OU...I hear you man...but I think YOU are going a bit far.  NO ONE (and I went back and read the posts) is really spouting gloom and doom about the defense.  I think it's more an objective view of watching the game.  And remember, they weren't tested AT ALL (except for part of the Ithaca game) last year until the Stagg.  I personally don't think they will be tested until the semi's, or possible even the finals.

I think you are reading more of an "what COULD happen" based on what people have seen this year.  Not what SHOULD or WILL happen, but if a team puts together a gameplan, and executes flawlessly, how that could possibly challenge Mount.

If it comes down to a shoot out, I'll take the Raiders.

I think Hobart's most difficult challenge is to score, something few teams have done well. I remember Larry saying before the 2001 season that the offense wasn't up with the defense, but that if Monty's guys didn't give up any points, we could'nt lose 8) Monty's gone but the concept lives on.

Come on guys, how many points has our D given up? After all, that's all that matters.

BTW: We're giving up 5.45 points a game

Many here have the utmost respect and admiration for Coach Larry Kehres.  If you are one, you may appreciate a find I stumbled on - an interesting read on Coach Kehres on the Law Pundit - Inveterate Blogging via a Seamless Web in a Ubiquitous World.  Yes, Law Pundit - ya da ya da.  I kid you not, I mean it, check it out:

Search the page for Kehres.

Enjoy

That's too wild.

Haven't been back to my computer all weekend... did Otterbein win saturday?

hahaha what a crazy game. 14 14 at half and then the craziest passing attack i've seen in a while. guess i missed some action on here from reading back a ways. good luck to mount the rest of the way. take care of business and represent the OAC as  you have all season!

I remember the games with Hobart . The game at Hobart was astonishing to us because there was a beer tent inside the stadium and people were drinking large beers . Never saw that before.  We were also told their star running back was gay.

We talked a while back about University of New Haven starting back up with football and my wife just got her alumni magazine.  Thought I'd share the new field they put in.  Boise State has some company.

I thought the NCAA put a rule in that essentially allowed Boise State to be grandfathered in, but required that every new turf field be green.  Guess I heard that wrong!?

Maybe they got a close-out. ::)

I thought this might be a statement against the "green" movement in this country.   ;D
They should have practiced harder.

Interesting article there about Kehres on LawPundit.  Something just seems odd about saying "Larry Kehres, Head Coach, Stanford Cardinal."
They should have practiced harder.

Best point made so far that I've seen so far re: Hobart-MUC.  I have the same worries, since our offensive isn't exactly explosive.

reality check

I wanted to vote on the poll but my selection isn't up there.  I'm predicting a walk, stolen base, wild pitch (or maybe a balk) and then suicide squeeze for Hobart's only run.  But "one" isn't on the list.

From press release:

Four Earn Special Awards as 16 Purple Raiders Named to All-OAC Football Teams

(AUSTINTOWN, OH)—Four Mount Union College football players earned special awards and were part of 16 football players named by the coaches to the 2008 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Football Teams.

Senior running back Nate Kmic (Delta/Delta) earned the Bob Packard Award (formerly Mike Gregory Award) as the conference's top offensive back, junior wide receiver Cecil Shorts III (Cleveland/Collinwood) received the Ed Sherman Award as the top wide receiver, junior defensive end James Herbert (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) nabbed the Paul Hoernemann Award as top defensive lineman, while senior defensive back Daryl Ely (Winter Springs, FL/Winter Springs) got the Lee Tressel Award given to the top defensive back.

All four were also All-OAC First Team selections at their respective positions.

For Kmic it was his third All-OAC First Team selection and he is the 18th Purple Raider to win the Bob Packard Award, named for the former Baldwin-Wallace coach.  Kmic is the OAC's top rushing this season averaging 175.5 yards per game and holds virtually every rushing and scoring record in the OAC and is 139 rushing yards from becoming NCAA Division III's all-time rushing leader.

In his first year as a starter, Shorts is the conference's top receiver averaging 108 yards per game and his 19 receiving touchdowns matches a school single season record and one shy of the OAC's single season mark.  It is the fourth straight season, fifth time in the last six years and 11th time overall that a Mount Union receiver has won the Ed Sherman Award, named former Muskingum coach and college football hall of famer.

Herbert has a conference best 13 sacks on the season, which is only three off the school's single-season record.  He leads the team with 19 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a safety, while he third on the team with 54 tackles.  He is the eighth player in school history to win the Paul Hoernemann Award, named for the former Heidelberg coach.

Ely and John Carroll's Carlo Melaragno are co-winners of the Lee Tressel Award named for the former Baldwin-Wallace coach.  Ely had a team-high seven pass breakups, is second on team with a pair of interceptions and has a fumble recovery.

The other Mount Union All-OAC First Team selections are senior quarterback Greg Micheli (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky), junior tight end Chad Reynolds (Wayne/Elmwood) and offensive linemen in senior Luke Summers (New Middletown/Springfield Local) and junior Mike Nitz (Copley/Copley) along with defensive linemen in senior Joe Millings (Copley/Copley) and junior Matt Williamson (Columbus/DeSales), senior linebacker Chas Yoder (Martins Ferry/Martins Ferry) with defensive back Roger Stewart (Pleasantville/Fairfield Union).

The nation's top rater passer, Micheli, is a two-time first team selection that won the Gregory Award last year.  Reynolds is the team's third leading receiver with 24 receptions for 371 yards with a touchdown. Summers at right tackle and Nitz at center are two of the anchors on an offensive line for the nation's No. 1 ranked offense and features the No. 1 rated passer (Micheli) and nation's third leading rusher (Kmic).

Millings with 56 tackles and five sacks and Williamson with 41 tackles and seven sacks have combined with Herbert for 25 of a nation's best 42 sacks, Yoder, a senior team captain, has 50 stops and three sacks and Stewart has 41 tackles and an interception.

Senior left guard James Bird (Minerva/Minerva) and junior defensive back Drew McClain (Newark/Licking Valley) were All-OAC Second Team picks, while junior wide receiver Vince Petruziello (Mentor/Lake Catholic) and sophomore linebacker Sam Kershaw (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) were All-OAC honorable mention selections.

Umm... in case you are wondering who the simple-minded buffoon is who picked Hobart to score more than 21pts in the OAC poll, that would be me.  :-\ ::)   I haven't had my coffee yet and misread the question.

I thought it was a poll on how much MUC would win by... I obviously scanned the question rather than actually read it completely.

On the off chance anyone cares about the opinion of someone who doesn't even read the question right... I'd say Hobart scores 7 this weekend.
