The Benedictine High School website states that Urbania signed a letter of intent with Findlay.

Sure enough does look like Urbania is head to Findley. Kids do change their minds. This could be a good case and point why D3 SID don't publish commit lists early.

Finally, any idea why Thomas has not figured more  prominently in the Offense?  He is an OAC sprint champion...

Track guy playing football.  He has little vision and balance as well as continually nicked up.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the Raiders typically have a little depth at the running back position (although Im not positive)

I agree with further clarification that they typically have little quality depth capable contributing at the varsity level.  Numbers aren't a problem at RB.  Viable varsity starting level RB's are much tougher to find than WR or O-line.

Terrance will get his opportunity to carry the ball, Coach Kehres is a very loyal person and has respect for players that work hard to regain the ability they had stripped of them due to injury.

If Morring can stay healthy this year, he's going to be a beast.  He won't break many 50 yards runs, but there will be a ton of 5-10 yard carries.

A scout's device in arriving at an approximate electronic 40 time out of an actual hand-held 40 time is to add .25 seconds to the actual hand-held time.

I could believe a 4.45 hand held time. It would convert to 4.65 to 4.70. You see way to many very low 40 times turn into 4.6 to 4.7 when timed properly.

IMO 40 times are overvalued. It is a good indication of potential but like the above poster commented it doesn't necessarily translate to football speed. Good technique and vision can in most cases compensate for a slower 40 time.

The real question here is... with a 3.0 GPA, academics are obviously important to the kid.  Why is he going to Urbana?  Am I missing something??

Good times and other "numbers" alone can't tell you that a prospect can play at the next level, but bad numbers often can tell you that he can't.

The University of Findlay is located in Findlay, OH (Northwest OH).  It is a Div. II school and a member of the same conference (GLAAC) as Ashland University, Grand Valley State, etc.  Their head coach is Jon Wauford, former player at Miami University.   Several years ago, they won some national championships at the NAIA level.  Have not experienced the same success since moving to Div. II a few years ago.........I'm guessing they had a scholarship open up late, and Mr. Urbania was next on their list.

Side bar comment.........Findlay used to be a college.  When making the decision to move to "university status", they made sure it was called the University of Findlay as opposed to Findlay University, which would have looked great on a ballcap ("FU")   :)

Another dumb decision....just think of the money they would be making in merchandise sales. The tuition would be free! ;D

Is this the same John Wauford who coached defense at Miami University and decked the fan after the game at Marshall???

Food for thought...

Ben Johnson, who is believed to have run 40 yards faster than any human in history. Johnson is best known for injecting copious amounts of steroids and winning the 100 meters at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul in 9.79 seconds, only to have his gold medal and world record stripped after failing a post-race drug test.

Timing officials have since broken down that famed race into 10-meter increments, and Johnson was so preposterously fast that he went through 50 meters in 5.52 seconds and 60 meters in 6.37 – both under the current world records at those distances. He went through 40 yar ds that day in 4.38 seconds.

Sorry if I seem a little skeptical on any sub 4.5 40 time. Have heard way to many sub 4.4 40’s coming out of so called summer camps at a D1 University in Akron. Have a hard time believing the system was set up correctly or the thing was calibrated properly

I've seen this same thing referenced before when people question 40 times, saying "it's impossible for anyone to run faster than that."

It's a crock of $h*t, is what it is.  Apples and oranges.

First, there is a BIG differences in the way races are run because of distance.  Track coaches will tell you that even in a race as short as the 100m, there are still three distinct phases- the start, the "run-up," and then "top-end speed."  (Help me out here 70's).  The start is more than just coming out of the blocks, it's getting from there into a running position, and usually takes about 10-15m.  In the run-up, sprinters settle in- get their arms going and their stride into rhythm, usually another 30m or so.  THen, finally, they get to their top-end speed at about the halfway mark.  Watch an olympic or elite level race closely and you will see this.  THe great starters get out first, then you see them all settle in, and then you see all the passing in the last half of the race.  (I would argue there is a fourth phase as well- the finish, where guys like Usain Bolt slow down and showboat or guys who have a huge lead naturally slow as well).

The 40 breaks out the same way, but becuase of distance, it has to be done MUCH sooner in the "race."  You have to train to get to your top end speed much quicker.

Second, in track, the watch starts on the gun and in a 40 time on the athlete's motion.  Even the best starters have a reaction time around .1 seconds.  SO take that off of Ben Johnson's time and you are looking in the 4.2's

Here is some more info I dug up:
Usain Bolt's legal 9.69 (9.55 without slowing) 100m time (40 yards of it) blows it away. Usain Bolt's 40 yard during his 100m record was a 4.09 or 4.02.

At the 2001 World Championship 100m final in Edmonton, Maurice Greene covered 30m in 3.75 seconds and 40m in 4.64 seconds, extrapolating his 40 yard (36.576m) time at about 4.24 seconds.

These 2 times and races include reaction time, anywhere from 0.100 to 0.150 seconds

So, it is possible for a college kid to run faster than Ben Johnson, and it is possible for those 4.4's and 4.3's to be legit.
