reality check

Last night marked the end of a very disappointing 1-8 season for my squad.  We went down 20-0 at home.  Three times we had goal to go.  Three times we were turned away.  And what game wouldn't be complete without some sort of disagreement with our head coach.  With 45 seconds left in the second quarter, we turned it over on downs at the 3 yard line.  They ran a counter which we blew up and stopped at about the 1 yard line and our HC disagreed with our defense getting a timeout with 22 seconds to go to try to force a safety for fear we give up a 99 yard play.  All the other coaches wanted was to put our kids in a position to put some points on the board!?!  Oh well, there's always next year right???

RC,

Any chance of you taking over at HC next year?

My congratulations to Greg Micheli for being a Draddy Award finalist. Quite a honor to even be considered for an award won by the likes of Chad Pennington and Peyton Manning. You've got to be a great scholar and a great athlete.

any stats on the Golub kid at QB for Mount?...I usually get there early and watch pre-game, and he throws, IMO, with the most zip and touch of any backups, and appears to have excellent arm strength.  But then again, this is only pre game, and there are a lot of pre-game stars out there....

I would not be surprised to see Shorts at Qb next year...I think it is easier to find a quick receiver than a quality QB, and inside sources say that Shorts can be, or already is the equal to Micheli.

Congrats to Micheli on the Draddy finalist spot...he already gets an $18,000 post grad scholarship?  WOW...what does the winner get??

The winner gets a nice, bronze trophy and an increased scholarship to $25,000. What a great honor.

A lot will be up in the air.  Rumors galore.  He may hightail it back to where he came from.  I'm looking at a couple other schools as well.  I am trying to get emergency certified to coach/teach at the high school.  I really want to stay where I am for the school and the kids; I love every minute of making them better young men and football players, but I gotta do what's right for the family too.  If I stay, I could make the move to varsity next year or I could see a situation unfolding where I call the offense.  Too soon to tell but I'll let you know if anything develops.  As for the next week and a half, we will all be working the varsity practices as a combined staff.

Reality Check......send me a PM if you end up being interested in alternative licensure options for OH.  It's sort of what I do with the "day job".

Clearly your priorities are correct and you got your head screwed on right. I was a non-teaching coach (Track)  for three years before I got the teaching position. I went from Assitant, to Co-Head Coach (a term that should'nt exist in the Englisg language 8) ) to Head Coach while adding a second sport and a third club sport to my resume. I'll tell anybody who asks, I'm average teacher and a good coach, but I take seriously who I'm sending out into the world.

Good luck. Just keep doing the right things and good things will happen.

And I had to wade through the paperwork and requirements of the Alternative Educator's License all by myself.

We may need to talk, I'm finishing the second year.

BTW Going to try to help out at a team diner my church is throwing on the eve of Mogadore's first playoff game. I haven't seen any of "my kids" in over two weeks and I'm really missing school.

Its soooooo goooood to see Micheli nominated for the Draddy award. When the committee looks at his academic record and majors, AND then looks at his QB rating, it will be hard to pass this guy over. Will the dreaded D3 bias factor into this decision? Inquiring minds want to know! ;) How sweet would it be to see Micheli win the Draddy and Kmic win the POY award?

Didn't Mogadore lose its last regular season game?

Yeh, East Canton was fighting to get into the playoff, Moggy was already assured a home game and didn't take a lot of risks on a muddy field. Perfect season would have been nice, but a deep playoff run would be better.

Reality:  Did you get my response to your PM?  I can't tell with this system....
