Skunks- Hey, heres hoping that all these summer camps play into something one day. thought after Jud Logan Track and Field camp that at least he is learning from the best: Jud Logan, Larry Kehres are giants in Ohio athletics, Now your traveling to Baltimore for even more intense training. We may follow you there next summer when Kevin has to realize that he is  a safety or nothing at all. I'll look for you on the days that conflict with the kids games.

For those coaches that read the boards, I got to meet my HC and OC's coach when they were in high school this week at camp.  He spoke to our kids and I've been really thinking about one of his statements and think I might make it something I want to incorporate into my thought process.

"I don't wish to be judged over what I accomplish with you during your four years in my program but rather I wish to be judged on what you do with yourselves for the next forty years of your lives because of what you learned in my program."

I thought it was a pretty profound way to look at things and well said.  We do our best to develop these kids into responsible young men and hope they learn the game of football along the way but that statement made me think about my past coaches and how much they care about their players.  I care about W's and L's but if I can get one kid to turn themselves around, it means more than a victory.  That in itself is victory enough if they stay on that path.

Great post, RC. Sounds like you're into a pretty fulfilling program already. One of my favorite quotes was from Lee Owens (ex-Akron head football coach, now with Ashland).  His son was one of my best friends in high school. "Never pass up an opportunity to keep your mouth shut."  Or something to that effect.

My wife and I attended the Mount Union preview this past weekend with my son. I am more convinced that Jeff made the correct decision in selecting a college. I did have one real problem with the 2 days at Mount. I had some trouble buying things in the bookstore. Our high schools team's archrival is the polar bears. The purple polar bears. I found a hat that is gray with script Mount Union logo with a hint of purple but appears more to the silver side. Saw some nice hats with a big "M" on the front but couldn't go that route. I am an OSU grad and I can't bring myself to wear a hat with a big M on the front. I ended up with a gray hat and a white shirt with an acceptable amount of purple wording. I have a feeling I am going to end up with a lot of gray, white and black clothing with purple lettering.

Thanks for clearing that up bh2h. I did a search for Kumerow on the net. It said he is the grandson of Anthony Accardo. If you don't know who that is "forget about it".  :)

Looks like Capital's offense will be improved this fall.  Don't know who will be replacing him, but it has to be an improvement.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have hired Manny Matsakis as their running backs coach, after a stint as a guest coach in training camp this summer. Matsakis will replace Andy Cox who has left the club due to personal reasons.

Coach Matsakis has over 20 years of NCAA coaching experience, primarily as an offensive coordinator and head coach. He has coached at Kansas State, Hofstra, Emporia State, Wyoming, Texas Tech, Texas State and Capital University since entering the collegiate ranks in 1989. Matsakis has been the head football coach at Emporia State University (1995-98) and Texas State (2004) where his offenses amassed over 65 school, 40 conference and 22 NCAA records and were ranked first nationally numerous times. During his career Matsakis has coached current Blue Bombers Brock Ralph (Wyoming) and Glenn January (Texas Tech) at the collegiate level.

Additionally, he also holds the distinction as the founder of American Football Monthly®, the trade journal for the football coaching profession.

"We are extremely pleased to add a coach with the background and caliber of Coach Matsakis. He brings an added dimension that helps to round out our staff," said head coach Mike Kelly.

Wow, kind of late in the game to be finding an OC??

Bump-This is just a hunch, but I'm thinking in 4-5 years you'll have purple jackets, seat cushions, hats, purple everything. You'll learn to hate those Orange P Bears even more than the purple ones.  ;D

Hopefully you'll be able to get some black Stagg Bowl stuff with purple lettering. ::)

It is pretty late to find an OC.

I'm adding this one to the list of "hasty departures" that lead me to believe that something is going on inside the Cap athletic department/ administration.  Since Dr. Fredrickson was replaced as president by Dr. Bowman, Len Reich, Roger Welsh, Jim Collins, Greg Weyrich (the head baseball coach), and now Manny MAtsakis have left, and left with little or no forewarning.

It also serves to upset me about the quality of coverage by the Sports info department.  This isn't reported anywhere in Capital channels...

I know this is a football forum....however, with all of the Cap. departures, I would be certain to keep Damon Goodwin happy as the mens bball coach.  He has been one of the most consistent winners for the Crusaders over the past several years.  There may be a skunk in the woodpile somewhere....

Damon AND especially Dixie...

There was a rumor that Dixie was supposed to become the next AD when Roger retired.  The fact that she wasn't hired and someone from outside was brought in makes me question a few things.

Dixie is Capital's LK and already in the Hall of Fame

Wasn't Matsakis supposed to be the savior on offense when he came back to Capital?

I said it then and I'll hold my ground, it looks goofy as hell to have your OC be a former college kicker, even if he was an alum.  It puts CAP in a bad spot as far as finding a capable OC this late in the off-season but other than a feel good story having a CAP alum calling the offense, I don't think they'll miss him in Bexley.

I guess he got to be a RB coach in the CFL because of what he was able to do with the CAP offensive rushing attack: No less than TWO Capital RB's amassed a mind-boggling 300+ yards on the season.  Those are numbers you build a reputation on!!!

Oh Bump, you are in for a whole new world. You will sport the hay with the purple M. And when everyone talks about Ohio State this or that, you will tell them about Mount. You will become a believer.
It just sucks you up. You will love it as will your son. My son graduated in 06. Goes back every chance he gets. My wife and I make all the games we can.
YOU WILL SEE.
