Eagle, I agree with you whole-heartedly.  As is always the case, fans end up complaining exactly like this.  "We should have gotten in!  They didn't deserve to be in any more than we did!!"  You hear it every year and it won't change.  The fact is, the very numbers that the committee is supposed to go by said if an OAC team was going to get in, it would be Capital.  It would have never even come down to head to head meeting or who lost to who in common opponents.  Let's move on with our lives and hope Cap does well :)
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

I know this really wasn't part of the "formula", but as significant and amazing as we in the OAC put on ONU's victory over Mount, the bottom line is that CAP beat ONU head up.  If I were a PB fan, I don't think I would bitch TOO much, because the team that got in instead of us, beat us.  PERIOD.

To be honest, as a Mount fan I would have loved to see ONU to get in, and for us to get a chance to play them again.  I would bet my stock of purple suckers that the result would be different.

I think the appeal will be dropped in Ada...  ;)

I'm not in the know on this at all but I would think that the appeal wouldn't be able to be dropped now.  It's no punishment now aside from the contributions it made to ONU's loss to JCU.  Like I said, I don't know one way or the other whether they would be able to drop it.  It just feels wrong and seems like they should have to wait to see how the appeal plays out.
And for the students, another full drawer of clean undies!

Congrats to Capital.  With any national attention Cap is about to get, they may have to rethink their "crusaders" nickname.  Wheaton did.  They changed to "thunder."  Pillaging the holy land isn't as PC as it used to be.

Congrats to Cap on making the playoffs !! They deserve every bit the chance for post season play. ONU has got plenty to be proud of with this season and what they've accomplished. As a Mount fan and an OAC fan, i'm glad to see we have the caliber of teams to rank our conference at or near the top in all of Division lll football.    For now, the second season begins, here's hoping for another Mount/Cap rematch in 3 weeks!

On "bubble" teams that were left out, I for one was glad that Pat didn't bring discussion as to why Ohio Northern did not get in. I honestly think ONU will be able to move on, and take this crazy year and put it on the back shelf. With one nice building experience that will be in the head of every team that plays MUC in these playoffs( if ONU did it, why can't we?)

They filed an intent to appeal in Oct. and had a month to actually submit their appeal per NCAA rules.  My understanding is that if they chose not to file an appeal, then they would take their punishment for this season.  If they did file the appeal after filing their intent to appeal, then they could still face some sort of punishment for next year.  I guess we will see.

You've got it all wrong. Since Cap is in the state capital, their nickname has its roots in the government of Ohio's crusade to pillage the taxpayers of this dear state. When Ohio is looked at as being holy they'll reconsider the nickname.

Congrats to Cap (and Mount too).  I was wrong.

I heard Cap's new nickname is going to be the Coin Collectors.

Hey Toph, I thought I would cut and paste a couple statements you made throughout the last couple weeks.  I especially like the last one..   Can you say, open mouth insert foot.

1.  I disagree with the idea that Capital should be in the playoffs over other 8-2 teams (especially ONU) simply because they beat the other two 8-2 teams, and I don't think they will get in.

2.  This is about the playoffs and whether or not Capital is going to get in. The point is that a 2 loss team isn't getting in the playoffs from the OAC, especially not when there are two other 2 loss teams.

3.  This isn't about whether or not another team from the OAC should get in (the argument can be made that all three teams should be in), it's whether or not they will get in. None of the two lossers are in. I just like shooting holes in rp's argument.

Very good one with the Coin Collectors. Keep that up and I'll have to find a Swift quote.

I know it was a tough one to swallow to admit you were wrong.  At least that's what I've been told!

jdean & toph,
excellent comebacks - Capital "Tax Collectors" has a nice ring to it.

Mount vs The Mount:
Here's hoping Mount Union has better luck this year against former women's colleges than we did last year.

Congrats CAP on getting in the Field of 32.  Now lets see you down the road!

For anyone interested I've posted a very printer and user friendly playoff bracket in Excel format on my site.

www.MtUnionFootball.com

I very much like the "Road to Salem" Mount Union has but there are still some very difficult matchups along the way, including a very concerning potential second round battle with a very, very good Augustana team.  Still I do have HSCoach much more convinced to keep the weekend of Dec. 17th open.  ;)

Hey Pat why don't you use the NCAA type Bracket layout? I can't get yours to fit on one page,NCAA fits great!!!!

MountFan08

Having looked at the bracket, I honestly believe Mount Union has a great shot at getting to the Stagg Bowl.  I feel they are better than all the teams in the North and if they get to the Semifinals the only team that would give them trouble I think would be Rowan.  Now if they get to the Stagg Bowl, it would be extremely tough based on the fact the West has the Top 3 teams in the country.  Mount vs. Linfield, St. John's or Whitewater would be a very interesting game though. And this team is determined to win another title, especially after the loss to Northern.  Can't wait to see how all of this plays out. Go Raiders!
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.
