Small but Slow

This message board has to rank as one of the best and most diverse on the web.  Where else can one discuss OAC football, football in general, a variety of political, societal, and educational topics, and expand one's vocabulary on a daily basis?

Wow.  Those words are way too big for me.  Back to football:

(ALLIANCE, OH)—Hudsonville (MI) High School senior Zak Hundley has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.

Hundley, a 5-10, 200-pound linebacker, was an all-conference and all-academic selection for coach Dave Durham at Hudsonville High School.  Hundley plans to study exercise science and is the son of Pat and Wendy Hundley of Hudsonville.

(ALLIANCE, OH)—Edison High School senior Jesse Byron has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.

Byron, a 5-10, 210-pound linebacker, was an all-Ohio, all-district and all-conference selection for coach Mike McKenzie at Edison High School.  Byron plans to study engineering and is the son of Brenda and Randy Byron

(ALLIANCE, OH)—Marysville High School senior Kevin Bennett has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.

Bennett, a 6-2, 260-pound offensive lineman, was a two-time all-conference, all-district and team captain for coach Jeff Gafford at Marysville High School.  Bennett is an undeclared major and the son of Kevin and Mary Bennett of Marysville.

(ALLIANCE, OH)—LaBrae High School senior Bryan Watkins has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.

Watkins, a 6-1, 210-pound linebacker, was an all-Ohio and a two-time all-conference and all-district selection for coach Bill Borehn at LaBrae High School.  Watkins plans to study marketing and is the son of Brenda Grooms of Newton Falls.

(ALLIANCE, OH)—Oxford Talawanda High School senior Noah Krall has committed to attend Mount Union College and compete on the football team this Fall.

Krall, a 5-11, 200-pound linebacker, was an all-Ohio, all-conference, all-district and two-time conference defensive player of the year for coach Michael Wright at Talawanda High School.  He is the school's career tackles leader and also holds a school record for tackles in a game (24).  Krall plans to study business administration and is the son of James and Jene Krall of Oxford.

Small: In the 30s and 40s there was a radio quiz show called "Information Please", in which a panel of famous polymaths tried to answer on the spot on the air difficult questions sent by the home audience. If they could not, the sender received a substantial prize.

Not saying its better than the OAC page... but if you guys have some time... read up on the Liberty League Page in the Eastern Region.  Those cats truly bring up diverse topics and add humor to it.  Affectionately known as the LLPP .... Kirasdad can attest to the material in there.

One thing, you have to speak in 3rd person when you post in there.  Realitycheck should be pretty good at this...

RC being interviewed in HS/college following a game:

interviewer (goes by Ronnie):  "Paul, why do you think you are so prepared to dominate your opponent??"

RC:  "Well Ronnie... Paul Schreel only knows one speed.  Practice, walk throughs, games --- its all the same.  Paul Schreel is gonna bring it.  If you are gonna step on the field against Paul Schreel, you better have your "A" Game."

LOL!  "Paul is getting angry!"

Frank- I recall reading about that show while researching quiz shows for a report in a broadcast history course at MUC.  If I recall correctly there was a scandal involving one of the polymaths and a contestant at some point.  At the time the prize awarded was significantly more than the panel was paid for their participation.  That would probably be the only way I would have won.

SaintsFan:

Are you following Badin's Baseball season?  They are playing for the state title on Saturday morning...  at the new park (huntington bank field) at 10 am.  I guess it is being broadcast on the web.

Listen Niehus, Paul Schreel doesn't have time for you.

And I don't know why you have this sudden man-crush (I believe your type calls this a bromance) but your advances are unwanted.  I'm happily married with a wife and kid.  I know you Badin guys have issues but this is too much for me.

Hit on someone else SaintsRam.   ;D

Small: Thanks for the piece of history - a piece with which I was unfamiliar.

Seventies-

Just got my card in the mail today. Looking forward to telling people "Ya, this was the OTHER receiver." Or more appropriately, "I was the other receiver."

Thanks!

As you probably know, Bear Bryant was the other end at Alabama to Don Hutson.

Sometimes I think Wikipedia exists so that I can look up half the people or things Frank references in his posts. ;)

Did you look up "Don Hutson" and "Bear Bryant " together? Was I right?

frank uible

I googled "Eureka College McKinzie Field" and came up with a website which stated that Reagan played on that field. According to another source that field was opened for football in 1913.

No I looked up Don Hutson.  Now I know who the "first star receiver of the NFL was".  I already knew a thing or two about the other guy.
