Wow!!!!   This was Mount football at it's best.  This win was huge for the program because UWW WAS THE MORE TALENTED team overall.  Last year it was the opposite.   One fumble and it almost cost the game.  LK did a great job as did the whole staff.  To find a way to outlast a worthy foe and play it to the end like a game of chess was awesome.  For all you people who say how can you watch a program always win, it is games like this that you love.  Besides, Mount has lost 5 times since 1996.  All Mount fans ENJOY the 10th NCAA championship and special thanks to the team.

congrats to mount union.  first i would like to thank mountfan for the breakfast spread that you put out during the tailgate.  nothing better than biscuits and gravy with beer in the morning.  it was nice to see you guys again.

raigerpa, you are correct, we were thinking the same thing at the game, what is taking so long.

i am not sure if mount was the better team.  they won and that is all that matters.  the game changed on the phantom roughing the punter call which was brutal and the interception return.  i am sure you guys never thought anyone would be able to shut down kmic like that.  i believe that mount won the game because they outcoached uwww early and took advantage of things they saw on film.  after the first quarter, uwww made adjustments, but it was too late.  they did not take advantage of the opportunities they had.

Another great performance for the Purple Raiders, once again proving their dominance in Division 3 football.

Congratulations Mount Union

I know they are a reloading team...who replaces Micheli and Kmic next year?

Congratulations to the Mount Union Purple Raiders on being the 2008 National Champions. They are an amazing team, with amazing players, and amazing coaches. They came out and punched UWW in the mouth early and showed the heart of a champion. Enjoy the championship Raider fans. You have a lot to be proud of.

Do any of you think the two missed UW-W FG's would have had a bearing on the outcome of the game i.e. how the rest of it "played out" (aside from the obvious fact that those would have won the game for UW-W assuming that all the other scoring remained the same as it did for the remainder of the game?  Just curious as to your thoughts.

Cute, bleedpurple.  That's obvious, but the question was asked in that way i.e. speculative and as to what people were thinking at the time it happened in respect to what was developing in the early second half.

Congratulations and well done to the MUC team and their fans, and a tip of the hat to Whitewater as well. Very good game for the unaligned fan to enjoy. When I look at how young each of these teams was I believe it's going to be very scary for the rest of D3 next season.

No disrespect intended. I should have just let the Mount fans answer. As  UWW fan, I don't want to take away from their championship (not that it would) by doing the coulda, woulda, shoulda. I do think it's a valid question for Mount fans, neutral observers, and even other UWW fans to look at. Besides, I shouldn't type with my mouth full (the bitter taste of crow).

Since Mount fans, and by extension the rest of us OAC fans, have "been there, done that," (no disresepect intended to UWW or anyone else), I started looking for new and unique angles.  I had a thought that this might be the first MUC class to win the title as Frosh, Sophs, and Sr's.  Alas, I was wrong.  The guys who played as Sr's in the '00 season also won as Fr, So, and Sr's.

Here is another "amazing" MUC stat.  One that really drives home the point of how dominant they've been...

Since the end of the '96 season, no player from MUC who played for all four years (consecutively) of his career left with less than a pair of NC rings, and 7 of those classes, including 6 in a row (98-03) and this year's seniors, left with three.

The Daily Dose reports that Mount could (should?) play UWW the first week of '09 and '10.  Perhaps you overdosed on Stone Station or are just stoned at Stone Station.  Will Daily Dose cancel Mount's 1st game next fall in Pittsford, NY?

I tried to post to Daily Dose but it doesn't recognize my password (same as I use here) and the "Forgot your Password utility does not work)

Anyway, LK did tutor WWW in 2002 and 2003.  I believe LK is 5/1 versus WWW.  Do the Warhawks need more tutoring?  "Fool me once. Shame on you.  Fool me twice. Shame on me."  ;)

reality check

Didn't listen much to Pam Ward during the game but I'm watching (listening) again to see what gems I missed the first time around.  How about how she asked for clarification of what an "earhole" was and in her asking made it clear that she wasn't looking for an explanation for the audience.  She clearly had no idea what an "earhole" is altogether.  I loved the response though.

Q: "What's an earhole?"
A: "It's when you earhole somebody."

Awesome response.

reality check

To start the game they showed Leipold's record on an ESPN graphic.  They had him at 27-2 which by ESPN math is apparently .955 WP.  My math says it's .931.  Either way, Kehres came into this Stagg Bowl with the lower winning percentage.  It's only the second time that's ever happened to LK in a Stagg as far as I know.  Bonus points to whomever knows the other time.  So with the win, LK bumps up to 275-21-3 or .929 and Leipold fell to .900 so LK is once again the winningest coach in the NCAA.

Yes, but your financial advisor or D3 guru will tell you that "Past Performance is No Guarantee of Future Results".  Well, maybe just your financial advisor.
