Beat me to it.  I'd say they had the best at all three spots last year if you seriously look at the numbers.

The Garcon part is easy.  Hands down.

Kmic to me was the better back for a few reasons.  Beaver carried the ball nearly 30 times a game and averaged 5.5 per carry for 15 TD's and was good for 163 rushing per game.  Kmic carried less than 20 times per game, averaged 6.2 and was good for 38 TD's on 113 per game.  Yeah his per game numbers were not as high but if you gave him the ball more than 20 times a game he projects out much higher.  And 38 TD's is ridiculous.  And perhaps most importantly of all, when playoff time came, Kmic's number skyrocketted as he got more touches and played more minutes.

As far as QB, Micheli ranked second in DIII in passing efficiency, third in passing yards (the guy in first threw the ball over a 100 times more and completed one less pass than Micheli) and had a 35 to 6 TD/INT ratio.  Micheli was the highest ranked QB in most passing categories not in a balanced offensive system.  He's probably the biggest argument of the three but he's a machine and has turned into a beast of a weapon as he's developed at MUC.

it also doesn't hurt having the best coach in the nation, too

Yeah...last year was a great one as well.

'07 vs. '08:

Garcon & Shorts:  Both the best at their position.

Kmic and Beaver could be debated in '07...no one close to Kmic this season.  Kmic even admitted during this past off-season that he was not in great shape last year (getting tired as games wore on) and re-committed himself for this season...reporting in his best physical shape.

I think Micheli is a better QB this season versus last.  Sometime stats are only a part of an evaluation.  Maturity, judgment and experience play a role as well.

Let's see how far these players carry the team this season.  Many pundits felt with the lack of returning depth Mount would not be as dominant.  It will be exciting to see how this all plays out.

reality check

Beaver's carries, yardage and TD's in the playoffs below:

vs. CAP  28 for 120 and 1 TD
vs. NCC  29 for 241 and 3 TD
vs. WAB  21 for 145 and 1 TD
vs. UMHB  28 for 60 and 0 TD
vs. MUC  31 for 249 and 1 TD

Totals: 137 for 815 and 6 TD

Kmic's playoff numbers:

vs. Ithaca 29 for 217 and 4 TD
vs. TCNJ 14 for 68 and 2 TD
vs. SJF 20 for 199 and 2 TD
vs. BETH 19 for 104 and 3 TD
vs. UWW 30 for 121 and 3 TD

Totals: 112 for 709 and 14 TD

Kmic and Beaver both had ridiculously good numbers in 2007 but Beaver stayed the course in the playoffs.  Kmic's number got even better because he actually played more minutes against the best teams out there in the playoffs.  If Kmic got the ball 30+ times a game in the OAC, he'd have had 45-50 TD's and over 2000 yards.

Two great backs but I still give Kmic the edge.

The CLMS Raiders ended the season last night with a defeat (28-0) but we finished with a record of 2-5.  I guess not too many first years schools in our area are able to win 2 games in their first season so we have something to build upon for next year.  The team we beat last week ended up with a record of 4-3 so that was a nice win to get.

Just a thought on CAP/OTT....

When CAP lost last week they were ranked 9 in the polls.  And I remember the number 9 for some reason... I mean the FREAKING NUMBER 9.  God help them if they turn the ball over equal to the number they're ranked this weekend.

Mr. Ypsi

I've been holding off my Ott/Cap pick until I hear one thing - what's Assman's status?  And, if he plays, will he be 100%?  Anyone have any news yet?

reality check

I heard that Assman is allegedly playing but he looks a little different in person this week.  Every time someone yells "Hey Rocky", Assman keeps turning around.  I'll try to get more info.

Either way OTT & CRAP will be a good game. I believe Assman played a part in those 9 turnovers. Another scary stat is OTT is +10 in turnover margin and Crap is -3, OTT has 10 interceptions ( woodfork 3, Lynch 2, Wahler 2, Rienhart 1, Rowley 1, King 1) . One good thing for Crap is I don't think they will turn the ball over 21 times to match their #21 ranking since OTT is #2 in the OAC in time of possession, only:03 seconds behind MUC. Crap won't have the ball enough to turn it over 21 times. IMO, If I were you I would go with OTT. ;)

Oh gawd, you're right.  If they had 21 turnovers, I might spontaneously combust, or spiders might come out of my mouth, or....

How cute, the Crap joke.  Haven't heard that one in a few years.  You Otters are so creative.

While my question is and was sincere (and I'd appreciate word whenever anyone hears something authoritative), it seems to have had the unanticipated benefit of racheting up the smack talk! ;D

JK, you seem a little testy this week.  What's the problem?  Been listening to your old White Album?

Number nine......number nine.......number nine.........
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I think the big stat in the Cap vs OC game is how well Otterbein's rushing offense (210 ypg) can play against Cap's rush defense (82 ypg). If Otterbein's O-line can lead the way for Yates, Coy, and Rafferty, i feel like Otterbein will control the ball long enough to take this game. If Cap shuts down OC's run, i think the game could be up in the air. I'm pumped for the game. Really gonna try and be there.

Do you think Beaver would have better numbers running behind Mounts line than he did behind WW line.  Would Kmic be as good running behind another line?
