You old guys are killing me with the quotes.  Type the new stuff outside the brackets....OUTSIDE!!!  Old people are so cute.   ;D ;D ;D

I got the Mickey D's reference but still thought it was a mistake, albeit a funny mistake.  I'm not sure what I think now that I know it was on purpose.  I'll get back to ya.  ;)  I don't have any problems with it, just trying to find out if it was unintentional or intentional.

We're not calling it "eye candy" any more.  The PC term for 2008 has officially been coined as "talent".  Looking at the Swashbucklers is just a "talent evaluation".

Re: Mascots

So many schools have gone away from fierce-looking mascots.  The administrations seem to be leaning towards cute and cuddly to appeal to the kiddies as opposed to anything that could strike fear or potentially offend anyone.  Another example of the "softening of America" really.  ONU unveiled a cuter, more lovable polar bear this year.  The MUCaw and other "soft" mascots are the way things are going.  And even if they gave it a makeover, you'd get a big bobble-head looking cartoony pirate with exaggerated features before they'd ever go with something scary or mean looking.

WHEW!........... had me scared for a second there RC, thought you were going to say they went to the LOVEABLE CARE BEARS!  ;D
RE: MUCaw this year, i believe is a former player that wanted to do the job and might add has been a blast with the antics compared to previous purple magpies! ;) The Pirate ship would be a blast...no pun intended ;)

Re: Swashbucklers aka Talent
yeah TALENT......right, LOL, ....that TALENT would change Howie's show from "DEAL OR NO DEAL"  to just "DEAL" ::) ;D

We'll see if Pam Ward can get his name right.

HMMMM, and if KMIC is too hard to say i can only wonder how terribly Micheli's name will get butchered  ::) seeing that ESPN hasn't pronounced them much recently! :-\

PS
Think maybe HScoach could help with translations in the booth??  ;D

Has anyone else noticed that since his back surgery, seventies has been increasingly antagonistic?  They must have sliced your "ornery" nerve in the operation.   ;)

Wife gave me a copy of "Grumpy Old Men" for my birthday. I prefer to think of myself as feisty
Classic movie.  I recommend it to everyone, especially anybody from Minnesota.  The sequel is not as good, but some may like it too.

Here's a link to the Tampa Bay Bucs mascot site.  Captain Fear does public appearances.  I almost got into a fight wit him at halftime of a preseason game a couple years back so I may be able to use that influence to get him to Salem.

Here's a link to the Bucs' cheereaders (formerly known as the Swashbucklers).  No reason other than nice eye candy.

Some how I don't believe we're going to see Mount's cheerleaders in those outfits anytime soon.  But if we could get all 29 to suit up in those outfits it might be a good idea to station them directly behind White Water's bench.
D3football.com needs a cheerleader section like this.  Excellent.  ;D
MtUnionfootball.com needs it too.

"All species of macaws have very powerful, large beaks and large macaws are capable of destroying household furnishings and can potentially cause considerable harm to both children and adults. They tend to be loud: in the wild their voices need to carry over long distances."

This ain't no chicken.

Another question is:    Is there such a thing as a warhawk?

Whitewater's nickname, Warhawks, at one time used a Native American (Indian for you older people) as their mascot. Their helmet of the 60's, which is how far back I go and can remember seeing with my own eyes, had a bust of a Warrior holding a raised tomahawk.

I'm not sure how long ago it was changed, but it was many years before the recent NCAA ban on images pertaining to Native Americans.   Rather than completely change the name and mascot, it was decided to keep the name, but change the mascot to a bird - for many years they simply used a block W as the logo, later a bird landing, and the recent bird head.  Interesting, before Warhawks, UWW athletic teams were known as the Quakers.

So, to answer your question, I don't know  ;)...but Wisconsin is known to many mythical creatures, like Paul Bunyun's ox, Babe, and the Rhinelander Hodag.  You make the call...

regard less of what you say it is, It still looks like a chicken.  And  I've alwAYS FEARED the terrible macaw bird.   History is full of its terrible image.   and chickens are tuff didn't you watch Roots?   This issue is closed for me.  That is my opinion.   The hawks better have an outstanding defense,  cause the Raiders can score and score and score.   Go Raiders  chicken and all

I don't think you were really trying to say this, but I don't think a scary looking mascot will really do anything to "strike fear" intto anybody but the kiddies that the cuter mascots will attract.  I don't think it has to do with fear, but rather has to do--as most things do--with money.  Having a cute and cuddly mascot that the kids enjoy will make the kids want to come back.  In order for the kids to come back, mom and dad have to buy tickets for both parent and child.  When the child is there, they will rarely go 3 hours at a football game without needing something from the concession stand.  As much as stadiums, presidents, athletic directors, owners, etc. talk about wanting to create a safe, fun envioronment for the whole family, they often are doing so while knowing that there is an economic benefit.

What the heck are we doing debating mascots and money?  There's a game this weekend!  I'm calling in a little bit to get my tickets and will see y'all in Salem!

RC- Sorry about the bracket thing.  I lost the end bracket somewhere and wasn't paying attention, I guess.  Talent evaluation was the true purpose of that link.  One of the girls works out at the YMCA near my house.  For some reason the treadmills in the rows behind where she works out are always busy when she's there.

Which girl?  I may have to renew my YMCA membership.

The word severed is quite intentional.  The pirate that I'm wearing on my sweatshirt is holding a sword.  (This picture was taken during the Stagg Bowl--I believe it was 1998).  It's all a play on words.  With Mount's record I thought it was rather appropriate.   Is my sense of humor causing problems?

Doesn't bother me a bit.

But then again, I'm not as sensitive as most folks around here ;D

RC,

That is exactly why we did the little Post Patterns training session at our get together last Friday night.

I haven't seen a quote by HurfMUC yet, so there is no telling whether the lesson sunk in or not.

If I had to guess, it was long since washed away by the end of the night.  Darn, we'll just have to repeat it in Salem this Friday.

Anyone have an update on Ryan Renbarger's injury? Hope it not serious.

Separated shoulder....don't know his status for the Stagg.  Too bad that it happened at the end of the game.  Guess he will be like the rest of us and be classified as "day to day"....

Thanks for the update!

Exactly.  You touched on my only beef with MUCaw (and the off-field "talent" too, btw).  There is a game going on.

I think MUCaw is great to have around, and often gives me a chuckle.  And I love the push-ups after scoring.  I get a little annoyed when either distracts my attention from the game.  Sometimes it seems like MUCaw has been "programmed" to offer a diversion late in the game, as if football won't be enough entertainment for us.  (I can see your point about the economics of it.)  I'm there to watch the game.  I'm just grateful for seats high enough to focus on the real deal.

Come to think of it, people getting more excited and animated over foam footballs in our faces during game time is an irritation too.

When's "Grumpy Old Women" coming out?

seventiesraider

Take this for what it's worth, but the only time I called Salem for tickets I got the worst tickets I ever had there. If we are really on the west side it doesn't matter because those stands will be half empty anyway. All this priceless advice from someone that stands on the hill beyond the south zone no matter how good the seats are.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...
