PurpleSuit  and other,

I watched the films of the out of state recruits.  Here is what I think.... If anyone cares.

Mike Murphy- Athletic but much to slow and small.  He will never play at Mount Union, my guess in he would never be more than a backup at Wooster.  He should have stayed in Indiana.

Grade- Hanover

Jasper Collins- BEST OF THE GROUP! Rangy Athlete and has great Feet.  I would like to see him open up and run more but does appear to be tough.  He has a chance but it will take some time.

Grade- W&J

Zack Hayward- I'm not great with QBs.  I like to watch game tape and lots of it when grading a QB.  I also want to know them see what type of leadership skills they have, how smart they are and so on. Off of this little film he appears to runs ok but looks a little small and look like he has a bit of shot put type of motion at time.

Safe Grade- Musky
However he might someday start at Mount hard to say.

Clarence Sconiers- Bad Takeoff, no hand placement, not very physical, not a smooth athlete, looks smallers than 6'2 220.  He will NEVER play at Mount Union.  Not sure if he could play at any school in the OAC.

Grade-  Hiram

Matthew Mattox- Big, Athletic, good feet, however he need to get much strong, and he's not playing against much talent in his film.  With that said he has a chance.

Grade- JCU/BW/COW/CAP

Short.......I know you are a "Wooster guy" but please...........the percentage of backups at Mount that would/could/should start for Wooster in any given year would be a VERY high number.  Now that doesn't mean that the incoming recruits will even rise to the status of a legitimate backup at Mount, but I would guess one or two will do at least that.

Oh wait........most of them wouldn't get INTO Wooster........so there is THAT.

Short / Purple / etc:

I looked at these as well and have some comments.
- I can't say Murphy looks small - but he is not fluid. His movements look awkward and slow. Had some okay moves but may be too slow to use them in college. With Mount's talent he may want to get used to the JV squad.
- Collins has some nice moves but does not show break away speed. Looks like he has good hands and does not look afraid of contact.
-Hayward does not look small but he looks frail. 6-4 is okay if your 215 or more but this kid is listed at 170 and looks like that was with pads on. He has an odd motion and does not look comfortable in the film.
-Sconiers did not seem to make contact with the ball carrier in about 60% of that film. I saw him overpursue and then give chase the other way but seems to avoid contact. Not a good sign for a DE.
-Mattox looks like he has some good tools (good foot speed, technique, etc.) but he needs to hit that weight room hard and firm up.

Purple thanks for the youtube links - +k!

Ya know I never understood the whole Wooster (or NCAC) academic superiority thing. I did my MA program with 2 Wooster guys that were pretty much a waste of space and had 1 Wabash and 1 Earlham guy in my PhD program that were not exactly Einsteins. I also did some adjunct work at an NCAC school and graded a number of papers that if I had written them at Hiram College (OAC when I was there) would have been returned with a big fat REWRITE across the top. I never found the students to be more enlightened - just more entitled. Well, actually a lot of students at OAC schools are entitled as well - they just never seem to go out of their way to tell you how entitled they are. I gave one kid at the NCAC school his paper back with a low C and he proceeded to tell me his father was an attorney (the paper was for a CJ course), was his advisor on the paper and would be contacting me to find out what was wrong with the argument. That had never happened to me before and has not occured since. Funny thing is I am still waiting for the kids dad to call.

Sorry to disappoint you.  Been on these boards for 3 plus now.  But anyway, Im not hard to find.  Unless your Ytown friends need something to do.

Baum is a quality backup.  Doesnt have the mobility or field presence of Whalen yet but with the their supporting WR's/RB's and that D it still could have been possible.

SaintsFAN

No sweat, I'm glad you're not just on here since they started winning.   I forgot Pat had erased a bunch of posts to free up some space (don't really know computer lingo --- I'm just a Logistics Sales Guy).   I don't have any friends in YTown -- you read it wrong.   If I did, I don't think I'd admit it in public.

Stick around and we'll wager in preseason of 2010.  Maybe someone neutral, like hscoach, can hold the cheese to make sure there's no stiffing going on.

Short --

Looking at that Murphy kid's numbers, it sure looks like he's a big-play guy.  Are you sure you aren't thinking of a different Murphy?

Funny, but made me wonder.  Has Timberlake done anything beside pushing the limits of broadcast television censors to keep himself relevant for the past five years or so?  At least this time there wasn't a wardrobe malfunction this time.  Before long he'll surface on the gay porn scene.

ha!  Did you see him when he hosted the ESPY's??  He was pretty funny.

No prob.  Im usually in the UAA forum with Major.  Its been good to see the CWRU rebirth from the begginning.  Funny how several JCU grads coach at Case and vis versa.  The scheduling is long overdue.  Both these two should rotate with BW and play at the Stadium.

Im hopeing we still have the summer scrimmage.

Yeah!  Thanks to the "powers that be" for updating the D3football main page!  We now have "header" pictures that show MUC in action this year in the Stagg Bowl.  I know it wasn't a big deal, but I was getting tired of seeing pictures of a game we lost.

hscoach,

You should bring the fam down to the "Battle of Ohio"... Indians vs. Reds later this month.  They are in town on May 22-24

I'll be there with my Family.  Wife bought me tix for my birthday (May 23rd).  We're parking over by the Hofbrauhaus (might enjoy a few fine german beverages beforehand) and walking over the purple people bridge to the game.  Couple of the wife's cousins will be there as well (although I don't think Ceplauch will be one of them).

JK,

I don't think Cepluch ever leaves Trenton.  I haven't seen him since his wedding... and before that it was in 2003 for my wedding.  We'll talk beforehand to see if we're in the same area.  I usually pregame at Beer Cellar nearby and ride the boat over to the game.

Also... have you heard about the book being written about Terry Malone?  I'm being interviewed for it coming up shortly about my senior season (he won his 300th in week 8 that year).  Pretty cool to think my high school coach is going to be the subject of a book.

hscoach --- boo!  Though I certainly understand.  What do you do after the college football season is over and you are left with the Browns?  The only way they are 90% is if you count the losses!

I haven't followed the Browns since they fired Marty.  So after I get back from our rightful trip to Salem, I either work on the race car or hibernate until next football season.

Didn't the Browns move to Baltimore in '95?

Saints- I haven't watched the ESPY's since it became a Hollywood social event.  Call me a homophobe, but I like my sports programming without all the short little show biz types.

Congrats to former Raider Bill Rychel:

News Release By: Skip Snow, SID

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- NDC Football announced today that Bill Rychel has been hired as the program's first offensive coordinator.

Rychel comes to College Road from Ohio Northern, where he coached for three seasons (2006-08), most recently as the Polar Bears' co-offensive coordinator.

"Bill is a natural fit for this position and for our program," said NDC Head Coach Adam Howard. "Our focus was to hire someone who would take pride in building our program, someone with a strong recruiting record, and someone who could take ownership in developing our offense."

Bill Rychel has been named NDC's offensive coordinator.Prior to his time at ONU, Rychel was the offensive line coach for Tri-Sate (now Trine) in Indiana, in 2004 and 2005. Before that he was the offensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator for Coe (Iowa).

As a player, Rychel had an outstanding collegiate career. He was a four-year letterman at Mount Union from 1997-2000 and helped the Purple Raiders win three national titles (1997, 1998, 2000). At guard, Rychel earned an All-America award (2000) and was twice-named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference. The standout lineman was also named Academic All-OAC in 2000. In his tenure as a player, Mount Union went 54-1.

In 2008, Ohio Northern averaged 19.5 points per game on 274.2 total yards per game. The Polar Bears averaged 160.9 yards on the ground and 113.3 in the air. In 2007, ONU averaged 23.1 points per contest on the strength of 338.8 yards per game.

Rychel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education from Mount Union in 2001 and received a master's degree in teaching from Coe in 2004.

The development of a Football program at Notre Dame College was announced on Nov. 25. With their development of a team, Notre Dame becomes the only scholarship football team in the metropolitan Cleveland area.
