I wanted you all to know that I'm the one who wrote that piece. I'm glad that, for the most part, you seem to realize that I was not making a personal attack on either school. Apparently, on the E8 boards, I'm arrogant and annoying.

As I pointed out in the piece, I think both MUC and UW-W deserve their success. It was more just a question of general parity seeming to disappear in D-III and wondering, as someone pointed out, if that's a good thing long-term.

I hope no-one on this board was offended by the piece

No offense taken here.  No apology needed.

I thought i'll cater your guys ego a bit (as well as mine too)  ;D

I'm sure there thousands of fans out there who agree with this guy.....

How many people quit going to NFL games during the Dolphins streak? Or because New England was walking away with everything. You could make the same argument in alot of HS football conferences but all the teams still show up. It can't and won't last forever, but it's just waiting for a MHB or someone else to manup and get to the Stagg. A lot of schools like, lets say Wooster, need to up their level of play and stop backing away from a good fight.  If we keep playing SJF, they'll have their day sooner or later. Let's hope later. (:>)

No offense at all to your article.  There are many truths.

What is most frustrating is with the success Mount has had over the past two + decades the fan base has become complacent. They should pack (a relative term) the stadium for every home game. Plus they usually have four playoff games a year which should lead to and attendance total that leads D3. St John's has held that honor for years. It has been built on the tradition of excellence and winning. Their fans  have not become tired of this success. Same values you see at Mount but our fans aren't in concert with it. St. John's is located out in the middle of (sorry) nowhere and pack an average of 8000 for every home game.

I have it ....they need to have giveaways in the program.  "Turn to page 23 in your Raider Game Day Program and if you see a stamp that says "Go Raiders" You have won a Big Burger and chili  dinner package for four at the "The Hood" It seems to work for that school in MN previosly mentioned. ???

I was most offended by your reference "Please disregard the photo. Finding one of a Division III football team is next to impossible but apparently, you need a photo in every piece."

You have found this site as you have over 500 posts and D3 Football has a stable of photographers......That was a little lame IMHO. :o
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

St. John's games don't have to compete with the Buckeyes.  Move all of the Raider home games to Saturday night and you'd see a large increase in attendance.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I see a few things that contribute to the lack of "packing" the stadium every Saturday:

1.  The expectation of a win, and a blowout every week.  To many Mount fans, football has become a 1 game season with the Stagg Bowl.  Many students and fans do not attend simply because they already know that it will not be a close game.

2.  Lack of a consistant rival/annual big game.  Recently, there hasnt been any OAC team that consistantly pushes Mount.  There was JCU for a while, then BW, ONU had the upset but hasn't been a threat since, Capital had the six years of Rocky, and now Otterbein is the supposed team.

3.  OSU factor.  I know that many students do not go to Mount games if the Buckeyes are playing at the same time.  They would rather watch the OSU game than go see a "gauranteed" MUC victory.  This is especially seen during the OSU-UM game which is generally the first round playoff date, I believe.  I don't know if this goes for all fans, but I definitely saw this during my years at MUC

That can be said for most DIII schools across the board though (execpt St. Johns). more people rather stay home and watch the Badgers than go to a UWW game (or any WAIC game) at noon on saturday in Wisconsin.

If you mean the Liberty League Board in the East Region, I have to disagree.  I really like the wide range of topics there.  They're a bunch of good dudes over there.  I'm in the Liberty League Fantasy Football for this year.

If you didn't mean that LLPP, then my apologies.

I worked in the pressbox while in school and even I would have rather been at home watching a game on TV.  And I was broke so I needed the $.  Although it was funny come playoff time because I had to be there at 10am so I got to hear all the opposition players/asst coaches mouth off about how MUC hadn't seen a team like them before they had even put their pads on.

p.s. From the games I've been to recently it seems that there are actually more students going than when I was there.  Literally when I was in school there were probably more baseball players working in the stadium than other students watching.

I disagree. Arrogant people and people who take themselves too seriously are taken to task over on LL.  A sense of humor and irreverence is required.  The posters are quite knowledgeable on a wide array of subjects, including football.  A different flavor from other boards here on D3.  Consider it the mancave of d3football post patterns. Very similar to bar talk.

Another factor is that most folks in Stark and surrounding counties would rather spend their football dollars on their local high school team.  I've lost count of how many times I've been told "...a good Federal League team could beat any DIII college."  If Canton McKinley or Massillon enjoyed the success Mount has they would pack in 25,000 for every game, regardless of how predictable the outcome.

I wonder if any of the increase in student attendance coincides with the increase in student population.  It's been a while since I saw a number...what's the enrollment these days?  I was there a few years after Mount started increasing enrollment and there were times I felt I was about the only student at the game.  My last game in Alliance was the end of the first streak.
