the chance to post as often as I like so I will have to hit a couple of issues.

1. Cecil Shorts is impressive. I had him in a class his first year and he is a good kid, I did not realize how talented he was on the field. However, no way is he 6 foot - unless I am 6'2 (for the record I am 5'10).

2. The issue of when will Mounts run end; Mount should play a D2, yada, yada, yada: Look Mount was not always MOUNT. When LK started it was the Muskies (I believe) that were the hurdle. LK built the system and the team from the ground up. Just look at those 'bleak' ;) first few years. I mean come on 11 losses in his first 5 years! MUC was not loaded with "blue chippers" in the beginning. In fact I think I remember reading an article where Jim Ballard was quoted as saying that the Rowan teams he faced were "more talented teams" but that LK new how to get the most from his squad. If an OAC team wants to take the torch - then follow the road map. LK's success is well documented.
As far as the D2, D1AA stuff I will have to fall back on a quote in the Ashland paper from Lee Owens a couple years ago. It was Mount was approaching 100 straight OAC wins. Owens said that he was simply trying to find out how he could win 100 games - let alone consecutive in conference games. He also said that playing Mount was a no win - because if he lost he would not be able to recruit area kids to go to Ashland. Could Mount schedule one? Sure - but no one wins. If MUC wins (and I think they would) or even makes it a game - then the bigger school is plastered all over ESPN and ridiculed. They will lose out in recruiting and Mounts reward will be constant nagging about how they need to pull a Marshall and move up a division (I know that this is not even a possibility since they would have to move all sports up not just football).

3. RichRod - what have you done to my Wolverines!? They are not geared for the spread! LK gets it (and makes alot less than your millions!). In a 2002 interview in the Beacon Journal LK was quoted saying something to the effect 'a good coach ADAPTS his system to fit the players he has on the field. You can not force the players to change and fit the system'.

I am now done - and feel much better.

My bad: I went to Ric's site and saw that it was more BW that Mount struggled with in the 80's than the
Muskies. Regardless, the point is that Mount was not the 800 pound gorilla when LK took over. He built it over time into what we see now.

I guess I did not hit on how long it will last. I guess it will last until LK says its over.

Garcon had a 23 yard kick return today.

For those of you not familar with Mount Football "back in the day", if the "day" was when Larry was a player, not a coach, those were the days when Mount began to turn it around.  Mount Football BK(Before Kehres) = Hiram Football.

In the Fall of 1966, it didn't take much for Coach Wuske, the track coach, to convince me to quit football and just run track.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Michigan loss at home to a 1 and 4 toledo team ranks right up there with the bucks loss to air force in the liberty bowl I believe.

People are known to keep growing in college right?  Although I suspect he is probably around 5' 10" or so.  ;)

Mount's been on top for so long that people forget that Mount wasn't always the king.  If anyone has the tape of the '93 Stagg, go back and listen to them talk about "little ole Mount Union" playing on a national stage against a huge Rowan team laden with D1 talent.  Everyone forgets that Mount was a huge underdog in the '93 Stagg and on paper had no business winning that game.  It wasn't as big a shock in '96 and '98, but Rowan was bigger/faster/stronger those years too.  In the early championship seasons, only in 1997 was MUC the big favorite.

On the subject of Cecil's height, I could care less if he's 4'-10", 6'-10" or somewhere in between.  Just keep catching touchdowns ;D

OTT will try to hold up its end for the 8-0 match-up. But they still have three games to there. They have said all year that they just want to go 1-0 each week. So far thats been working. I hope they can stay focused on the task. Believe me, " They will take no game for granted " Good Luck. "Go OTT "
