I got nothing.  Did we ever determine if the kid from USF actually ever played there?  I can't remember.  I hate that "Transfer" tag.

I saw 3 workouts this summer Shorts looks very good at QB.
LK has tough job ahead.
All the freshmen QB'S I saw so far will not start.

I was reading the USA Today Football preview recently and the D3 review written by our fearless leader Pat Coleman stated that Cecil Shorts III was competing for the QB position. I was wondering if anyone saw him working at QB in the spring drills?

Hey Pat was this an assumption or some inside info?

Did they cut the quotes out? (I haven't seen the final product.) I figured having Kehres on the record would make it clear it was not an assumption.

Looks like incoming MUC freshmen QB Zach Hayward (Blackhawk, PA) had a nice showing in the Stateline All-Star Game against OH.  He was PA's MVP in a winning effort.  The 3 West Branch guys on their way to MUC also participated (Bates, Butcher and Snyder).  That Snyder is a big DT...6'4", 305.

Cecil worked 15 -20 snaps at qb each night of practice during playoff weeks,,question,,do you risk him getting hit running the ball at qb,and then also loose your best wr ????

Put him on the bench, wrap him in cotton batten and save him for a rainy day.

Wideout

Cecil hit the weight room hard his bigger and stronger then last year.
Just don't know if he holds on to the ball too long or pulls it down too quick and runs.
Need to see him in a game situation.

I remember that was the original thought about Greg. That he didn't think about throwing the ball at all, it was all run. THen he showed he had an amazing arm. Maybe that will be the case for Cecil.

My question is, if he plays QB this year, will he still get drafted?

Don't know if he would have been drafted next year even if he did play FT WR...

cbssports has Cecil rated as the #28 WR in the 2011 draft. Projected to go in the 6th or 7th round. They didn't list a 40 time.   :)

Isn't he going to be a Senior this year?  That would make him eligible for the 2010 draft right?

I was thinking the same thing. That is how they listed it. I had a hard time finding him. I was looking in the 2010 info.  ???

If Shorts plays QB in 2009 to the exclusion or near exclusion of his playing WR, then circumstances would have worked very much against his getting drafted in 2010, irrespective of his 40 time or the quality of his play. NFL scouting departments are very quick to downgrade DIII players for their shortcomings - and lack of a lot of 2009 play by Shorts at WR would be generally regarded as a significant shortcoming for his prospect as an NFL WR, and he has no prospect as an NFL QB. Having said this, I have never seen (live, on tape or otherwise) Shorts play or practice, but I believe I know how NFL scouting departments think.

Cecil is on the CBS list. Wouldn't it be safe to assume at the least that he has the tools to be seriously considered by NFL teams for the draft? There have been a few college QB's drafted to play other positions in the NFL. Would playing D3 have that much of an impact?
