ESPN.com's reporting that the Denver Broncos have asked New England for permission to speak with Josh McDaniels.  Coincidentally I love how teams are always "asked for permission" to speak to coaches which is rather irrelevant considering teams are not allowed to deny teams from talking to assistants according to current rules and bylaws.  It's all a formality and seemingly much ado about nothing.

It looks like there are about 5 coaches set to interview for the HC position in Denver so McDaniels has plenty of competition but this seems like a great place to get his first shot if given the opportunity.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Ric to change the main picture.  He's way too busy on the "new job" to worry about such trivial matters. ::)

May I ask---what is Ric's new job?

It has also been reported that Detroit has asked permission to talk with McDaniels as well for their head coaching vacancy.  Frankly, I'd rather see him at Detroit than Denver - perhaps less of a "hot-seat" to get his feet wet as a head coach.  It will be interesting to see who/what/where happens with all these coaching vacancies.

BTW, I was disappointed that Cincinnati could not quite do it against Virginia Tech last evening in the Orange Bowl.  Cincy is a good team and played pretty well and while they've come a long way in the last 3-4 years (with Dantonio and now Kelly), they still have some additional ground to cover.  Yet like Rutgers, they have become much more competitive.  They looked good.  Still, VT has talented players and Beamer is a good coach.

Also, I was kind of surprised to see that Kelly appears to have put on quite a bit of weight in the last year or so.  If he's not careful, he'll "balloon out" like some of the other head coaches have done over the years.  He needs to get on that "Nutra? Food Plan" that Dan Marino and colleagues are promoting on TV!

Randy Lerner has reportedly asked Ohio State for permission to interview Woody Hayes for the Brown's Head Coaching job. When told Mr. Hayes was deceased, Lerner reportedly stated, "Oh I didn't know, I've been out of the country." ;)

If he were to come to Detroit I'd think you'd have a package deal.  There's nowhere for Cassell in Denver but Detroit needs someone for the future.  Orlovsky's not the answer and Kitna's best years were in Cincy.  Less pressue in Detroit yes, but he'd have a very thin sliver lining to look at.

ESPN.com reports that McDaniels interviewed today with the Browns.  Of course, the article references the fact that McDaniels is an Ohio native and played quarterback at JCU.  Since he was known primarily as a receiver I wonder how his fellow Patriot coach and former college quarterback Nick Caserio feels about McDaniels QB days at JCU considering he was the one throwing Josh passes.

You gotta love that that Wikipedia does a better job documenting historical fact than the fine folks at ESPN when it comes to anything and everything DIII.

Just ask Landon Fletcher.   ::)

Seriously contemplating buying some last minute tickets to the Fiesta Bowl.  I've been a Buckeyes fan as long as I knew what football was but I've yet to see a Buckeyes game in person.  Looks like tickets are still readily available at well below face value.

Since I'm a glutton for peer pressure I'm asking my friends on here.  Is it worth $50-100 to see the Bucks take on the Longhorns?  (And I'll still take answers from you old geezers too despite the fact "peer pressure" can't exist by definitition)   ;D

I've seen in person about 1500 football games of all sorts and on all levels, and  with one exception no ticket to any of them has cost me as much as $50. In my view there are so many potentially good games to be seen without expense or inexpensively that I doubt that I would pay $50 to see that game.

RC - I was there in 2005 when OSU played Notre Dame.  Of course, that was a game they expected to win, and did rather convincely.  I had a great time at the game.

I say go for it, but don't pay more than $50.  Maybe you will bring them some positive mojo.

I agree with your regarding McDaniels and the Detroit situation.  As far as Detroit, we "gotta start somewhere" and there is only one way to go i.e. up?! ;D ::) :o  I think?!!!  McDaniels was mentioned in the Michigan papers as being a former Mich State grad assistant also.  Anyway, it will be interesting and exciting to see where he might end up.

BTW, I also agree with the others.  I think you should go and enjoy the bowl game, but don't pay any outrageous ticket prices.  I'm sure there will be some reasonable low tickets to be had there.  Enjoy it, if you go.

Not every bowl game can be like the Stagg where you can take a whole cub scout pack for $50. I'm not much of a Buckeye's fan but if there wasn't a plane ticket involved I'd consider dropping that much

RC, if you want to go and the ticket price won't break the bank go for it.  The experience should be worth it regardless of the outcome of the game.

You are right, although some bowl games are - those who give out tons of free tickets (like the Motor City Bowl has at times and say, the EMU/CMU game @ EMU, but oops! - the latter is not really a bowl game ;D ::)

Yes, that sounds great (especially if you are already there and no cost for the airline ticket!). ;) ;D
