I've been holding off my Ott/Cap pick until I hear one thing - what's Assman's status?  And, if he plays, will he be 100%?  Anyone have any news yet?

While my question is and was sincere (and I'd appreciate word whenever anyone hears something authoritative), it seems to have had the unanticipated benefit of racheting up the smack talk! ;D

Still no word.  Game notes aren't out from Cap yet...

I think the big stat in the Cap vs OC game is how well Otterbein's rushing offense (210 ypg) can play against Cap's rush defense (82 ypg). If Otterbein's O-line can lead the way for Yates, Coy, and Rafferty, i feel like Otterbein will control the ball long enough to take this game. If Cap shuts down OC's run, i think the game could be up in the air. I'm pumped for the game. Really gonna try and be there.

Well, you got the stats right, so you notice that is a big "if" for the OL.  Cap's D had 15 TFL last week against JCU and gave up -28 yards rushing, despite the, um, already established offensive, um..."issues."

JK, you seem a little testy this week.  What's the problem?  Been listening to your old White Album?

Number nine......number nine.......number nine.........

Nice to have a "White Album" reference, but why you gotta provoke me, bro????

Do you think Beaver would have better numbers running behind Mounts line than he did behind WW line.  Would Kmic be as good running behind another line?

The comparison between the MUC and WWW lines are a mute point because both were great lines that dominated the line of scrimmage against 90% of the teams they played against.

On the subject of Kmic behind another line?  This season proves exactly how great Kmic is.  The amount of yards he gets when nothing is there and after contact is amazing.  The MUC O-line this season is a decent D-3 line and Nate is still dominating.  I'm not about to say the Beaver wasn't a great running back, but I've never seen a back with the vision and balance that Kmic has.  I never thought we'd see anyone near as good as Chuck Moore was, but Kmic is better.

I really hope Mount makes another run at the Stagg and gets Nate enough carries to have a chance to pass up Bowers because the coaching staff kept feeding Bowers the ball simply to get him yards.  Regardless of the score or situation, Bowers got the ball.  If LK took that approach with Kmic, he'd have had the record last year.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

CAP + WB = I must take every shot possible ;D

Sorry to say, but I'm really pulling for Otterbein this week.  I'd like to see new blood near the top of the OAC pushing Mount, makes the MUC/Otter game mean more, I was not at all impressed by Capital and want the best possible scenario for two OAC teams to make the playoffs, which would be a 10-0 champ and a 9-1 runner-up.  Go Otters!

IF the Otters make the playoffs for the first time EVER, then I will change my profile picture from my favorite Field Artillery system to a Cardinal and my favorite Vince Lombardi quote to "I LOVE OTTERBEIN!!!! CAPITAL SUCKS" for a month.
It's the least I could do...

(then I'll go throw myself into the Rio Grande to put myself out of my misery)

first part true, second part mostly exaggeration...

OldOtter

JK... I'm gonna hold u to that. A nice Cardinal would really look good on your profile

I believe OLDOTTER is correct. The rushing game will be key. OTT is #2 in Rush Off gaining 210 per game and trailing #1 MUC by 40 per game. Other than facing MUC and giving up 279 yards rushing Caps rush D has faced #7, #8, #9 and #10 rushing offenses. The only individual running back ranked in the top 6 is Lammar Hunt (Mar.) ranked #6 and they gave up 85 yards rushign against Marr.. OTT has a tandem running back system that has both Coy and Yates averaging 80+ per game, throw in Rafferty and you have trouble foe Cap. Not to mention Rafferty is ranked #2 in pass effiecency, so we can throw the ball effectivley, if we have to. GO OTT ;)

Sick Statistics:

Micheli's TD % is 13.53%
Kmic is averaging 7.35 Yards Per Carry
Shorts is averaging 21.84 Yards Per Catch

Assmann is listed as the starting QB this week on Caps website.

Colton Coy -  7.5 ypc
Eric Yates  - 5.2 ypc

Where do you find the game notes or line-up on CAPS website?

I would hope after last week's mess that Cap is fired up and pissed off.  In years past this has been a much bigger game for Otterbein and Cap has played that way.  This year is much different for both teams.  If the Otters win out they are in the playoffs.  I think Cap will play with more intensity this game than they have in the past Otterbein games because of how they played last week and how well Otterbein has been playing this year.

I think the key for Cap is not to allow Otters QB turn a broken play into a 10 or 15-yard gain.  On offense they need to do the obvious and not turn the ball over and give the Otters field position.

Bottom line CU is and should be pissed off........CU24 Otters 17

tv112

I believe both teams will be up for this game. Remember these two really don't like each other. I beleive OTT will come into this game with intensity and ready to get after it from the opening kick-off. They have started slow in the last few games and I believe this rivalry game is just what they need to get their intensity cranked back up. Rushing game will be key. Go OTT

Just something I thought I'd share with the board since I want to bash my head in over this from my game last night.  Our first year head coach, whom I've had lots of issues with all year for running offensive formations that our not part of our program's offense and playing a kid at QB who had as much potential to be a quarterback in our spread offense as doeder had to be president made me and two other coaches want to leave the field last night.  He also took my strongest linemen to play tailback and within a week he quit but that's another story in and of itself.  I digress.  For whatever reason we have two passes in our offense (both play action).  Because of that, I haven't spent any time teaching the O-line normal pass pro (since preseason anyways) because we don't run plays where that applies.  Well when the defense put 8 in the box with the free at about 8 yards deep, bringing all 8 against our dubs spread, we were getting killed.  It was 8 against 5 and a ball carrier.  He kept running between the tackles and yelling in my general direction because "our line can't block for crap".  I defended my line by stating that they can't be expected block more than one man.  Of course our play-action wouldn't work either because there was not time to roll and throw with all that pressure.  So he draws up a play on the spot, telling our wideouts to run a fade and a 5 yard out on both sides to pick on the corners.  Our quarterback, all 5'3" of him, can't even see the wideouts from behind the line and proceeds to throw grenades in the general direction of the receivers.  We completed one or two but ran that exact (made-up) play 2/3 of the game, mixing in a run every few plays or so.  We threw three INT's and fumbled away another after the catch.  Final score 34-0.  Their defense never did adjust except to flip corners to our better athletes.  Last season we were 4-4 with decent athletes that knew our school's offense.  This year we are 1-7 with better athletes that haven't been taught half of what was accomplished last year and it's hard to look past a head coach that routinely miscalls formations, does his own thing, cares nothing for his staff's opinions, etc.  It's been a tough year but we have one more game to see what this guy thinks of next.  Should be interesting.

Sorry to ramble, thought someone might have had a similar horror story on here that this would click with.

after reading a few posts, and reading about MUC and its tradition... im interested to know or see peoples opinions on the best of the best, an all time MUC team or starting line up if you will.... offense and defense.

Here's my list from this previous June (with a few minor revisions):

Here's my MUC team based on your parameters:

2 QB = Jim Ballard '93 and Bill Borchert '97 (these 2 are head & shoulders above the rest)

3 RB = Nate Kmic '08, Chuck Moore '01 and Dan Pugh '02 (another easy one)

4 WR = Ed Bubonics '93, Adam Marino '00, Pierre Garcon '07 and Darin Kershner '98 (Kevin Knestrick and Reiko Gollate, both from '97 would be next, but miss the cut)

6 OL = Jason Gerber '00, Derek Blanchard '07, Jason Lewis '06, Joe Weimer '96, Bill Rychel '00 and J.W. Wearley '98 (a ton of great O-linemen left off, including Tom Bauer '99, Matt Johnson '94, Steve Harter '83, Mike Elder '92, Josh Weber '96, Eric Safran '07)

1 TE = Rob Atwood '93 (some great TE's get left off, specifically Brian Tyla and Adam Irgang)

1 K = Ken Edelman '90 (Rodney Chenos '00 has "The Kick" and would be next)

5 DL = Mike Hallett '93, Matt Campbell '02, Justin Stickley '05, Matt Domin '99 and Rich Dine '94 (Hardest group to pick.  Pat McCullough, Buddy Wolf, Todd Braden, Jim Eismon, Jim Frink, Antoine Dillard, Johnny Josef, etc all got strong consideration)

4 LB = Jason Hall '98, Rob Rogers '93, Mark Black and Shaun Spisak '04 (The first 3 spots were no-brainers.  4th spot was hard.  DeRiggi '07 was such a physical speciman, Jesse Pearson '00 just made plays)

5 DB = Chris Kern '02, Mike Miller '03, Ross Watson '05, Sean Moore and Kris Bugara '98

1 P = this team wouldn't need a punter.  Ever.

Don't forget the great Tom Kmit from the 93 national championship team!

RC, I feel your pain.  We went 2-5 this year and my QB is about 5'3" also.  But, he is an athlete who has played QB rec ball for the past 8 years so he is the only one I had to run our offense.  Our last game our opponent did the same thing.  Ran a 5-3, blitzed the LBs in the A gaps all game and we couldn't block their Ends for crap so we couldn't run sweeps or tosses.  Eventually our QB was getting tackled before he could even hand the ball off.  Very ugly.  Next year I need to work more with O-Line and also have a QB who is quick enough to get out on the edge or we will be killed.  I lost a QB because of grades, and think that if we would have had him we probably could have been 4-3, maybe 5-2.

But, live and learn and hopefully things will get better next year.

Also, I can't blame anyone else because I am the HC.  LOL
