Had an interview at Army Tank and Automotive Command in Detroit yesterday and then had to be in Columbus today for National Guard.

So, on the drive between th two, I took a side trip to Ada (my roomate from Capital lives there now, to answer the question... WHY?).  Hadn't seen the new stadium and a lot of the new stuff on campus, so I drove through.  Very nice setting, very nice stadium.

Lots of new student housing going in as well.  Look like suite-style or apartment style dorms.  Pretty good looking campus (hate to admit it)  ;D

Trying to keep up with Mount I guess, which seemingly builds a new building every year.

It's changed monumentally since I was there and that was just 6 years ago.  Since I've moved on ONU has built a new business college, expanded Dukes Hall (A&S), added half a dozen new apartment buildings, built Dial-Roberson Stadium, added Greek buildings near the performing arts center, tore down the old security building, doubled the size of the admissions building, expanded the pharmacy building and added a new hotel for visitors in place of the original campus apartments.  I think I got them all but don't count on it.

Crazy.  I'm going to be back in October for my 10 year hs reunion and it just so happens that is the weekend of Homecoming at ONU so I'll be doubling up on activities for sure.  I can't wait to see my first game at Dial-Roberson.

The Argos fell short to the Saskatchewan Roughriders today but Jamal had 10 carries for 80 yards and a TD as well as 3 catches for 22 yards and a KR for 17.  Besides Kerry Joseph (starting QB) he was the only Argos ball carrier.

I can't get over Greg Micheli winning another award and this one to boot.  In anybody's wildest imagination his college career would be hard to top.  What an outstanding kid who reflects so well on an outstanding program.  He also honors us all involved in D3 sports: athletes, coaches, parents, teachers and fans alike.

I pulled this off Ric's mtunionfootball.com about Greg's latest award:

The Academic All-America® of the Year award, which began in 1987-88, is presented to the most outstanding student-athlete of the year and is chosen from the student-athletes who have been awarded Team Member of the Year honors.  From over 360,000 student-athletes in the nation, just 816 are selected as Academic All-America® Team members each year, 24 are selected as Team Members of the Year and two are named Academic All-America® of the Year.

Congratulations to Greg and everybody in D3 college football.

Greg's career was amazing at every level from the classroom to completion %. And to think we were at one point worried that he might have to play in the 2006 Stagg Bowl for Jorris. (The little known MVP)

Hey Bump the switch from QB to tackle has happened at Mount recently. My kid went to Mount as a QB/TE then discovered the joys of eating and lifting as much as you want and, voila, an o-lineman was created.

A couple(several) years ago,Ohio State had a qb who ended up playing de in the nfl,,He had been an outside lb also in hs,,I can't remember his name,,some days I can't remember mine !! ::)

I have been racking what's left of my brain to come up with who the OSU QB was that played DE in the NFL. I know Rex Kern played safety for the Colts and I think he played LB for Lancaster High School. That is all I could come up with. If you remember the name please post it so that I can sleep tonight.  :D

The joy of eating should not be under estimated !!!  :D

The joy of eating has transformed many of us post football as well.

Truer words were never spoken.

Reading this makes me hungry. I think I am going to go have a cheese steak and a couple cold ones.  ;)

Hey gang!

Day #1 of camp is over, and Jr. had to be one tired pup going to bed last night.  He did a four hour DB clinic in the morning, and then they had two full sessions in the afternoon and evening.  He was moved up to the older group (14/15/16..he is 13), and I am not sure that will work out well for him.  His roommate is a kid from Roanoke, VA (they talked Mount being there every year) who is a flat out STUD!  He will play QB for the freshman team due to being too advanced for his 8th grade peers.  Jr. said they had to do one on one tackling drills together and this kid pretty much lit him up.  I just said...."welcome to the big time son".

Oh...seafood at Philips's.....CHECK!

Poor Mike Jorris the Rodney Dangerfield of Mount QB's. He may not have been the best we ever had but did lead Mount in two undefeated seasons and two Stagg Bowl victories. The second was Gregs coming out party but that was as much out of necessity as anything else since Mike was hurt. I just think Mike deserves a little more credit for his body of work.

'05 He had an efficience rating of 174.69 35 TD's 66.9% completion rate and 249.1 yards per game.

'06 He had an efficience raring of 165.42 22 TD's 59.5% completion rate and 118.9 yards per game. but his stats for the regular season were more like his '05 full season numbers. I am not sure when he got hurt in '06 but you can really see him drop off in the playoffs over his '05 season. Also Nate had become more of the offensive plan after '05.
He also shared more time with Greg in the playoffs in '06.

Joris was a great QB, stood tall, threw hard. Liked him so much I couldn't imagine that his backup would step up and carry the game. That's the crazy thing about Mount football, the guys who step up from the bench and shine. That must be what drives the starters is knowing that there are people as good waiting for your spot.

Jorris might not have been the best QB ever at Mount, but he seemed to be a great fit in '05 with two tremendous deep threats in Casto and Garcon.  He had the big arm needed to try to overthrow two of the fastest WR in recent years.  Although I don't know if he could have led the Raiders to a title in '05 without Kmic blowing up in the postseason.

That was what was so crazy about Nate..he replaced Aaron Robinson in the first playoff game. Aaron had a 1000 yd+ season already under his belt so it could be assumed (bad word) he would have carried the load in the playoffs. The two ended up having the same season and Nate did play in 11 games as did Aaron but Nate's numbers really came in the last 5 games. Nate averaged 7.0 yds per carry and Aaron had 6.9.  Nate had 1219 net yards to Aaron's 1046. You can never have too many RB's that's why I am so glad Mount has 25 ??? new ones coming in this year with the 15 QB's :o and the 50 kickers ??? we should be in good shape. ??? ;D

For those coaches that read the boards, I got to meet my HC and OC's coach when they were in high school this week at camp.  He spoke to our kids and I've been really thinking about one of his statements and think I might make it something I want to incorporate into my thought process.

"I don't wish to be judged over what I accomplish with you during your four years in my program but rather I wish to be judged on what you do with yourselves for the next forty years of your lives because of what you learned in my program."

I thought it was a pretty profound way to look at things and well said.  We do our best to develop these kids into responsible young men and hope they learn the game of football along the way but that statement made me think about my past coaches and how much they care about their players.  I care about W's and L's but if I can get one kid to turn themselves around, it means more than a victory.  That in itself is victory enough if they stay on that path.
