"I always want to have the ball first. I want to get out there and start hitting them before they hit us and I also think its big to get on the scoreboard first," said Kmic. "I was pretty fired up when we got the fumble."

This is why I prefer Nate over Moore...he wants to score ( be it so humble there's no place like the end zone) and punish people. Ya gotta love it!

RUN NATE RUN!!

I love to watch Nate run - because he doesn't sidestep or dance. He hits his spot and punishes whomever gets in the way. He is much more aggressive than I remember Moore or Pugh being. However, with the line Pugh had his senior year - it was a wonder he was ever touched.

I really hope you're not serious...

Of course I am not serious. However, the talk of Mount moving up to another level is just as ridiculous. So since Mount moving up has been discussed and dismissed ad nauseum - why not go the other way! Maybe we could start a campaign that OSU, USC, Florida, Georgia, and the rest are all ducking Mount because they won't move down a couple levels, give up the scholarships and the million dollar TV deals, enforce some sort of academic standards, and meet Mount on the field.

The point is that every year (usually, three or four times) the topic comes up "why doesn't Mount move up to....". It is a ridiculous notion. Mount is what it is: A great D3 team. Could they compete elsewhere? Perhaps. But they are a D3 team. When college football becomes British Premiere League Soccer - you have to win to stay at that level or you are moved to a lower level and forced to win your way back up - then we can discuss it. Until then, Mount Union is D3, and the Detroit Lions are Professionals. Now that would be a game! Mount 55  Detroit 6!

I've said it before...those that are tired of Mount can get better players and coaches or leave the conference or quit playing football or they can move up a level and get their brains beat in by some other team.

This is exactly why I love watching him too.  Gotta love the attitude of wanting to hit, instead of be hit.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Excellent post!  But I've gotta dispute that score.  The Pussycats DO have one quality player - Jason Hansen would get 5 FGs! ;)

I was just trying to imagine if Nate could have been in that backfield with Chuck and Dan. I don't want to worry about who's best because they were so totally different. I'll always remember Chuck hitting the hole and rumping for 90 some yards in the Stagg, Dan piling it on against Trinity and Nate appearing out of the middle of the line deep in our end of the field and taking off by himself in the Stagg years later. They were all great RBs. Opps, Nate still is.

BTW I cast my vote to leave Chuck on the front page of Ric's website.

I had a thought today about this MUC team and I wanted to share and get your opinions.

I think this Mount Union team is going to win the Stagg Bowl. After the past two weeks I have reflected a little bit from the games and I have decided: This Team Wants It.

I am not saying other teams didn't have championship aspirations or that they didn't try hard, but this team has an attitude about them that is different from the teams I have seen in the past 5-6 years. It's not arrogance, it's not a bad attitude, its just a swagger. It is a swagger that says "We lost last year, when we should have won, and it isn't happening again."

Case #1 -think last year's version gets wayyyy to hot during the JCU game (Pierre gets tossed, others get yanked by LK). This years team = Kmic pulling a defender in front of him to run him over to send a message. That message being, "we are going to take care of business on the field." Tempers were flaring during the JCU game and I saw this determination that I have not seen from a MUC team.

Case #2 - I think last year's version gets wayyyyy into this pre-game "whatever" at the Ott Game. However, this years team decided on the opening kickoff to force a fumble (supposedly) and proceed to score immediately.  I know Ott hung around for a while, but the game was over right then and there.

I think this MUC team has a determination that we have not seen for years. I don't know what the reasoning is but I have a very good guess: LK + Leaders like Nate and Greg.

I think there slogan for this year's team should be "Taking Care of Business" because that is all they seem to worry about.

Sorry for the long post  ;D

How about instead we get some of the MAC teams to come to D3! Now that has not been discussed! ;D

While not technically D3, Eastern Michigan was a member of the PAC.

Yeah, they played NAIA up 'til the 70s - used to play lots of teams who are currently D3.  (It was in an NAIA tourney game that George 'Iceman' Gervin punched out an opposing player, was kicked out of school, and [prematurely] began his HOF career.)

Being 7 miles from U of Michigan, EMU will NEVER be consistently good in the 'major' sports (though in some sports they dominate the MAC - their string of conference titles in swimming must rival Kenyon).  I've long advocated that they drop 'down' in at least football (where they will someday be kicked out anyway because of attendance minimums - through various machinations (including outright fraud, when they got caught inflating attendance by 100-200%) they've survived so far, but their REAL attendance numbers are lower than St. John's), but their natural rivals now are all MAC schools, and I don't think they allow schools to not field D1 fb teams.

I just realized we have the exact inverse of the MUC situation that keeps getting beaten to death - many of our OTHER teams are D1 worthy, but out football team sucks! :D

I don't know. That would mean the explosive Lion's Offense would have to get to about the 40 - give or take - on at least 5 occasions cause I don't see that defense forcing many TO's. Now I'll give them a couple of nice returns on kickoffs, and maybe a drive or two on the 2nd teamers.........okay - 55 to 15 sounds fair! ;D

Actually, the Pussycats just need to cross midfield - Hansen is 4-4 at 50+ this year. ;)

And I should give (potential) props to Chad Johnson (can't give full-props 'til someone throws to him) - he had a stat line a couple weeks ago of 2 catches, 138 yards!  Just in case one of their rotating qb's remembers he is on the team, how about 55-29? ;D

OK, If you guys think that Mount Union would have trouble handling the competition in the Big 10 ... what about the Mid American (West)???

EAST CONFERENCE
Akron
Buffalo
Bowling Green
Temple
Kent State
Miami (OH)
Ohio

WEST CONFERENCE
Ball State
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Northern Illinois
Toledo
Eastern Michigan
Mount Union

Not only would they help balance out the teams in the 2 conferences but NO ONE in the Mid American Conference has a perennial top 25 football program!
Mount Union can certainly compete & win games on a week to week basis in the Mid Amer so let's contact LK or the AD to get this idea in MOTION!  8)

Yup let's put a school that's twenty miles further east than Akron in the MAC West.  Brilliant on about thirteen different levels Adrian.  Noone's stopping you.  I say knock yourself out and start calling the AD.

And technically Ohio State never officially left the OAC.  They just up and walked away and never filed the correct paperwork for withdrawing.  So truth be told, the Buckeyes "have been ducking OAC schools for decades".

Okay - but only if it's indoors. Playing outside at Mount and the wind and snow would have an impact - not to mention the Lions would tremble at the very site of that trophy case! ;D

A backfield with all three would just be sick! It is pretty scary thinking of Nate's numbers behind Moore and Pugh's O-lines (Momirovic, Kinnard, Bradley....). By the way I think it would be cool if Ric's frontpage had a collage of all the greats, or each time you visited a new player was on the front. But if that can't happen - how can you go wrong with Chuck Moore?

Now, now, you never specified the date of the game! ;)  [They went 4-0 pre-season! >:(]

I'm not sure they've won a late-season game at Lambeau Field since Bobby Layne was the qb, and suspect they have a pretty pathetic record overall in cold-weather outdoor arenas.  But don't give me that trophy case jive - they've probably seen what's in the Red Wings' and Pistons' cases! ;) ;D

[And I think some of their players are old enough to know the once-Lions won four titles in the 50s. :D]
