Good luck, RC.......remember, that they may act like they want a "friend", but they really need a role model.  And, especially, someone who will inspire them to improve and develop a passion for learning.

And, MOST administrators are not the "anti-Christ".......

Tomorrow (Monday) marks my first day as a teacher.  I've been working hard all summer and anticipating this day for a long time.  I've worked many "jobs" in my time but at 28, I'm glad I've finally started a "career".

Coincidentally we have equipment check-out and our first official practice Monday as well.  I'm anxious to see how many new faces will be there after all these kids talked to each other about how amazing their camp experience was.

From my wifes experience that would be some of the parents.

reality check

School itself was a breeze.  For the first day at a brand new high school we had very few major issues.  Some problems with the bell schedule and a couple other schedule things but all in all no complaints.

Now football was a challenge!  We were pulled into an emergency debrief by the administration when the kids were told to report to the weight room.  I hauled over to the locker rooms as quickly as I could and the equipment distribution was all out of whack.  66 kids and almost three hours later everyone had their gear.  I think we have about 10 more for sure but 66-76 is a good number considering we're only talking about 9th and 10th graders at this high school this year.

Day one.  DONE.  (Only 179 more???)

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

Just finished my first full year as a FT teacher at 37 years old.  One thing I learned is that EVERYONE (Teachers, Students, Admin) get crazy in December and May.  Don't take anything personally during those months.  Just keep a thick skin and after Holiday and Summer Breaks, people tend to return to normal.

Also, my wife taught me one of the most important rules in education:
Ask for Forgiveness, not Permission.  Coming from the business world where we had meetings upon meetings to decide what we were going to do is so much different from Education.  As long as your intentions are true, and you do your best to be successful, then they will appreciate your work.  But, if you ask permission first, they really don't have the time to evaluate your request and most often just say NO because they don't want to spend the time working through the request.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The Benedictine High School website states that Urbania signed a letter of intent with Findlay.

Sure enough does look like Urbania is head to Findley. Kids do change their minds. This could be a good case and point why D3 SID don't publish commit lists early.

My "source" says he decided against his Findlay scholarship and will be attending Mount.

A man wise beyond his years! 8)

Findlay picked in their coaches pole to finish 9th according to OCF posting! Another good reason for his decision to attend Mount :o.

Small but Slow

Kirasdad and I both work in the same rather large district which is fairly top heavy on the administrative end.  District administrators typically strive for uniformity among all 12 high schools and 15 middle schools in the county.  The school administrators are stuck between satisfying the needs of their community and staff and pleasing district.  Since most school administrators I've dealt with are generally most concerned with career advancement their decisions usually require phone calls, emails, and memos from district supervisors.  As a middle school AD I've finally learned to contact district myself and get their approval before going to my administration.  Pricipals are really in thankless positions.  The less decisions they have to make the better for them and easier for me.

All schools and districts are unique.  Its a matter of learning to manipulate the system to do thingd the way you want them done.

Found this on youtube. LK doing a public service announcment for the Jason Foundation. Great organization designed to help prevent this senseless tragedy. ;)
