Regardless of what you think of casinos in general, Issue 6 is terrible.  If you are against casinos, the reasons for not voting for the issue are obvious.  If you are for casinos, it is bad because it locks in only one casino for Ohio, and that casino can only be on two plots of land, both near Wilmington, Ohio.  Does something that specific and limiting belong in our state Constitution?!?!?!?  Furthermore, there is a tax loophole.  Although the amendment would only approve the one casino, federal law trumps it in that Indian Reservations may run gambling and gaming establishments.  The amendment states that the tax rate is equal to the lowest amount a casino in Ohio could pay in taxes.  Indian Casinos do not have to pay any taxes.  Since there are currently no Indian Reservations, this 0% tax rate could not apply to any casinos in Ohio, and the tax rate is something like 30% for this casino.  However, I'd bet the owner of the casino would be pushing real hard to create a tiny Indian Reservation in Ohio as soon as he gets his casino.

SaintsFAN,

Of course Argossy is against the casino.  But that doesn't mean that the tax loophole, and one guy running the casino arguments are false.  Have you read the full text of the amendment?  I have, and it's ridiculous.  95% of it shouldn't even be legislation, let alone a Constitutional Amendment!

My ex-wife worked for the Ad-Agency that brought casino gambling to Lawrenceburg, IN (Argosy).  The real life  issues are...drugs, prostitution, increased suicide rates, crime, blight etc.  No joke.

I voted against issue 6 for one reason. Legislation for a single casino does not belong in the Ohio constitution.

If there could be a fair consensus for gambling in the state, then i could see this being ratified and placed in the constitution.

Props out to JCU JV squad on a great effort at Ashland last night.  Took a 14-7 lead into 4th quarter, went down 21-14 & scored with 4 mins to go to make it 21-20 & then XP hit goal post.  With 1:32 JCU had to then allow Ashland a score to get ball back & have a chance. Game tying drive ended with a pick inside Ashland's 15.  JCU matched up real well physically & athletically.

.....and, to think, we get to vote for all of these neat things.  I love democracy!

Me too.  I'm not a gambler, but I think this issue is just crazy in its language.   Why in the world does this need to be in the state constitution?  Regardless of whether you're pro or anti gambling, this issue needs voted down.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

And how did Ryan Play?  Also, I wonder if Ashland played the same kids they did against MTU JV a couple of weeks ago.  LOL

Welcome John316 Nice to see the other side of the village represented.

Still wish that they'd give Rhino and some of the other Carroll frosh some varsity reps before this season is over, because in a lot of ways it is.

I'll find out friday which "JV" team Ashland played this time.

New AFCA Poll is out.  MTU has 39 1st Place Votes.  UWW has the other 1st Place Vote.  WHAT?

I can see someone else getting votes, but the 8th Place Team in the AFCA Poll is still getting a 1st Place Vote???

to answer an earlier question, there is a fellow in the Mount pressbox every week grading the officials....I do not know who he is working for, but  he is a retired NFL ref and takes his job very seriously.  I do not know what happens after he turns in his report, but I know he is there every week and does a very detailed analysis...

Shouldn't be too hard to pick him out of the list ;D

voted yes on 6... i did this for one major reason... i live in Wilmington now and I've seen personally what the closing of DHL is going to do to that community. 10,000 people are losing their jobs. Clinton County needs the 6,000 jobs that this casino can provide. Without it, the community and county is gonna crumble.

on a happier note, really getting pumped for the game this week. just talked to my best friend and fellow OC grad who lives is Texas and ihe s getting on a 5:45 am flight outta Dallas saturday morning to come see the game. we'll all be out tailgating around 9.

GO CARDS!

OldOtter

and on another note, according to OC's website, the schooling is only selling 3,000 tickets for the game. I'm not sure how that's going to work. Guess we'll find out saturday.

I had always thought there was no such thing as a "sell out" in football.....bring in the flatbed trailers and sell more tickets!
