Small but Slow

I also like the idea of a pirate ship at one end of the stadium.  It would be a bit of an obstruction at field level, but would make a great attraction for the kids.http://www.buccaneers.com/rjs/cove.aspx

Anyone have an update on Ryan Renbarger's injury? Hope it not serious.

Separated shoulder....don't know his status for the Stagg.  Too bad that it happened at the end of the game.  Guess he will be like the rest of us and be classified as "day to day"....

What's up with your tagline under the image on the left of your posts?  "100s and 100s severed"???  Are you an ax murderer?

Not at all.   Just making an analogy of "Welcome to McDonald's...Millions and Millions Served"    Just my sense of humor, I guess.

I believe he was referring to your spelling of severed. ;D

Here's a link to the Tampa Bay Bucs mascot site.  Captain Fear does public appearances.  I almost got into a fight wit him at halftime of a preseason game a couple years back so I may be able to use that influence to get him to Salem.

Here's a link to the Bucs' cheereaders (formerly known as the Swashbucklers).  No reason other than nice eye candy.

Some how I don't believe we're going to see Mount's cheerleaders in those outfits anytime soon.  But if we could get all 29 to suit up in those outfits it might be a good idea to station them directly behind White Water's bench.

That was quite intentional.   The pirate has a sword in his hand.   If you look closely at the picture, it is me at the Stagg Bowl (I believe 1998).  The pirate is holding a sword.   It's all a play on words.  Somehow with Mount's record the last 15 years, I thought it was appropriate.

The word severed is quite intentional.  The pirate that I'm wearing on my sweatshirt is holding a sword.  (This picture was taken during the Stagg Bowl--I believe it was 1998).  It's all a play on words.  With Mount's record I thought it was rather appropriate.   Is my sense of humor causing problems?

I get it.  That's not necessarily a good thing, though.

Not to me.  I wondered whether or not it was deliberate (the problem with written vs. face-to-face communication), but I assume that was the origin of the 'ax murderer' question.  (Of course, now neither of us knows how rc was interpreting your original intent! ;))

The idea of the machine being represented by a purple chicken does not project the image I believe you want your football team to have.   If the little kids love him then go to disneyland.  This is football.   Most first time visitors I have brought to a MUC game have asked  Whats with the purple chicken?  I have gotten tired of trying to give a civil answer.   A warhawk projects the image of a ferocious bird of prey.  We offer as Raiders a purple chicken?   Something isn't quite right with this image.   Now the USC trojan on horse with sword projects a much better image.   I bet the little kids love him just as much.     I shouldn't deal with such minutia or is it minutiae?

I agree with you that MUCAW doesn't project a very ferocious image, but please don't refer to the macaw as a purple chicken.    We have had someone as a pirate that did a great job.   It would be nice to have a character like that permanently.

Another question is:    Is there such a thing as a warhawk?

Re: Mascot discussion

At least you guys don't have a mascot "costume" like we now have at Hope.  We used to have a student who dressed in a realistic portrayal of a Flying Dutchman from WWI.  However, a couple of years ago, the student council organization ended up voting to change this and now we have a rather ridiculous, oversized head (and quite ugly looking I might say) rendition of an old Dutchman.  Quite unbecoming and embarassing let alone not projecting a very powerful image if you believe mascots are to do that, depending, of course, on just what a school's nickname/mascot is. ;D  Adding insult to injury (cringe :o ::), they spent some $5000 for this piece of trash of a costume.  :( :o ;)  So take heart colleagues! :)

You old guys are killing me with the quotes.  Type the new stuff outside the brackets....OUTSIDE!!!  Old people are so cute.   ;D ;D ;D

I got the Mickey D's reference but still thought it was a mistake, albeit a funny mistake.  I'm not sure what I think now that I know it was on purpose.  I'll get back to ya.  ;)  I don't have any problems with it, just trying to find out if it was unintentional or intentional.

We're not calling it "eye candy" any more.  The PC term for 2008 has officially been coined as "talent".  Looking at the Swashbucklers is just a "talent evaluation".

Re: Mascots

So many schools have gone away from fierce-looking mascots.  The administrations seem to be leaning towards cute and cuddly to appeal to the kiddies as opposed to anything that could strike fear or potentially offend anyone.  Another example of the "softening of America" really.  ONU unveiled a cuter, more lovable polar bear this year.  The MUCaw and other "soft" mascots are the way things are going.  And even if they gave it a makeover, you'd get a big bobble-head looking cartoony pirate with exaggerated features before they'd ever go with something scary or mean looking.
